<Start SIm>
Sarissa's shift ended and she changed into a form fitting short and Yoga pants. It left little to the imagination. She didn't care. At 76 years old, if someone wanted an eyeful, she wasn't that interested as long as it wasn't obvious or leering. Walking down the the gym, she walked in and started in the open area to limber up.
Dom had just completed his stretches as he walked over to the running machine, he placed his towel on the handle bar of the futuristic looking machine. Doctor's said this new machine was more advanced than anything they had created before. The device itself was a standard running machine but the things it could monitor or adjust to your body's particular needs was amazing. It was a multi functional device that was created to allow aliens of other races a chance for a work session.
Dom quickly set the perimeters of the device to do a slow jog, nothing big just a two jog. He prepared to start the program, when he could tell that the background music in the gym was loud and very distracting. The sound was not really that appealing to him. But who was he to complain, he came prepared he was about to putting on listening device when he noticed her. Dom gulped for air. The outfit she wore, was very appealing.
Dom tried not to stare, he quickly looked down at his machine and began the program. He needed to focus on getting a decent workout. He started to jog, he did not put on his headset. He started to run, the program beeped at him, it was telling him he was going to fast, so he increased the level to a slow run.
Sarissa was sore after a long night of surgery and rounds of patients. Limbering up she went into various poses to attempt working out the kinks in her muscles. She wasn't sure she could do it all by herself, but made the attempt. As she stretched, she noticed the new arrival catching an eyeful. Innocent contortions that for some reason had an effect on many members of the humanoid species she encountered over the years.
Dom's heart started to beat a little fast, but not due to the increase in the workout. He needed to get his emotion in check. This was not the first woman or Vulcan he had seen in a tight outfit. Granted it was the first woman he had seen that was as lovely as her. Dom did his best to focus on the course the he programmed. The place was a little faster than he wanted to start out, but he needed to release some of this tension he felt. The tension of lust, she was a married attractive woman and he was a professional. He needed to act like it.
Dom had worked out with other ladies with decent to amazing looking bodies, why was Sarissa causing these type of emotions. He needed to get his emotions in check and fast. Dom was disappointed in himself. He was a professional and he was not acting like, well in his mind he felt that way.
Sarissa was not achieving the deep tissue stretch she needed for her legs and back. She called out "Mister Martinez. Would you assist me with some therapy?"
Dom was in the middle of his run. He looked at Sarissa when she called for him. "give me a second Doctor, I need to slow down gradually" suggested Dom as it did not take him long at all to slow down his pace, he barely had a chance to run. Dom was trying to keep his composure. He grabbed his towel, threw it over his shoulder and walked over to the large mat that Sarissa was standing on.
"Are you familiar with assisted stretching? I am having trouble with my hamstrings and back muscles if you would help, it would be appreciated."
"Vaguely remember, but I am quick study" said Dom in a calm voice, deep down he was wondering was this a good idea, did he want to touch Sarissa, yes, but his thoughts were more lustful than he wanted to admit to himself. He waited for Sarissa's cue.
Sarissa went down on the mat, she crossed her legs in front of her and reached her arms out to him. "I will need to be flexible while you apply gentle pressure trying to reach the crunch position of a situp, Once there gingerly rock a few inches slowly to help overstretch the back."
"Understood" said Dom as he felt very nervous as he walked closer to her, which for two reasons was making him a little uncomfortable, first being, he did not like to be close to others, the second reason, she was very attractive. In the humble opinion of Dom, the doctor seemed to be relaxed and already loosened up, but he was no doctor, so his opinion did not matter that much. Dom watched as Sarissa began to do a nice slow dragged out stretch position, the way her body moved was smooth and elegant and damn right sexy. Dom tried to focus on non sexual things to keep his mind focus. Sarissa was not making the situation easy. Dom smoothly placed his hands on her body and slowly moved his way to the position he needed to be in. He prepared to grab her rists to maintain a proper control as he gently applied force on her to get her lower back to stretch, the two of them where a little closer that Dom would have ever imagined and he did his best to be very professional.
As he pulled her up, she remained loose, otherwise her back would not loosen. When it was at the apex she called out, "Stop there and slowly rock by pulling left and right, releasing and adding pressure alternatively to each side. After a few minutes she felt the muscles start to untighten. "Release me down slowly please." After he did so, she moved into a modified position with her legs in front of her bent and the soles of her feet touching. "Now I need to so apply gentle pressure on my knees for a twenty count. It would better for you to kneel behind me to do so. If the closeness bothers you, we can stop."
The closeness bothered him, oh yes it did. His mind was screaming for him to stop but his emotions were telling him to keep going. There was a struggling in his mind, and he was not sure who was winning. Beyond all of that, a fellow shipmate needed his help and he was not going to let her down. He slowly bent down into the position she asked. They were practically touching each other not in a physical sexual way, more of a physical platonic contact way. Dom assumed for Sarissa this was simply a shipmate helping her out, for Dom it was a struggle against his morality and his personal character. People had been telling him for years to loosen up and open up, but even he to admit, he doubt they meant in this way.Dom knew it was wrong and right all at the same moment. Dom was going to follow her lead.
"Now release slowly. One more if you don't object" Sarissa swing her legs straight out in front of her. "The same way you pressed on my knees, apply the same pressure to push me forward gently."
The two bodies were close, Dom could smell the gentle aroma coming off Sarissa, they were that close. This was first time in a long time that he been physically close to another person. He found his mind wondering a little, not on Sarissa but on Sarah, then on both of them. Was this some sort of mental call out from the sub conscious. Dom had released her slowly as she asked and was setting himself up for the new move she asked to be placed in. Dom had done as she asked, he applied force and drew in closer to her, as anticipated she resisted to get the desired stretched she needed. Dom was almost face to face with Sarissa, he tried to hide the fact that his mind was in conflict. He was doing his best to be a good gym partner.
The more uncomfortable he made himself, the clearer things seemed to get for Sarissa. Yes she was an attractive woman, but it was being coming clearer that Dom still had some unresolved issues with Sarah his ex, who was now married and expecting a child, a woman he let go over 7 years ago. And the fact he was working out with a vulcan, made him wonder, was he going through a human version of pon farr?
'Thank you for your assistance Mister Martinez. I....would be remiss in saying that you look....stressed. Is there some relief I can provide?" Sarissa ask standing in front of him.
Dom's mind was not clear, his emotions are out of whack, and he seemed to be lost. Dom needed focus and it appeared in a strange way that he was getting a little of that clarity. Dom wondered if Sarissa was using some sort of telepathy form he was not aware to sooth his erratic behavior? At first he was worried about keeping his lustful feelings in line, but it seemed like he was barely able too and it seemed to him that his mind was opening up more. Dom wanted theses emotions, these lustful thoughts out of his mind. He had spent the past seven years getting himself this far, he could not afford to allow a lapse in concentration or judgment. Despite the inanimateness of the stretches, they were arousing him, Sarissa was an attractive lady, but he was trying and hoping to open up more on the fact, that the stretches were helping him see the piece of the puzzle in his mind that had been eluding him, keeping his mind closed off to him. He wanted to tell her, how much this meant to him. But he needed to think of a cleaver way to respond. "My pleasure Doctor" said Dom as he chickened out on telling her, how much this has opened his eyes and benefited him as well.
She wandered over to the running station and started her own jog.
Dom was some what loose, well mentally but in the physical sense, he was very tense. But he could not allow himself to come out and ask for assistance. Damn his arrogant persona. Sarissa was offering to assist him, and in typical fashion, Dom was trying to be very conservative. Normally his emotions were under control, but it was becoming clear to him that his sister mentioning her name back on the DFS Essex, stirred up old feelings that he is still not ready to address. Dom watched as Sarissa got up, he wanted to call out to her, but he did not. Instead he went over to the machine he was on previously and resumed his run, he did manage to slow down the machine to a jogging pace. (edited)
Sarissa wanted to say it was normal for humans to be overly aroused. She had seen it time and again in her practice. The Vulcan way prevented her from speaking of it if he wouldn't.
Dom started to run again, he was hoping to spark up the clarity that Sarissa, had manage to pull out of him. He was hoping that it was not a telepathic connection thing. He hoped that Sarissa did not sense his attraction to her, or that he was thinking about a woman who could possibly been his soul mate, that he allowed to leave her. Dom was confused, he needed clarity. He began to slowly run. Hoping to find it. But his mind seemed to have closed up on him. All he could think about was the stretching techniques. And the few moments of clarity that he appeared to have.
Several minutes later, her heart rate was sufficiently elevated that she started on circuit training. Today was chest and arm day. She moved to bench, selecting 20kg dumbbells.
It was becoming clear to him that running was not loosing up his locked emotional state of being. He debated on asking her about the vulcan telepathy, she was here to work out, not to be his therapist. And he was not sure, if he needed therapy or a good kick in the ass and someone to tell him to snap out of it and get his head out of his ass and to get his own command. Dom wanted to someday to command a ship of his own. He was on the right track, a lonely track, but in his mind the right track. Dom knew that doing what he considered to be intimate stretches with a woman he barely knew, to be wrong. But maybe it was not, maybe it was theraputic. Dom knew Sarissa was a doctor and he wanted to ask her, but at the same time, they did not have that type of doctor/patient relationship. He wanted to open up, but typically Dom kept everyone at an arms length.
Dom was still on the machine he still had a few minutes left on the machine. He debated on what to work out to next, part of him thought maybe an upper body workout would be a good thing. He needed to feel the burn or so he thought. He wanted his emotions in check, maybe he could force himself to break his comfort zone and open up. He choose a bench not to far away from Sarissa's and grabbed two dumb bells. He went with 25 pounds, he wanted to start off with a good tone work out, he was not a body builder, more like a body toner.
Dom sat down, had both feet planted and leaned at angle that kept his back in a perfect alignment. He slowly started to lift the bells. His body was a little warm, thanks to the slow jog from earlier. He felt his body go through the emotion of lifting the weight. His thoughts still seemed out of alignment, he continued to struggle with just coming out and telling her that he needed help from his doctor. But if he did that, he felt that it would undermined this persona he tried to portray to others, plus they were not alone in the gym. He did not want to open up to strangers, people he really did not know.
Moving back to wrist curls, Sarissa was debating whether to say something. Vulcans were the masters at not revealing body language. Dom's was practically screaming at her. Still the unwritten code prevented her from speaking.
Dom re-positioned himself on the bench, he was facing sideways to Sarissa. He needed the room to preform the next exercise. He grabbed the dumb bells and allowed his arms to dead hang at his side and off the bench. He brought his arms from his side straight up to a 90 degree angle, and then back down again. He could feel the burn in his arms after a few sessions of his arm going through this form of workout.
It was clear to Sarissa that the man was in obvious distress. If he wasn't going to open up, she wasn't going to force him. Humans like their own personal prisons too much sometimes she thought. Moving to her last station she started doing crunches and side crunches
After a few sessions of this workout, Dom switched up from going from his hip straight up, to lifting the weights straight in front of his chest. He did this for a few more rounds. Dom continued to struggle, he began to think to himself, he was being foolish. Sarissa had obviously gotten him to open up even if it was accidently, he felt that he needed more clarity, but first he needed to understand why, he decided to break his emotional barriers and take a chance. He stood up and placed the weights back on rack and walked over to Sarissa. He was hovering over her. "do you need a partner" asked Dom, typically when a person does crunches they have some one hold down there ankles.
"I would not object Mister Martinez." Sarissa replied.
Before Dom placed his hands on her ankles, he knelt down by her. "Doctor I have a question for you" said Dom as he knelt down and prepared to grab her ankles. This was the moment of truth, would Dom open up or chicken out. He needed to get past his discomforts and open up. (edited)
Dom had open Pandora's box well in his mind he had. He was taking a risk, luckily doctors are known for being impartial and unemotional so this could be n his benefit. He waited for Sarissa to respond, in his mind was an eternity, but in reality only a brief moment. tugar
Sarissa sat up. "I was wondering how long you would take or if you just wanted to be stressed."
Dom was not sure how to respond to her response, it was very bold and to the point, but it was also very honest. "I was hoping you could tell me how strong a Vulcan telepathic connection can be, I have seen others typically touch on the head to make a connections, is it possible to have a connection when working out" asked Dom, as he really thought to himself that he probably took the conversation in a direction she was not expecting to go.
Dom had made contact with her body, just not on frontal lobes of the human head. He wondered was it possible with any all contact from one body to another. He wished he had paid better attention to Vulcan biology in school. tugar
"It's...possible, but unlikely. Vulcans are usually touch telepaths. Connections have been known to travel some distance but that is usually initiated by the telepath and requires great concentration and talent. I am curious as to your inquiry. "
"honestly I am not sure how to process what is going on" said Dom, as he was not sure where to began.
"I feel my mental abilities are breaking down, I feel conflicted and for a brief moment when we were doing those exercises I felt a sudden rush of clarity" said Dom, as he realized he probably sounded like he did not make sense. In his mind it made perfect sense, he debated on clarifying. He waited to see what Sarissa said, or if she followed his line of thinking.
"I think you have a very active imagination Mister Martinez. Can I inquire as to the nature of your discord?" (edited)
Dom listened to what Sarissa said, the he went on to say "I have dedicated the past seven years to my career and staying on track, in my own way, I kept my emotions in check, I placed work ahead of personal life, I made choices that have not been easy for me" said Dom. Then he thought, 'here we go' as he went on "Up, until I took this assignment, my life seemed perfect, but that changed four days ago, I feel lost, out of place" suggested Dom.
"There are Vulcan exercises that can be taught to help with clarity and focus. Though my first inclination is to discover what is the calamitous event changing your mind.?"
"working out with you, for a moment seem to bring me focus, I had not realized why I was feeling lost, to be honest I am not sure if I am not still lost" said Dom as he sat next to her. He realized he was peddling around her question. He took a breath and said, "its over an old love, I think, I have not dated, or seen anyone since we broke up 7 years ago" suggested Dom.
"She was on the Essex and I hid from her" flat out said Dom. He paused, he finally admitted it.
"It is more likely that something in your senses caused by my proximity was the trigger for your moment of insight. A smell, the feel of something. Did you work out with her often?"
"And your obvious guilt at the missed opportunity, though the outcome was in flux."
"yes, all of the time, a lot like we were doing tonight" said Dom, as he blocked that thought from his mind.
Dom avoided the second part of Sarissa's response. He heard it but he was still in shock that he admitted he hid from her. Like a coward he hid from her.
"I would point out the Essex is still in orbit with us....though not for much longer." Sarissa offered.
Dom had forgotten the workout sessions between Sarah and him were pretty intense and intimate and very personal. "It's not that simple" suggested Dom, they both made choices, they moved on. She was now married and having a child or had a child, he was not really sure. That part was a little sketchy. Mainly because Dom was trying not to keep tabs on his ex.
"It rarely is." Sarissa pointed out. "Vulcans have...unforeseen complications in relationships as well. Children from the result of....emotional and physical stress. Logic would dictate that ignoring it would likely not make it better. Humans have a term for it....closure."
The only information he had came from his sister. He did not want to probe into the matter to deeply. They both had made choices in life. Dom wondered for this brief moment, did he make the right one? It really did not matter, she was no longer available and years have gone by. He thought to himself that term, closure, he thought he had it. However it was clear to him that there was no closure. He hated this feeling, he knew that Sarissa was right. "it's been seven years, I have not even said hi to her in all of this time, I do not know if I have it in me to reach out to her, what would I say" asked Dom, he knew deep down what he had to say, but maybe he just needed his doctor to flat out just say it.
"You say what is on your mind. Otherwise, forget about the relationship and move on." Sarissa said. "Agonizing over it will produce no results. Unless the desire result is a stomach ulcer."
"sounds more promising than this feeling, how do you stop these feelings how do you control these feelings" asked Dom, he was impressed they could do it.
"I thought I learned how too, but its clear to me now I did not" said Dom, with an annoyed look on his face.
Dom realized he was talking in circles, Sarissa told him what he needed to do. Now he needed to work it out on his own.
"You know what you need to do. If you were a less intelligent, it is not logical for you to be the new CFO. Sometimes we need others to point out what we already know to be true."
"your right, I will adsorb all of this in, I'll think of something, it's clear to me that I can not function in this manner" pointed out Dom. As he went on to ask, "still need a work out partner" said Dom with a smile, first time in a while he did, first time since he met Sarissa that he did not drool over her sure beauty.
"That would be acceptable." Sarissa said. "If I am not around, sometimes I am in the sauna room."
"I meant tonight, but I will take but I be happy to be your workout buddy as well" said Dom as he got in the position to hold her ankles to help her with her crunches. Dom knew this was new ground for him. Having full time workout buddy would mean having a friend, something that Dom had been avoiding for the past seven years. It was clear having Sarissa around was beneficial to them both.
Sarissa leaned back and once she felt Dom holding her ankles she starting her abdomen workout in earnest.
Dom felt more at ease at this moment, than he had in the past four days. He was grateful for her assistance, Sarissa had helped him, when he needed it most. The two of them continued to workout together, as the scene starts to fade.

Chat Sim Log – June 13th 2017 – June 15th 2017 Aidan Thornton Yuka Layton Ari Mizriki Sakura Carain August 14th 4566; Late Afternoon/Early Evening DFS Lavie – XO’s Office, Captain’s Office
<START SIM> After the talk with Koto was over Sakura and Aidan left his quarters. Ari while not done with her investigation had found enough information to easily support a conduct unbecoming charge and dereliction of duty charge. She had messaged Aidan via VX and asked him when a good time to meet would be. "That went much better than I expected." Sakura thought; usually in her previous job with IA situations like this resulted in armed officers dragging someone off; he was pretty receptive and that much was good; so no one needed to seal him in medical for psych eval; yet. (edited) Aidan responded that he would be in his office shortly, she could come in a minute or two. Talking to Sakura, he said, "If you have the time, let's go back to my office. We might have more answers there." "Sure Major; I do think that this went better than it should have... In some IA cases I worked people in these situations were... Less than receptive... It is why they had us armed and usually sent backup... People don't take being told they fucked up well..." She said as she recalled some of her previous assignments for internal affairs gathering information for JAG investigations and detaining people whom were to be detained pending investigation and trial. (She was one of those fun marshal type folks that pick you up when JAG summons you... so of course people never reacted well; Hi I am from Starfleet Security's Office of Internal Affairs... If you would please come with me so JAG can hogtie you)
"While I agree with your assessment, what are the success ratios? Plus the bigger question. My concern of how do we help him help himself? " (edited) "It is like I said to him; he should have come to us... now the best thing we can do is get him the help he needs and hope the person presiding over his case sees he has made progress by that point so they don't just dishonorably discharge him out... At the least a formal reprimand though a demotion is more likely in this case; at worst... discharge with prison or cryoprison time. I am just glad I never worked on the side that actually administers punishment... That must be a shit job; knowing you are throwing your comrades under the bus... How could someone in JAG live with that... I mean if you are dealing with a scumbag that is one thing but an officer who has done their job well for awhile and just messed up... As for success... I didn't work on the side of things that handled all that; once we handed them over and completed our investigation work it was out of our hands." (edited) "As or how we help him... I think he needs therapy" "What a mess. In addition to all the other crap we have to deal with....let's get this over with. He walked through the office doors, straight to the replicator. Do you want anything? Coffee, large, with cream." "I'll take what you get... I agree... From when I met him at that school I knew he had issues... I just didn't know he was as screwed up... if not more... than I am... At least in my case I can control myself... Well mostly..." She said taking a seat. "As for his mention of past memories seeing things here. PTSD is a thing for anyone in this line of work... YOu either deal with it... or wash out..." "It is a sad statement but it is true." He handed Sakura her beverage. He closed his eyes and took a sip of it. "PTSD and I are old friends. Like you said, you learn to deal with it, or you don't as in Koto's case. The Academy must be getting sloppy, or desperate." "I watched my best friend killed right in front of me; I am sure you have similar experiences being in the marines... Since I switched to AMC though; mech piloting is about as evil as being a marine; first on the line and with our missions usually the only ones on the line unless its war time; watching your buddy get blown up by enemy artillery or anti spacecraft weapons... Fun stuff..." She joked. "I dont know what people think signing up for this branch is; you wanna go be a hero and explore the universe join Starfleet... Don't join the marines or Delta Force..." The door soon chimed once Sakura finished and took her drink. "I agree,,,,but watching comets go by and deep space planetary surveys...no. Enter!." Aidan said. Ari walks in as Sakura glances over. Ari salutes. "I have additional information to report Major sir." Ari replied Aidan returns the salute. "I thought that might be the case. What did you find?" Ari lowers the salute and looks over at Sakura sort of inquiring if she is okay. "She probably has higher clearance that both of us combined. Continue please." Aidan offered. Ari nodded taking a seat next to Sakura. "So between his collapsing on the ground and being admitted to medical after only like three hours of sleep in three weeks, disregarding protocols related to security, complete lack of bridge duty... Like ever... Not to mention... Pretty much everything that Warrant Officer reported to you.... He most definitely has issues... Something I did find though that was interesting... He grew up on a world that the TD was at war with; the colony was basically destroyed and he was taken in by a family and abused by them... beaten that sort of thing until some old man went and saved him, tried to teach him how ot be normal and then sent him off to Marsia Academy where he was until he joined Delta Force. He was trained at Memorial Center training Facilities and all of his instructors gave him passing marks... and when I say passing marks I literally mean Cs on everything.... Almost like he was actually trying to just be middle of the bench. Someone found that quite odd and then assigned him here; or rather to the Lavie when it was commanded by Arisa Norinette... You know one of the President's Aides... Seems like he only ended up with a Chief post because of his odd academic scores and his knowing the President and her people... Don't know if they were directly involved but yeah..." Ari finishes. Sakura then says "Hukari wouldn't just hand some mentally unstable kid a position in war like she and I were forced into... It was likely some Admiral trying to win favors by making our friends high positions from the get go.... Did I mention I hate the Admiralty..." (TD; Terran Dominion... basically the government prior to Hukari taking over from the militaristic war-crazed government) "So...we have little choice but to proceed with the court martial. We can't just sweep this under the rug and pretend it never happened. Too much has occurred. Fine. Next steps. Sakura you are probably more familiar with this than I am at this point. Our next step besides getting that loitering counselor off his ass." Aidan responded. "File a case report for an official Board of inquiry." "I already have that document prepared; I figured it would need filed... The protocol and rules in this place are so interesting...." Ari replied. "Next the CO would need to be involved and be the one to submit the initial findings... After that it is either assigned to IA for further investigation or to JAG for action; if there is not a JAG officer then the Board of inquiry would be conducted by the Commanding Officer. All Boards require two command level officers and an impartial representative. Following that if Court-martial is recommended then the CO would ever preside over that or a JAG Magistrate would be assigned to oversee the Trial." "Basically the diffeence is the Board reviews the findings and recommends action for serious crimes and cases. Courtmartial issues punishment.1" "So one even sees if a crime occurred... THen recommends a trial or not" Ari sets down a padd which has all her findings pushing it over to Aidan. "Ok....let's get the ball rolling. No use in wasting time. Meanwhile let's get him better where we can. Full medical workup AND psyche review. Once you get the report filled out let me know and I will inform the Captain. Damned unpleasantness." Aidan sighed and drank more coffee. Ari nods then heads out. She gets to her workstation and files the form. It was pretty simple to submit."Now the point where everything starts getting recorded... Official Inquires and all... Hopefully this all gets done in short order... Also Captain Layton would need to be informed at this point as well. Also who was that?" Sakura asked. "One of the two people we picked up from the Merc ships. Erin "Ari" Mizriki. She's some kind of reporter and we have her SO who is a pilot, Brandon somethingorother.. They've been put through training. Drafted as it were." "That explains the provisional ensign..." Sakura wanted to comment on her cuteness but figured that would be inappropriate. "I'll tell the Captain. That'll be another joyful moment we can share." Aidan offered dripping with sarcasm. She grins "Don't worry... I'll protect you from your SO if she wants to kill you..." (edited) "The opposite reaction is the one I am worried about. You know her, differently that I do. She's tougher than she was when we first met and yet....I always worry about her. Natural reaction for me I suppose." "Actually I've only talked to her a couple times.... Misuki kept telling me that Lumi adores the absolute socks off of her... It sounds sort of cute the way Misu described it. It does sound a little strange though that Misuki considers herself friends witht he girl who use to be the ship... Even when she was the shi... Being friends with a starship... " "I didn't know here before that. I'd say she's....developing her own distinctiveness. Lumi is dating for example. I helped create a boyfriend for her." Aidan offered, waiting for the choke or laugh. (edited) "I'd be interested but that would just get weird in a bad way since I am basically the one who exposed her to sex... oh... You---" She sets her coffee down. "You helped her create a boyfriend..." She said that last part in a sort of shocked voice "I need to hang around you and the CO more often..." She chuckles
"Don't get me started. I had to straighten out, pun intended, Yuka. I don't share. Period. " "Uh... hey... Slow down... I wasn't going there... I know you would toss me out an airlock if I did that... I still wonder though people keep saying that she is like Misu... You didn't know Misu so is pointless for me to ask you but yeah... Well Did you want me to stick around for your report or is this all for now?" (She thought Aidan was accusing her of wanting to sleep with them) "No no. You misunderstand me. Sex is great and for those that can do the no strings attached, great. I can't. I don't share because I know I am a jealous bastard. I covet those I choose to love. Just the way I'm wired. I wasn't implying you were implying anything." Aidan chuckled at the end. "Oh... That kind of sounds romantic... I wish I had that with someone; the only dude who ever got that romancy with me is dead... Part of being a mech pilot though; just like you marines... We die a lot... So I choose to be with Josh and Misu for awhile helping them do their thing and teaching Misu the wonders of a threesome... I had Josh's kid but I'm in no way supposed to be a parent... A pervy ex-covert intel, IA spook who turned mech pilot and enjoys threesomes... No way, no how would I ever had been able to give that kid anything worth learning... I am glad I decided to be assigned to this ship; it makes staying away that much easier... I just hope I can find someone here again... By all likelihood I'll end up dead again so the no strings thing works..." "That's realistic...and depressing. I think that will be all for now, but don't be a stranger when it comes to social visits if you and Yuka are friends. I won't stand in the way of that." Aidan replied. "I think we should do the social thing too... You seem like a good guy. We will talk later." Sakura stood and did a salute to signal she was leaving and once he dismissed her she left. <END SIM>
<StART SIM> Aidan detested giving bad news. Especially with Kirin, the recent battle, and the new android colony, he was furiously trying to come up with a positive spin on the story. Since he time on the bridge was now anyway, Aidan refreshed himself and grabbed the padd. He used the VX implant to find out that Yuka was in her office. He knew it was a winding down approach for her. Walking to door, he pressed the call button and waited. "Enter." She said softly; she was currently working on a document from the Federation Senate Committee on Membership; they were drawing up a document to allow this colony to be its own entity and she was to review it. A command level thing but really something some admiral should handle she thought though she kept that opinion to herself. (edited) Aidan entered stood the requisite distance from her desk. Something he would have trouble doing wrong as it was an ingrained behavior by now. He waited until she reached a natural stopping point and looked at him since he needed her undivided attention. She gestured fro him to take a seat as she saw by his actions that this likely was something serious. She had arrived at the end of the document and would send the formalized proposal to the "government" (Candy) of the colony in the morning. She had reached the end of her day. Tomorrow would be another day though. She put her drink cup in the replicator for it to go away then she sat back down. "Technically it would be evening now... being four PM... So Good evening my dear Major... you seem to have something on your mind... What's up?" She said folding her hands together and proping ehr head on them watching him. He handed her the padd. "We're going to need to convene a board of inquiry for Lieutenant Kengori. It's all there in the PADD, but suffice it to say, he's below standard to say the least and maybe borderline psyche case, maybe not so borderline. Sakura and I had a chat with him and he was amenable to everything mostly, so Medical is looking him over and we finally have something for that glorified ship's counselor to do." "Dr. Shindler... Speaking of him... He filed his report; after the battle and the fact that I did not have a complete mental breakdown he concluded his review... He will be staying on board as long as we need him to but as of tomorrow morning we no longer have a command appointed mental health chaperone..." She skims through the document.
"I knew he was kind of special from the moment I came on board teh Lavie... But... This is like Kirin level shit... Some of it... It is not like his actions are anything like murdering a station full of 50000 people or burning 80 rioters to death. Though I believe you get my point... This is probably why most command personnel end up single... They alienate themselves until all they have left is other commanders and then MAYBE just MAYBE their most trusted advisers... I guess it was good I grabbed you before I became super bitch Captain of the 46th century... Overseeing a Board of Inquiry... Stupid... people... Why can less and less of our crew seem to do their damned jobs... Jeane left, Sophie was reassigned, Alex was reassigned, Kirin was dishonorably discharged... Scott went AWOL... Christ... Between all the dead and this stuff its lucky we even have a crew." (edited) "Sorry I got distracted between the wonderful news that shrink-boy is leaving and you mentioned grabbing me." He winked at her, then continued. "I don't really know what to make of Kengori. The man has some honest PTSD stuff in his civilian life which never were resolved and now it's snowballed. We'll have to see what happens after the medical and mental evals." Aidan said. "When we get back to Earth I am going to demand that leave they still owe me 24 hours is not leave... As for Koto Kengori... While his methods are insane and he does have his issues I feel like if trained right he could do his job properly... By the way... So who do you think would be a good Second Officer and who should we make Chief of Security on a provisional basis?" "The academy slipped up on letting him out so early... He did his full time but he should have done longer and have a much better review before being sent off.... Maybe even some earth-side assignments like my frist few missions..." "That list is REALLY short. Larson, though she'd be a bit heavy handed, she's loosened up some. I guess my first choice would be Hiroki. Not really much of a choice. I don't see Blom in the role though his training could be more or less uploaded." "For second Officer?" "No, security. The only real candidate for Second Officer is Lumi, maybe Sakura, but I have no knowledge of her other than the few minutes where we dealt with the inquiry material." (edited) "I was thinking Lumi or Commander Carain too... Lumi still has some growing to do though I think.... Then again so do I... For security; James Ross... It said in his file he did that role on the Shadow Fire the ship Alexandria Werner was the CO of... She is practically a legend. You said Misaki Hiroki... I am interested to hear your thoughts on her and as far as Persephone... I am interested to hear your thoughts too... Just two weeks ago you didn't even want her 100 feet from me.. Now you think she could handle security?" (edited) "Like I said. Short list, not an ideal list. Then let's do Ross for security and how about a trial run with Lumi and Carain. It would give us more time out of the bridge rotation. We could go to a four shift rotation, even if we don't for the rest of the Lavie." (edited) "or even keep the three and we alternate morning duty on the bridge" or even 6 hour command rotations; it would give you and I a chance to get our jobs done and actually interact with our crew; I think Carain would be acting Second Officer just due to rank until we decide if we want to give Lumi SO after a while; For security; Alright James Ross it is." "Works for me Captain." "Now the really really FUN question... Obviously you and I have to be on the Board of inquiry unless we want Sakura or Lumi to be the second command level person but rank-wise that is literally it; we don't have too many actual command level personnel on board... For the third member of the Board... Who do you think would be the best neutral party?" "Sakura might have to recuse herself due to her knowing Kengori. I think it has to be you, me, and Lumi." "and the lead investigator and defense?" "Sakura on defense. Hiroki on lead." "Alright... Didn't Hiroki just lose her fiance though... or do you think she will be okay?" "It'll give her something different to concentrate on." "So the evidence for this was compiled by Ensign Ari Mizriki... I remember telling you to have her help you; how did she do?" "She takes her job seriously. Once she uncovered the facts she knew that she'd have to make the case for the inquiry. Color me impressed." Aidan offered. "Plus appreciative to get away from Dale for a few hours." (edited) "Alright.... The way she did this is pretty impressive too... It shows she had the knowledge... Once she finishes her training I think she will be a great addition to the crew. I will reach out to the JAG office... I will also send them this; she might have a future in investigations or intelligence if she makes this quality of reports in such short order." "Anything else before I leave?" "Nothing official. Just that I think we should celebrate tonight." "What is there to celebrate?" "One, that brain boy will soon be out of our hair, and you're as sane as I always knew you were. Two, that we're still alive and kicking and aiming to stay that way, and most importantly, three, my love for you grows every day and I wish to show you just how much." Aidan offered. (edited) "Well... We can do that then... You still have a shift to finish though." She said getting up and coming over to him kissing him. "Now dismissed before I do something that would probably get us both in trouble as you are on duty sir." She said winking "Maybe I could be on break." He said sticking out his tongue and turning to leave. (edited) She chuckled "I'll have dinner waiting..." "And afterwards we can eat." Implying the dirty thought running through both their minds. "You can reheat food... Now run along before I seal the door..." Aidan turned and walked out the door before he sealed it himself and swept her desk clean. <END SIM>

Joint Post – June 14 2017 Sakura Carain Niklas Blom August 14th 4566 <START SIM> After their meeting Sakura had headed to the Lounge. After the conversation that Yuka had with Aidan she was also there too; she decided she would have a drink. Sakura came over to her table and Yuka nodded and then said after finishing a drink. "Feel free to sit." "Thanks." "We never really have talked much have we Captain?"" "Nope; I know a lot about you though from your records." "Files never tell the whole story though..." "Nope... " "We should try to talk more." "Especially if you will make a good Second Officer... I gotta go make dinner though." "Couldn't the replicator do that?" "It is not as special; everybody loves a home cooked meal!" Sakura pauses after Yuka said that then she replies "That is true... Well have fun with that... Maybe you could show me how to cook some time?" "Sure. Bye bye." Yuka leaves to her and Aidan's quarters to begin preparing an elaborate meal for their "celebration" as Aidan put it. Niklas walked in. Surveying the room he saw a younger woman sitting alone. He walked up and asked her, "Are you waiting for someone?" Sakura had not actually even ordered anything yet and an apparent younger man had come up asking if she was waiting for someone; his movements and mannerisms seemed like those of someone much older. Sakura couldn't quite pin down what the reason for that was so she just responded. "Not in particular... Feel free to take a seat... How is your evening so far sir?" "Boring. I was hoping at least for some decent conversation. Getting very tired of reading the computer files. He extended a hand since she was human. "Niklas Blom. Resident android refugee at your service." Sakura nodded and then stood taking his hand to shake. " Pleasure to meet you Mr. Blom; I'm Commander Sakura Carain; I run the AMC detachment in board... However; you were the governor of this world in some manner if I am remembering right... The name rings a bell from some documents I read... Your world was a mining colony..."
He took the offered seat. "Yes it was. Though admittedly winding down. There are richer sources of our most valuable, the most valuable", he corrected himself, "closer to the inner systems. I almost don't blame Candy, and I did get a new body out of the encounter, though admittedly have little otherwise to show for it." (edited) "Other than a huge case of going out of my mind with boredom." He quipped. "So close to the rim it was likely just some corporation thinking they could make a power play for the resources... Governance..." "Water under the bridge so to speak as it's no longer my concern. What passes for entertainment in your sphere of influence?" He asked. (edited) She giggles at his sphere of influence thinking her recognized her name or something; she was related to Hukari after all. She then says "Well... I never exactly did the whole politicking thing anyway; I just needed to know about it to do my job... Before I came back to this ship I basically was like an armed escort for politicians; did random things for my cousin... Now I don't have to do that anymore... Now I get to shoot stuff again and protect this ship... Or were you meaning.... what I do for fun; that is a complicated answer.... I maintain and upgrade mech technologies; it is pretty work related though... Outside of work I like doing stuff with videos and recording things... editing them... computer stuff.... I probably could be a mechanic if I wanted to... with how computerized everything is now..." She said seeming to enjoy going off on random spurts of information. "Ah...well I had the chance to play bodyguard for Miss Trouve. Getting upgraded like a computer was certainly and interesting experience. I have had the opportunity since to practice and find it more relaxing than I ever would have thought possible. Maybe I missed my calling?" Niklas offered "Protecting people... Well; we it is usually not that difficult Well if you are in a mech or something cause most people unless they are stupid won't mess with you... War is a whole different story... Being captured by the enemy is no fun either..." She was glad he did not ask about what she records and edits; that would have made things a little more awkward. "Editing and recording. Maybe I should start looking at some old entertainment. There were some great classic in the era of actual film. That would pass some time. What are you drinking?" Niklas asked. "Oh... right now just soda pop... I was considering vodka though; none of the synthetic stuff either... See they have these pills and hypos that you know undo the effects so if I have to be deployed it doesn't actually matter... Movie editing... Not exactly what I do... but I could do that for you..." She said trying to avoid a reaction.
"No, no. I meant watching them! One of my favorites is "the Quiet Man". Not politically correct but a fun adventure. Of course it is hard not to have a reaction to Maureen O'hare, but I digress. Alcohol has no effect on my anymore....sadly. Plus my tastes aren't the same I used to enjoy a good single malt. Waste of good resources now." "You talk so old... Like... Hang on a sec... Oh... So THAT is what you meant... So your an old guy in a young mans robotic body... It sounds kind of cute.... Means you have all the experience and life lessons of someone older but you get to relive your youth... While sort of... Er... I am not much in to old motion pictures really... My stuff is of a different verity altogether." (edited) "What is that you like to record and edit?" Niklas asked, as he ordered a beer. ".... Things that are not for the faint at heart and something you shouldn't show your kids..." Since he was starting to drink she decided she would have another drink herself this time with vodka in it. The beer arrived and he sampled it, only making a slight face. "Adult activities.: Niklas said and left it at that. "I need something to do before I lose what is left of my mind?" Sakura just puts her head on the table. "Did you really have to say taht out loud... Oh well... As for something to do; I have a long list of things but they would make you lose your mind even more for one reason or another..." "Are you ashamed?" he asked honestly. "... uh... not really... Well more shocked that you would say somehting like that so openly..." "I'm Swedish or was. We left most preconcepts millenia ago." "Plus you are a old man trapped in a young androids body... So does that mean you are a dirty old man?" She teased hoping to get some kind of an awkward reaction out of him 'Niklas laughed out loud. "There is very little you could do or show I haven't seen in my 80+ years in this galaxy. Though now that you mention it, I don't know what I am. A dirty old young man, Robot the perv?" (edited) "There is nothing wrong with being a perv... Until soceity ousts you for it but most peole I guess have realized that... So until you start telling the world... you... edit the stuff heh...." She thankfully stopped herself from saying make; as she records herself. "And for you to say something like that your SO might have been pretty kinky..." "A gentleman never tells." Though he winked at her. (edited) "I would ask you to indulge me but it is not exactly proper unless the other person wants it... So... since I told you my forbidden little tressure; do you have any intereting little tidbits?" "All my parts work again." He stuck his tongue out in a rare moment." "Oh... Heh" She winked "That is always good to know; life can get dull if you want..." "But you cant." "I'm sure everything will wear out. I can always get a mortal body and then it will go the route it was supposed to if I ever get THAT bored."
"Well; if you ever need to test your capabilities... I would be delighted to take one for the team... And they could just replace... things... If they ever did break; though I imagine life would get dull and sad; living past all your SOs, children,,, Everyone you knew and loved being gone... At that point what would be the point in living?" She posed this question; she would be interested and she hoped she made that clear but she was not going to flat out ask him to go with her unless he gave her the signal to do so; she had changed a little as she aged; she still liked it but she was not going to try to at least overly seduce someone into being with her... It should come from them not her making them do it. She then added "If you are in a line of work like mine though... There is a reason I do this kind of stuff; its fun and it brings me joy... Every deployment could be my last; we mech pilots and just like fighter pilots and marines... Die a lot..." (edited) "I will keep your generous if slightly selfless offer in my my dear. It could be a fun diversion. However, I am still new to this....wonder, I can hurt you unintentionally. Ask Miss Trouve. I broke her arm not meaning to. Though it was in a state of panic. As for the combat, please stay safe, though I know it's a platitude." "I don't mind pain... It beats nothing at all... Sometimes loneliness is the worst pain of them all. I always try not to die but this last battle cut it pretty close for the ship; I would rather sacrifice myself then not have a hoe to come back to and see all you wonderful people killed... So if you want to use me to practice... We can set some ground rules... I'd honestly even die for Hukari-chan if she asked me too... She never would though." "Again a generous offer, I am not ready, yet. Though if you find yourself in need of companionship....my door is always open. There is more to love than sex." ".... I know that... I just; knowing that I might die even though I have done this for so long it is difficult; I don't even really know how it happened with my previous SO... It just did... The guy I married before him was killed in a mech battle... I gave the guy my life and he went off and died... I guess at least I managed to have a child with the second guy; though I am no parent; my line of work is enough reason to not want to expose the child to me... On top of that... my nature.... Would not be a good thing for a kid to be exposed to..." She seemed to be getting a little sentimental. "Oh now....let's not start the waterworks. Tell you what, I was able to retrieve a scant few things from the planet. One of them is VERY old bottle of brandy. Why don't we curl up on the couch, we'll watch a film or two, my choices, and see where things go. You should not be alone tonight. Even if nothing happens I would feel better if you joined me rather than moping and getting snockered." Niklas offered. "If I get too close and die though... Thats why the no strings thing works so welll I don't want to leave anyone missing me... I already screwed that up by meeting and getting too close to Josh and Misu... I guess aanother person won't hurt." "Don't go weeping for me though if something bad happens." She said looking at him seriuosly. It seemed she was afraid of leaving people behind. "Bang someone in your honor?" He quipped.
She quickly finishes her drink; a hardened look that was there vanishing almost in an instant. "You could do that... I'm maybe a little more screwed up then I thought... So worryed that making friends and lovers worry about me and miss me if I die that I just settle for one off sex relationships... That is no way to live... I might as well already be dead at that point..." "You should stop talking. Now you're depressing me. I started out that way. Are you coming with me or staying to wallow in your sorrows and morbidity?" Sakura stands and nods "I'll come... Thank you." She said taking his hand Niklas led her out of the lounge and back to his quarters for the night. He was determined to try and stop or at least comfort the young woman. It would be meaningless but potentially wonderful.

Joint Post – June 16 2017 Sakura Carain Dom Martinez August 19th 4566 – Late Evening
<START SIM>
Sakura had finished her day a few hours early and with the arrival of a new fighter wing she had been working to get the mechs moved. Not too difficult of a task to oversee but she was glad to get a rest from the activity. She had decided to go have some time in the sauna and had arrived in there when the gym was empty. She actually had nearly fallen asleep in the nice warmth of the room in a towel and her bikini. She did like the feeling of peace this nice warm place brought. She thought maybe she could do this more often in her half conscious state. Something also had occurred to her while sort of conscious; the ships new Chief of Flight Operations was someone she had not met yet. In overseeing the move of her machines she had been too focused to introduce herself and he was only around for a short while; apparently still acclimating himself to the ship. She would have to introduce herself later she noted as her consciousness was starting to fade into a sort of nap-like trance state due to the peace, warmth and overall tranquility of this experience.
Dom noticed the young lady in a towel with the bikini but his mind was distracted on what Sarissa had told him, what his mind was telling him. He needed to resolution, he needed closure. He was trying to figure it out in his head. He could not just rush over to the DFS Essex that was still in orbit and go over to her place in this late hour. She was married now, no doubt her husband was with her on this journey, that would be awkward encounter to say the least and not one that would favor him at all.
Dom took a seat, on the apposing bench. He placed his towel next to himself. His shirt was already glazing with sweat from the work out that he just had. He took a seat and looked down at the floor at his feet. He began to think, these feet have had quiet a journey to this pint and they were not done yet.
The heat pouring off the heated rocks was a soothing. Dom was a little tense after the workout, perhaps he should have taken Sarissa up on the stretching. Now he was slightly regretting it.
Dom was glad the young lady was distracted he wanted to sit in the sauna and just relax, he feared that she would start to open up and talk. He tilted his head down to avoid eye contact.
Sakura was pulled out of her half sleeping state by a man whom she had yet to meet siting across from her. She slowly turned her attention to the man. How long had she been sitting here is this state. She had her own problems going on but to state them to someone she had just met would not be appropriate. He seemed to have something on his mind though. She wondered what his story was; should she talk to him or leave him be... She made it obvious she was awake now by shifting slightly observing him. He was avoiding eye contact and seemed trapped deep withiin his thoughts. (edited)
Dom then began to roll his head back and forth, a make shift stretching exercise in the sauna. The heat was intense and he loved it, it was loosing up his small muscular build. It felt great to workout, however it did not help him inside. He was still conflicted, but he made sure to keep that in check. It's one thing to talk to the doc, but he did not want to a non medical professional about his emotions.
Dom could sense she was watching him. He debated what to say. He really did not want to talk, but it would be impolite to flat out ignore her. He decided better to see what she wanted so he can go back to relaxing. "can I help you"
She decided to say something that was kind of silly but a good conversation breaker though before she could say it he asked her a question. Sakura tilted her head slightly. "You seem like you are battling with something... Just that posture you know... I just figured I'd try to talk to you; lighten your mood a little... Say I've not seen you around the ship before; you must be one of the replacement crew. I'm Sakura Carain; I head up the AMC branch on the ship."
Great thought Dom, a chatter box, and what made it worse, she was going to be working with him on a regular basis. He debated what to say. He was lost in thought and his mannerisms where not at top peak. It took him a moment to open up. "CFO Dom Martinez" was all that Dom said. He ignored the inquiry she made, he hoped she would drop the topic.
He was testing her, Dom wanted o see if she was the type of personality that had to get a response to everyone question she asked or if she could cope with the fact that not everyone wants their personal life to be shared. Dom assumed she was talking to him due to social etiquette. Being friendly and polite and addressing the fact your not alone in the room with simple conversation, was a social requirement. It was one that on most days annoyed Dom. He was a man on a mission, he had a future mapped out, there was a war to win. Hard to believe in the 46th century that terrorism would still exist, but it does.
"As official a response as ever.... Well welcome to the Lavie Lieutenant." She said in response recalling his rank from the flight deck roster. She figured she would leave it at that; if he wanted to talk he could but she was not going to push the matter. She thought briefly about her son; after the talk with Niklas he was at the forefront of her mind. She wondered about how Misu and Josh were treating him but then she was reminded of why she never initiated contact; as she had told Niklas.... Between her work, personality and the possibility she could no longer be at any moment she felt it would not be worthwhile to start a relationship. (edited)
Dom could tell in her tone, she was offended, he hated social protocols. But he did not want to talk about himself, perhaps he could find away to get her to chatter about her life, and go on a rant about it so all he had to do is sit back and pretend to listened. "You know Miss, Mrs. Carain, you too seem a little tense, everything alright" asked Dom, hoping him asking that question would get him off of having to make a conversation with her and allow her a chance to rant, it seemed clear to him by her tone she was just as distracted as he was.
"You seem just as tense... but we don't have to talk... It is usually just better... Between the two of us its known we could end up dead at any point; on this ship is the safest we will ever be... The moment we leave the fight deck our lives are literally hanging out in the wind." She commented. She had wanted a conversation but it seemed as though he was far too into his own thoughts for that to happen. She would just let things be; one thing that officers required to be promoted was a social connected-ness to those around them. One could not just be a board and hope to get far but she would leave it at that if that was what was required.
The room was getting warmer and warmer to Dom, partially because his body was starting to sweat and partially to the awkwardness he felt in this social gathering. The sweat continued to glisten on his body till a small streak of sweat from his forward down his face and landed on his shirt. Dom thought about reaching for his towel, but he was barely sweating. Nothing to get to excited over, thought Dom.
"I plan on living through this war, Miss, Mrs, rank Carain" pointed out Dom. He was not eager to die out here all alone and without a purpose. He wondered to himself, what in the hell happened to this lady she talks about death like its a companion waiting to strike? (edited)
Damn her thought Dom. The last thing he wanted to do was be dragged into a conversation. He was hoping for a one sided conversation. But at least if they were going to be having a conversation, he would make sure the conversation was directed at her not him.
Sakura noticed that he was getting warmer; this room was quite the experience but it helped to relieve stress and as much as some hated it or were oblivious to it this place was also a social gathering point. Sakura had not come here intending to have a conversation or meet the person she was planning to talk to him the morning but that is just what happened. She had been in here for quite a while and so she was already accustomed to the room though it made a nap quite nice even though sleeping in here was not an advisable practice. She nodded when he said he plans to survive the war. She didn't know how to respond to that; nobody intended to die... It just happened. She was speechless for a moment. She wondered what she could say... She was dealing with this very problem about possibly dying and she had all the career advancement she ever wanted... Due to her relationship with Hukari and her service record she could have actually been at the very least an XO by this point in her career but she decided to stay in field posts like this where her life was on the line. (edited)
Dom felt he had already pegged what type of persona this Miss Carain was. She was strikcken by grief and was waiting for death to take all she loved, which told him that she felt the way he did, but probably worse since she does not have a chance to reconcile. Her at least had the opportunity, assuming Sarah would talk to him. But in regards to this lady he was not sure of her rank. He had yet to read the leadership roster of the DFS Lavie, he had spent the last four days going over technical manuals on the new fighter bay.
Dom noticed the lady did not respond, he thought to himself, damn her she is trying to force him to open up. But he was not going to take the bait. He sat across from her, and reached down to grab some water, he got ready to place it on the heated rocks. "is it okay to add, more steam" asked Dom. This was more of a courtesy then asking for permission. (edited)
"Always" She simply responded to him adding more steam. She was not really intending to force him to open up it was just that she did not know how to respond. Were she to just unload that would be socially inappropriate and a burden on him as he seemed to already have his own problems. She wondered if the two of them should share little bits about their situation. She had not looked up his service record or anything about him so she was highly clueless about the man before her. She wondered how much combat he had seen; was his record like hers or was he lucky enough to have been outside of combat; that was true luck she thought... There were officers who had never seen combat though and worked as long as they had if not longer; hell some Captains had not even seen as much combat as she had.
She finally decided to say something. "Well... I hope whatever you are going through you manage to find peace." (edited)
Dom was good at reading body posture, anything he could do to limit conversation was key to his survival to stay focused on his training, he wanted to be a starship captain someday. He was not really here to make friends, he was not hear to strike up a deep conversation and talk about universal meaning or to talk about how Billy Bob Joe was doing at his job, this was his time to relax.
Dom poured the water on and the steam began to intensify the room with its vapors, this caused Dom to have a flashback back on the DFS Falco, where his fighter had taken damage and it was steaming up in the bay. It was a touch and go moment, but Dom made it out safely and that's all that really mattered.
Dom like this lady, was use to his share of combat, maybe he had not been as close to people, so when they did, it allowed him to be more closed off, less emotionally attached. This was war, in part he felt that you needed to be unattached. It was easier for him to be unattached, than it was for her. Even though it was easier, there were days like today that made it more of a challenge to get through. But in the end, he was not grieving over the loss of everyone that he lost under is command or with his command.
Dom could remember the flight deck crew panicking to get him out of the cockpit, and hitting the fire suppression system. They panicked in his mind, they needed to trust in their skill set, and logically think through the course of action. In that sense, Dom was trying to think logically how could he get through this social encounter, intact?
Sakura had finally reached a point where she felt she needed someone to talk to. Noticing his reactions and the way he seemed so closed off this probably would not be him. It must be a boring life he led if he had no friends on ships like this... After all months between stops... You had to get to know someone... They were literally in a cage in space. She got up thinking about going somewhere else after all this situation was just bringing up both of their past memories; how was that helpful? She stood there for a moment still deep in thought about her son and the fact that she latched on to one off relationships to fill this void inside her because she was too afraid to seek valid long term friendships or potentially something more. Like she had said in her conversation with Niklas her husband was killed and she was not even there to say goodbye; it was off on some deep space protection detail. The only other relationship she had that even half way worked was that she had with Josh and Misuki but she even left them becuase her son needed a safe place to be.
Dom was lost in thought with Sarah on one side, and on the side this lady and somewhere in the middle he was now thinking back to a moment, a trigger flashback to a little crisis. Dom was the composure of keeping his emotions in check. He was sometimes portrayed as rude or closed off, but it was better than the alternative, in war, people die, why bother creating long term friendships, and he was really annoyed at the way some officers were running this war, he wanted to become a captain to help others. Dom was not sure if his distant posturing was the answer for all but it made easier to deal with death.
He could also help to make sure only a minimal amount of personal needed to die. The Battle of Sol in 4562, was a costly mistake for the DFS. Some dumb ass admiral got half of the unit killed because of poor choice. Dom did not want people to die, he knew it would happen but on his watch he would do his best to keep that number down to minimum. (edited)
Dom felt he was allowing her emotions to control his. Damn she was good thought Dom. He needed to bring up his level mental guard. He sat back, he debated on saying anything. For the moment he decided it was better to be quiet. Maybe he would have a chance to sit back and think.
Sakura finally said something as opposed to leaving which she really wanted to do but it seemed to be something lodged deep within her. She then just asked it. "Do you have children Lieutenant?" She was asking to see if maybe he had fallen into the same situation she had as far as children go. She did not want to be part of her sons life as she felt she would be a bad influence and additionally she thought she was a risk to be around. She had been told that she needed to make friends and that her one off sexual relationships were going to do nothing to fill her void of guilty, fear of death, general negative attitude towards the future and her need to feel needed. She wondered if the reason Dom acted so closed was because he had lost friends in combat or if it was just a personality thing; some people just literally wanted a s little human contact as they needed to survive.
"That's a little personal" suggested Dom as he debated if he wanted to answer it. He thought about it, then said "I take it you have kids" asked Dom as he tried to twist the conversation back on her.
She sat back down. "A boy. He is back on Earth."
"in the academy" asked Dom, he was curious a little on why they were not together. Logical reason would be, because he was in the academy. Dom was not sure if her son like his little sister was in the academy.
Dom was happy the conversation steered away from him and was now directed back at her, where it needed to be. Dom was not really one to express himself to anyone.
"He is a toddler. As for why he is not here... You fight; you should know the answer to that without me telling you."
"Besides people like us should not be parents..."
"I have eight siblings, even though I do not have kids Miss Carain, I understand the importance of family and keeping them safe, its why I am out here fighting this war" simply replied Dom. He hoped she was not going to try to probe to hard. He was a little annoyed she left her baby to fight in this war. The child was no safer on a planet than it would be on the DFS Lavie.
Dom's family meant everything to him, they were the only people he was close too, well beyond Sarah, but in all honesty he was not really close to Sarah, well not as close as he wanted to be. Dom was curious how she was going to respond.
"I'm going to give you some advice as your senior in rank... Don't hold in feelings... Even if you don't want to talk to someone you don't know about them... Tell the person whom you feel that way... Don't let them run away like I did with my husband; in our line of work when that happens they are usually going to be killed. I'm happy I had the option to leave my kid in a safe place with people who can protect him. Keep your siblings close... Aside from the President and her sister I have no family left. If they are safe make sure they stay that way." She had gotten very deep as his comment hit a cord within her. If he cared about his family he needed to not follow her example or even do it in the way she did. He needed to keep them protected. It was odd; she gave people advice so they would not do what she did but yet she didn't take her own advice; then again it was easier to give advice then follow it yourself.
"The president is your sister" asked Dom in disbelief, as he thought great, she will probably tell her sister how much of an ass he is and it will get back to Senator Candor or Andoria, the man overseeing this experiment, placing small fighter contingents on warships.
"The President is my cousin." "you mention president and her sister, see my confusion" asked Dom, he was trying to keep the attention on Miss Carain.
"Kori is who I was talking about; Hukari and Kori are the only family I have left."
"Sorry for your losses, but as you said you have them" suggested Dom, hoping the thought of them, would get the conversation back on her and not on him.
Dom had his family to reach back and love and get support from. They were all he needed, well all that he thought that he needed, but apparently Dom had some closure issues, that needed to be addressed.
"I've been told that friendship is something that we all need... You seemed so interested in my relationship with Hukari though; you don't have to worry... I only tell her good things about the people here... This crew is good people.... Everyone here is going to make something of themselves one day... You included... Just remember making social connections is part of being human... I am pretty shitty at following my own advice but; don't be like me... It is not about what you know; its about who you know.' (She is trying to tell him to confront his problems)
"perhaps you should follow your advise" suggested Dom as he got her to open up more and more and he closed down more and more. It would be easier this way thought Dom, he already needed to talk to Sarah, and that was already going to be a challenge for him. He did not want to tackle on trying to open up his feelings to her or to anyone, Dom was focused on getting his own command.
Dom did agree that the key to be happy was communication, he had a support group. His family, but deep down he had to admit to himself that maybe he needed more than just them. He sat in the sauna, with a little sweat building up on his body, and he thought to himself, well Dom, you opened up to Sarissa, that counts, and your gonna open up to Sarah, so his circle of influence was expanding. More than he wanted it too!
"Well... It seems like you are less tense then you were.... I'm gunna go. If you ever want to talk feel free to reach out." Sakura was glad she could help him be less tense. She did not feel like she needed to be told to follow her own advice; he was hard to read and so she would leave it at that. If he wanted to talk to her he could; if not... Well that was his choice. She got up and left heading to change. (edited)
Dom saw her reaction to his response, before she left the room. He grabbed her wrist slightly, enough to get her attention and then let her go. He looked at her. "the choices we make in life are never easy, but they are the choices that are needed in the moment" said Dom, hoping that would ease her mind.
"What if we knew those choices were the wrong ones but we did them anyway." She said that not as a question but as a statement apparently drawing it from something in her past.
"we are only" said Dom as he paused for a moment as he grinned "human, we are bound to make mistakes, we learn from them, we grow" said Dom as he cracked a smile. I was not easy for him. But the moment had gotten to him. He slightly broke his hard boy persona.
"good night Miss Carain" said Dom as he noticed she was still near the exist.
She stared at him lightly as he said that. "Thanks... I think I need to take my humanity to heart more often... I need to talk to my son... and I need to make friends... Good night Lieutenant."She finished heading out the door to go change. After changing she went to the lounge for the third night ain a row to go drink. She seemed to be doing this more now that her problems were no longer on the back burner; leaving your issues in plain sight made them harder to deal with. She felt a little better but she was a long way from any groundbreaking progress or anything like that.

Yuka Layton DFS Lavie - Bridge/Captain's Ready Room Aug 20th 4566 - Morning
Yuka had just arrived in on the bridge this morning. Nothing happened but at least the repairs were making headway. The new mechbay was just about complete and most of the external repairs were completed. Most of the time now after this week of repairs would be focused on fixing internal components and building the access hatches to the new ships once they were created. The mechbay still needed work but the main core of it was constructed. The engineering teams combined with support from the planet’s orbital facility were very efficient; that was something you could expect from a planet ruled by machines even if Candy was a bit illogical.
Lumi provided her report from the night then left the bridge. Yuka; feeling that since repairs were still underway not much would be required of her on the bridge called Sakura up to take over and hen went to her Ready Room. She still had yet to meet the new flight leader and figured it would be a good thing to do so. She also noted that she had not met their new Doctor either. She would need to talk with hir at some point anyway unless she wanted to look over the medical duty rosters to find Petell or Sarissa to do another check up on her left eye. At this point it was just a procedural checkup as was normal due to her condition and the fact that her eyes were repaired less than a month prior by that specialist.
She decided that she would call the new Chief of Flight Operations first to meet with him. She activated the ships com and then opened a channel internally within the ship.

“Could you come to my Ready Room hen you are free… It is nothing urgent however we have not been formally introduced… I like to check in with all my senior and most of my junior officers upon arrival… I am a little late in your case but I still feel we should have this chat.” She explained; she knew the explanation was not necessary as she was his commander but she felt giving him one anyway was useful for some reason.

"go ahead, Captain" said Dom, he had a feeling he knew what this was about. The classic meet and greet.

"I will be there shortly, Martinez out" said Dom, as he left the bay and started to make his way to the bridge. Dom thought about changing out of his flight suit, but he just got into the suit. And Dom did not want to keep the Captain waiting.

DFS Lavie ~ Gym, Sauna, Shower/Lockers Lieutenant Junior Grade Dom Martinez August 19, 4566 ~ Late Evening
“Humanity,” said Sukara. It was something she needed to discover in herself, perhaps the same could be said Dom. He was still in the sauna. His pores were filled with sweat, it was trying to cool down his body a natural biological reaction.
The sauna seemed more intense than usual. It was probably due to the fact that her message hit home, despite the fact he really did not show it. Dom did his best to keep his defenses up. He reached over and grabbed his towel and stood up to leave the sauna area. He walked over to the showers and draped his towel over the stall and turned on the water system and took a shower, the cool water hitting his skin was slightly refreshing.
Dom stood under the gentle stream of water that was pouring down his body and began to think about, what he was going to say to her. He knew that he was tired of feeling this way; he needed to regain control over his life.
In order to regain control over his life, he needed to address a few questions, and they were the questions that he had been avoiding for the past seven years.
Why did it take him seven years to discover he still had feelings for Sarah?
Why did he leave her, why didn’t he even try to make the relationship work?
Did he really leave Sarah to get a command of a ship?
He wondered was his duty to the Federation more important than his feelings for Sarah?
Did he really leave Sarah for this blasted war?
Dom remembered their last day together, they were both crying, they made that last day very special and very intense. Then they never spoke again. Dom wondered if Sarah hated him for this? Granted it was partially her decision too, but he felt maybe she agreed to this to make him happy.
Dom and Sarah had talked for months about the choice prior to the breakup. They needed to discover their futures. The only thing Sarah asked was, if Dom and Sarah decided to leave, they leave things clean and move on. Not to confuse things by staying in contact.
Dom and Sarah both agreed that time would heal all wounds, but it was clear his wounds never healed, he just buried them and suppressed the pain. The emotional pain he felt was too real, it was to much for him to let go. Dom could not let go, but he had to, Sarah was now married.
Dom was alone and he hated it, but he did not know how to change. He knew he could not change. He had spent the past seven years building up barriers, so he never had to feel the way he did that night, when he walked out on Sarah.
Dom had been preached since a young kid, the importance it was for all members to join the military to fight to protect its citizens against the forces that mean to do the federation harm. Dom bought right into the propaganda. But so did Sarah.
Sarah was not an officer or an enlisted man. In Dom eyes she was worse, she was a politician, it was her way to assist with this war. Maybe getting the council, the federation to expand their horizons and be more accepting of outside perspective.
Dom missed the presence of Sarah, he missed her smell, her body, her soft delicate hands, how she would listen to him for hours and how he would listen to her. Dom missed their deep conversations and how much in love they were.
The emotions were keeping him captive and his sanity was on the line, he was bound to see this through, he needed to see the light at the end of the tunnel, he needed closure! He needed to stop making excuses and take ownership and get his issues resolved.
Dom’s tears dried up, it was safe to leave the shower, he quickly washed up. He did not want to have another emotional breakdown in front of the crew. He dried off as quickly as he could. He walked over to the replicator and placed his old uniform inside. “computer recycle this and generate a new outfit” ordered Dom.
Dom threw on his new uniform, still a little wet, he wanted to get out of the bay and get his composure. Dom made a quick getaway and decided it was best to retreat to the safety of his quarters.
DFS Lavie ~ Personal Quarters Lieutenant Junior Grade Dom Martinez August 19, 4566 ~ 2130 hours
Dom almost ran his room, he did not want to deal with the crew of the Lavie. Dom sat down, looked at the desk, it was bare, and lacking any personal touches. He looked at the darkened monitor; and placed a call directly over to the DFS Essex.
This was call was all about him finding peace and possibly closure. He had his selfish reasons, to place this call. At the moment he was not thinking about the impact this could have on Sarah. Stirring up old feelings, while she was married, was a very selfish move on his part, but he needed closure.
Dom felt in this moment that he was spinning out of control. He needed to make a call to her, but he thought in this moment, that he needed help. Maybe his older sister, Mable would be willing to assist him.
Dom was trying to debate on what to say to his sister. He was stalling and he knew it. He tapped on the monitor. “Computer open a channel with the DFS Essex to Commander Mable Sanchez”
“Here goes nothing” softly whispered Dom.
It only took a few minutes to establish a channel with his sister on the Essex. She was smiling on the line. "I expected you to call an hour ago" teased Mable with a grin.
Dom had no plan to call her, they said their goodbyes last night and earlier today. He wondered why she expected his call. He took a moment and then wondered if she expected him to call about Sarah. "how did you know" asked Dom.
"you're my blood, and I know how important she was to you" said Mable.
"I was not even sure, I was going to call" pointed out Dom. He was being a little distance in his voice.
"I knew" she repeated as she went on "She is going to be in the ten forward to meet me for drinks, join us" asked Mable.
Dom felt a heavy sink of guilt pouring over his soul. He wanted to say yes, but it was hard. He chickened out and said "It will be weird with her husband there too" said Dom, he was trying to cop out.
"he is not here, I thought I told you that" suggested Mable. "You need to see her, I can see you're hurting Dom, listen to me when I ask you to see her" pleaded Mable. She hated seeing her brother hurting like this.
"And say what, I love you, she is happy and I don't want to hurt her" suggested Dom.
"you hurt her 7 years ago, this is your chance to make amends with that, you both need closure, go to her" softly pleaded Mable.
"I don't know" said Dom, he wanted to say yes, but he was honestly thinking of her feelings and he would hate to see her in pain. He was the one in pain and was afraid to express how felt, he spent so many years repressing his feelings. He did not want to look weak to anyone ever again.
"you owe this to her, and to you" said Mable in a more strict tone. "you're my blood and I will always love you, but if you do not do this, I will never let you forget it" threatened Mable.
Dom knew she meant it. "you said ten forward on the Essex" asked Dom. He knew it was best not to piss off his sister, he wanted to put this behind him. She was right, Sarissa was right, he had repressed feelings that needed to come out.
"yes" simply said Mable, she thought to herself, finally this family drama could finally come to a rest. Dom needed this as much as Sarah did. "will you join us" asked Dom.
"yes" softly said Dom. He wanted to sound more confident, but his voice was weak and filled with emotion. He was finding it hard to speak. Dom thought to himself, 'get a hold of yourself'. He was a man, he needed to act like it. Damn it, get a hold of yourself, thought Dom.
"Good, I tell the transporter chief to let you board, I will meet you in ten forward, Mable out" said Mable as she closed the channel.
Dom was starting to panick. He walked over to the replicator. He had no idea what to wear. He did not want to go over in his uniform. He was off duty. He wanted to show her, that he was still a normal guy.
10 minutes had passed.
Dom had just got off the coms with Commander Carain. Dom was given a pass, and he promised Sakura that he would be back prior to his shift. Dom was still a professional and he was going to prove that, first with Sarah and then with the crew of the DFS Lavie.
Dom needed to make the most of this opportunity. This was his one chance to find peace. He needed to put this behind him, Dom knew this was going to b hard and he needed to man it up a little to quote an old human expression.
Dom wasted little time leaving his quarters and getting on the transporter pad of the DFS Lavie and beaming over to the DFS Essex. Dom had been cleared by his sister, the transporter chief did not give him any hassle. Dom walked quickly over to Ten Forward.
DFS Essex, Personal Quarters Sarah Gillman August 19, 4566 21:15 hours
Sarah was reading the memos that were sent to her quarters for the meeting, she was having several hours when her communicator beeped. She hit her badge and said, “Sanchez!” It was Mable. “Sarah, Would you like to come over to ten forward for a couple of drinks and maybe catch up a bit.”
Sarah looked at her pad. It was usually very hard to say know to Mable. She sighed, “I’ll be there in ten. Sanchez out!” She dropped the pad on her desk walked over to the mirror where she checked her hair for a bit. It was hard being on the same ship as the sister of the man she left. What could they possibly catch up about.
Sarah got up feeling somewhat satisfied about her appearance and grabbed the scarf on her bed and looked at it. She threw it on the bed and then just put on her shoes and walked out of her room. She never thought about Dom for awhile, not since she got married, her new job. Not until she got the message she got the message she was being ferried by Mable. And now they would be talking about Dom again. Maybe. Sarah just had no idea what to say, and all of a sudden she didn’t how if she as suppose to feel guilty, even though they ended it on mutual ground.
DFS Essex ~ Ten Forward Bar and Grill Lieutenant Junior Grade Dom Martinez Sarah Gillam-Sanchez August 19, 4566 ~ 2130 hours
Dom walked into Ten Forward, it was strange being on a ship he was not assigned too, he was gazing with his eyes to find his sister. He was not really comfortable with being around of crew. He also did not want to draw attention to himself.
Dom walked into the room and walked right by Sarah. He was not looking for her at the moment, he was waiting for his support center, his sister the one he reached out too. Dom had no idea at this moment that his sister was intentionally standing him up.
Dom stood a few feet from Sarah, he was looking for his sister when he made eye contact with Sarah, his heart sank, he was speechless, he was a deer locked on the headlights of a moving car. His emotions were overwhelming. He stood there all silent.
The memories of Sarah started to pour over him. How many times did he see her sitting waiting for him to arrive. Now here she was waiting for him to arrive. Or was she. It was hard to tell, his emotions were getting the best of him, he was to distracted to think clearly at this very moment.
Say something you idiot, thought Dom as his mind was screaming out at him. Dom was just standing there, frozen with the sudden rush of emotions pouring out of him. He wondered how Sarah felt at this very moment as well. His body felt like a statue, his breath was deepened, his eyes were wide open, he felt scared and excited all in one. How did she still have this control over him?
Sarah walked into ten forward and walked over to the bar. She ordered a drink and sat down at a nearby table to wait for Mable. Not 5 minutes later someone walked in. She looked up to cross eyes with Dom. For a moment everything around seemed to fall silent. She quickly regained herself and got up and walked to him. “Dom, hi, I didn’t know you were here.” She hoped that would break the ice a little.
Dom was not sure what to say first, there was so much to say, but where to start, what to say first? He was still a deer caught in the headlights. Dom quickly glanced at Sarah, she looked amazing, even more than ever. That was hard to believe, because she was a lovely lady seven years ago. There was an awkward silence between, all on Dom’s part. He was scared, not sure what to say.
He was not sure, damn it man, get your shit together, thought Dom. His heart sank a little and he felt very heavy. As he stood there in silence. All Dom could think was, where in the hell was Mable to break up the awkward silence.
He focused quickly on Mable, he needed to gather his composure. “Mable did not tell you, that I was stopping by” asked Dom, his voice was a little squeaky with excitement. This was the moment he was waiting for, but he felt that he was already ruining the moment.
Dom thought he sounded like a young man going through puberty with a squeaky voice.
“Eh… no she wanted a drink and catch up.” Said Sarah. She didn’t know why he was acting so nervous. She followed and looked around for Mable, but she didn’t see her. She turned to Dom again, “So, would you like a drink?”
Would he like a drink, ya he would. This was a very intense moment for him. It was clear his sister set them up to talk. He thought to himself he would have to kill her, but thank her first. This was not the way he wanted to do this, he wanted his sister to make the approach for him.
But it was clear his sister was not showing up. He was alone and he was facing his biggest regret, alone and without the aid of a loved one. Sometimes in life, you have to face things on your own. Dom looked into her deep brown eyes as she asked the question, lost in her trance he said “yes”. He was not saying much, but it was a start.
Dom tried not to over stare at her direction, her face had hardly aged at all, she looked a little older but very attractive. Dom was very impressed at the woman she had become. Dom quickly saw an open table. He walked towards the chairs and motioned with his hand. He pulled the chair out for her.
Sarah looked to him and the table. She just smiled a bit nervous. She slowly walked over the table. She looked at him and then slowly turned around and sat down. She put her glass down on the table. She looked at him as he walked over to sit across from her.
Dom was very nervous as he took a seat across from her. Now he had a valid reason to stare in her direction. She was a lovely site, but he did not come tonight to admire her beauty, he came here to get his damn sanity back.
A waiter came over to their table “whatcha havin darling” asked the waitress.
Dom looked at her and then said “do you have any real drinks not that synthol” asked Dom.
“Andorian Ale” said the waitress with a grin.
“I’ll take one of those please” said Dom. He needed a drink to take the edge off.
“Sure thing darling” said the Waitress as she left.
Dom kept his hands at the table’s edge, more than anything in the world, he wanted to reach across and grab her soft delicate hands, that he remembered from seven years ago.
Dom wondered what was going through her mind, was she as just as nervous as he was. “I don’t think Mable’s coming” said Dom with a nervous grin.
Sarah nodded as she curled her lips. “I was beginning to get that feeling.” She sighed. “So how have you been?” She was not sure if she was looking for an answer, but she couldn’t bare the silence.
Dom noticed her hands were at the edge of the table as well, but he could clearly see her wedding ring. Was she trying to send him a message without saying it. He hoped he was not making her feel as comfortable as he was.
Dom thought to himse. Say what you came to say, you chicken shit. Dom needed to resolve his emotional demons and soon.
“Honestly” asked Dom, as he waited for Sarah to say something, this was a classic stalling technique.
Sarah noticed him looking at her hands and saw him noticing the ring. She nervously pulled her hand up and put her other hand on it. “Yea, sure..” She said.
“Lost, but just recently” said Dom, as he dropped how he felt sort of. He just left the part of her being the reason why he felt lost. Now it was really in her court, if she wanted to down this road or look for an easy cop out.
She nodded with uneasy smile. “I see.” She moved uneasy with her hands. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear. She wasn’t sure how things would change. She needed to stay focused. “Listen, Dom, I really don’t know what we were suppose to do here.”
Dom felt a little devastated by her tone. It was the not the response he wanted but it was a response he was expecting. How only had a few seconds to think, how to respond to her concerns.
Dom had noticed that Sarah put her hand over her wedding band. Why did she do that, what did it mean? Why was he focusing on this small gesture. Maybe she did it to make him feel better. Dom hated not knowing. There was so much that Dom wanted to say to her, but what was appropriate to say, what was not?
Dom looked at her hands, they were a little defensive, she use to rub her fingers against her knuckles, when she was nervous. Before Dom could speak the waitress came back.
“Here you go darlin” said the waitress as she placed the andorian ale in front of him. Dom wanted to quickly reach for the drink, he knew that Sarah was waiting for a response.
Dom looked briefly at the waitress. “Thank you” said Dom as he handed her his credit chip card, and he said “keep the tab open” said Dom with a smile. He then returned his gaze back to Sarah. The waitress left the table, she noticed that Sarah’s drink was still full.
Dom noticed she looked a little nervous, but he wondered if she was just as lost as him? It had been seven years since they last spoke. Dom had believed then they had said their goodbyes. But it was clear to him now, that he did not. But he can’t erase the past seven years. Time can not heal all wounds, and Dom knew that.
Dom sat directly across from Sarah, this was that critical moment where either they would talk and get resolution or this is the moment where things get awkward and Sarah never talked to Dom again. He was digging deep in his thoughts on what to say next? What do you tell to the woman that you still care for and tell her that you never got over her and the separation is killing him inside?
Dom wanted to sooth her nervous rubbing of her knuckles by taking her hand, however given this situation it would be inappropriate of him to do soo.
Dom thought back to the last time they ever spoke. Dom told her that they were going to be fine, they had their whole lives to live, but his felt empty and now full of regret, and here is the lady that he let go. He had no right to confront her, but here he was, confronting her. Not for her benefit, but for his. This was a real jerkish move on his part.
He was not trying to hurt Sarah or stir up old emotions. He was tired of hurting and his feelings needed to be addressed. But he needed to be careful to be respectful to her feelings as well. Dom only hoped she was ready to talk.
Dom saw Sarah sitting, she was wearing a pleasing outfit, which triggered his memory of that black dress she wore during that special night. Dom’s mind was racing with past images of her and him at the school final dance the prom. They broke up the day after. They made that prom the most special night of their lives. Dom went all out on her, and she returned the favor by making the most of the night. It was a very special night for him and for her. A great way to end their relationship.
Dom wanted to see her warming smile, he hated seeing her nervous smile, despite the fact any look from Sarah, was admiring and irresistible to him. Dom was lost in a the moment that only lasted a few seconds.
But in those few seconds, he was still dancing with Sarah, they were still at prom. He was caught up on memory, a memory he almost did not want to leave, but it was only a memory and he was now with her in this very moment. He had a chance to make a new memory.
He wanted to ask her so desperately, if she ever thought of him, again he was hesitant to ask. Sarah was now married, happily as far as he knew. In human nature it was not always socially polite to ask questions that make us feel uncomfortable.
Life so much simpler that night, thought Dom as his mind wandered back to prom, it was the last time he was happy. Dom has had a pretty good career in the D.F.S., but his career only feels partially complete. For a long time, he was not sure why. Now recently it was becoming clear why. He had no one to share the accomplishments with it.
No one to talk too, and it was all his fault, none of it was Sarah. It was all his his fault, Dom never imagined it, until it was gone, that Dom felt that Sarah was a his soulmate. But she was now gone, even though she was sitting across from him.
Dom needed to play this cool, keep his emotions in check, get her to be more responsive to him. Things were awkward between them at the moment. He finally spoke out, he hoped it was the right thing to say.
“I was hoping we could talk, I am not expecting anything more than that” said Dom hoping that Sarah, liked his response, granted he was stalling on what he had to tell her. “Mable was suppose to meet us hear, so this would not be so awkward” said Dom as he tried to smile, it was hard. His feelings were now shared with her, and he was vulnerable. He hated this feeling. He was trying to joke around the woman he onced loved, but still cared deeply for.
Sarah took up her glass and then put it back down. “Well,” She began, “We are adults, so I am pretty sure whatever it is we can work this out. No harm in talking right?” She finally picked up her glass and took a sip from it.
Dom smiled, mainly because she did. He loved to see her smile. He had imagined her smiling for so long in his memories, but to see a smile on her face was very gratifying. “Ya, no harm in talking” said Dom as he reached over for his andorian ale and took a sip. The drink was very potent. Dom felt himself stalling again.
He debated on changing the topic from him and redirect it back on her. Normally this is what he would do if he was talking to anyone else, but this was different. This situation in his mind and with his heart, needed to be resolved.
“I’m lost because, I wanted to see you, I know we talked in the past about breaking all ties, but honestly I missed you” said Dom as he was regretting not having Mable here. It would have been less awkward thought Dom. He as he felt his heart tighten, he was very nervous. This was very hard for him to say. Sometimes the hardest things in life to say are not always the easiest! He placed his feelings out, in a way hopefully, Sarah would be perceptive too.
Sarah put her drink down. She put her drink down. She opened her mouth to say something. She just ended up laughing a bit nervous. Finally she said, “Sorry, I...I don’t know what to say. To be honest I haven’t thought about you for a while. Been so busy...work...getting married...Maybe...it’s been harder than I thought. “
“Sounds like it, for you” said Dom. He was okay with the fact that she moved on, he just needed to move on himself. “I am very happy for you, I am” said Dom as he tried to reassure himself. It was hard, a part of him was happy, a bigger part of him was sad. He was going through an emotional struggle.
Sarah put her hand on Dom’s hand. We had something special back then, it’s not something you just walk away from. Just try to….” she sighed. “Be open for new possibilities..” She looked at her ring. She knew she wasn’t happy where she was at, but it was business. And her mother taught business was business. She looked back up at him and just smiled.
Dom felt the soft skin of Sarah’s hand touch his, he felt a little awkward and yet soothing and somewhat familiar. He really liked hearing that she agreed they had something special. He wanted to grab her hand, but he did not want to push to strong.
“We said that to each other seven years ago, we placed our careers ahead of our feelings, my superiors say I am on a fast track to getting my own ship, but I will share this with you, without someone to share your feelings with, it seems ½ empty. I am happy you found love and are able to share your success with your husband, I choose to marry the service in a way, so you are the closest thing I had to a best friend” said Dom.
“I miss being your friend” said Dom. He really did not have anyone to share the news with. Dom was not as forth coming or open with his fellow shipmates, he heard what Sarah said about being open to new possibilities. Where would he even begin, he sat in his chair, debating on another sip from his andorian ale.
Sarah took her drink and downed it all at once. “Anytime…” She said as she motioned to the waitress for another drink. “Love...heh… I guess. It’s all been for this career. Not sure if love had anything to do with it.” She took another sip as soon as the drink touched the table.
“You did not marry for love” asked Dom, he was a little shocked. But on the same token, he understood her passion for politics. He knew that she had a real passion for changing the universe, and he believed she could.
She was so much stronger than him, and he was a little envious of that. Dom is not sure if he would marry out of love, there would have to be a big political reason, for him to even consider it. “My apologies, that was rude of me, please don’t answer that” said Dom. It was not his place to judge her.
“Let’s have a toast” said Dom as he slid his hand away from her’s. “To our careers” said Dom as he raised his glass on andorian ale.
“Here here!” Said Sarah. As she hit his glass with hers. She took another sip. “This is nice. I am glad to have a friend like you.”
Dom grinned as he grabbed his drink and slammed it. Hell with it thought, let's get hammered. He knew he needed to loosen up, he was picking up on the cue from Sarah. The waitress came over to the table again. With a big grin.
“More like it, you two we depressing to look at” stated the waitress.
“Well let’s fix that” said Dom with a grin, as he looked to waitress and then to Sarah.
“What you got in mind darlin” asked the waitress.
“We need loud music, where is the nightclub feel to this place” asked Dom.
“You want to party it up, coming up” said the waitress, as she walked over to the bar and turned on edgy music, the lights lowered and people started to cheer a few got up and started to dance.
The waitress walked back over to their table. “should I keep the rounds coming”
“Oh hell ya” said Dom as she placed two more drinks on the table and walked away. He did not care that her comment was a little negative. He was going to have a great time, even if it killed him or a major hangover in the morning.
Dom felt the drink burning down his throat. He was not hard core drinker. He assumed Sarah as a politician probably had a few drinking sessions in her past, all in the name of her career. “To friendship” said Dom as he clicked his glass to her’s and took a decent swig of the andorian ale.
Sarah was laughing “Wow, you’re going all out.” She downed another glass. She got up. “Lets party like we did at the prom!” She grabbed his hand and pulled him up.
“Okay a little fast” said Dom with a teasing tone. “Shouldn’t we least wait” asked Dom, he did not know if her husband was on the ship. He did not know, that he was not. As much as he wanted to get on the floor, he wanted to build up a little more courage.
Knowing Sarah the way he did, he doubt she would let him get away with that. When she wanted to dance, they were going to dance. Dom grabbed another sip, as he reached down to drink and slammed it down.
“Oh come on, Dom,”Said Sarah.” Why wait? Wait for what?”
She dragged him out to the floor, he was looking at his table as the waitress placed another round at the table. He his only concern now was, if her husband was going to stop by, but why was he not worried about this earlier when they embracing each other's hands?
“Is this wise” asked Dom in concerned tone.
Sarah smiled. “Don’t worry, live a little!” She put her arms around his shoulders. “Tomorrow isn’t promised, and it’s just a dance.”
“Right til you're husband picks a fight with me out here on the dance floor” said Dom. His tone was not so playful. He kept a small separation between their bodies, he was trying to be more respectful in nature.
“He’s not even on the ship. I am sure he is having fun right now as well. I just don’t know what her name is this time.” Sarah laughed as she put her hands on his back and pulled him against her.
Their bodies embraced, Dom thought it was a little forward but he would be lying if he said he did not like it. He looked straight into her eyes and could tell that she wanted to play, who was he to deny her, plus he did not want too.
The beat picked up on the floor. “Do you remember this” asked Dom as he twirled Sarah from his arms and began to do a more intimate dance form. Dom started to salsa dance with her. He wanted to see if she would let him. She wanted to dance closely, well this was their chance to do dance real close.
“Yes….” She followed his moves closely. “Good times..” she said. She hadn’t felt this loose in a while. She just hadn’t the right person to do it with.
The two them danced like they were one, it was surprising that neither of them were missing a beat. Sarah and Dom were both twirling around to the beat, with Dom slightly leading the dance movies between them. For a moment nothing mattered, he was happy and she appeared to be happy, he felt like a kid again.
The moment was amazing thought Dom. They continued to dance for a few more minutes, the song’s beat started to sift, and the salsa style was not going to work with the new beat. He was also a little thirsty, and he had a fresh drink at their table.
“I’m a little thirsty” suggested Dom.
Sarah nodded. “Yes, I could use a drink myself.” She walked back to the table and sat down. She waved her hands to cool down. “We still got it.” She brushed her hair back. “Something with ice I think.” Said Sarah.
The waitress walked up, Dom noticed her coming. He slammed his drink down fast, again his throat burned a little from the sensation.
“Another round of ale, darlin” asked the waitress as she looked to Sarah.
“Scotch with ice please.” Sarah said.
“And for you darlin” asked the waitress.
“I’ll have the same” suggested Dom with a grim. As he started to perspire a little. He was wearing cologne and deodorant so he was okay. He thought Sarah looked amazing that black skin tight dress of her’s very flattering.
Sarah bend over and took of her shoes. “Wow, I am almost beat. Haven’t had this much fun in ages. Political parties is a lot of boos, and not much moves. If you want some stiff people, that’s where you should go.” She leaned over to Dom. “Thanks.”
“Not a problem” said Dom, as noticed the waitress approaching them. Man she was fast.
The waitress came back with two scotches on the rocks. She placed them on the table. Sarah was still leaned into the seat, he tried not look at the obvious in front of him. Her small frame was a nice and she had a great body with great features. Dom grabbed his drink and raised it for a toast.
“Some things never change, you're still one hell of dancer” in a teasing voice said Dom. She was still able to move her body and make it look classy with a hint of sexiness. He raised his glass and clanged it against hers. He took a sip, he thought to himself, wow this drink was stronger! He hoped he did not regret going to a stronger drink.
Sarah drank the scotch as well. “Yea..and some things do.” She looked in the glass. “And something never do.” She put her glass down. “So now what?”
“I was hoping to dance the night away” said Dom sounding a little sappy. It could be the three drinks talking but he was feeling really good right now. This was the perfect moment for him and he did not want the night to end.
“Sounds like a plan.” Sarah was feeling it too. “Let’s do it then.”
Dom grabbed her by the hand and gently walked her back to the dance floor by this time the beat changed to something he could work with and the two of the started to dance again. The of them were dancing as one, he was being very respectful in the dance by keeping his hands in appropriate places every time she twirled by him he would reposition her wither by their fingers or by her waist line, making sure to pay close attention to where he was placing his hands.
They danced for a while. Dom did not want the night to come to an end. He was having way to much fun. Sarah’s moves were very stimulating for him and probably for the small audience that started to watch the young senator dancing with some officer on the dance floor.
They had drawn a small crowd. Dom did not mind the attention, but he wondered if she did. He leaned in closer to speak to her.
“Is this normal” asked Dom. He was not use to anyone paying attention to him, but then again he did not dance on a regular basis.
Sarah looked around a bit. “They are just looking for sensation. Let’s try not to leave together in the same direction.”
The danced for a a few more songs. The man controlling the music announced that he would be slowing down the music down for the last two song. The night was coming to an end. Dom could not believe it was already 2am.
“I’ve had a great night” said Dom, as he started to walk to his table. He did not know if it would be appropriate for them to slow dance, despite the fact they had been doing the salsa and other sexually arousing forms of dancing.
Sarah followed. She picked up her shoes looking all flushed and tired. “Well, I think this is my cue to go.” She smiled. “I had a great time, thank you, Dom.” She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek and then threw the shoes over her shoulders and walked away.
Dom had a big smile on his face, he was not expecting a kiss on the cheek. And he loved how she walked with a little soul in her step, she was teasing him with her curves and he deserved it, the whole night was tension release, he could tell that she was also happy with this night. He hoped that Sarah would do the classic look over her shoulder bit before leaving ten forward.
Even though she did not turn around, he felt a connection. At least they were friends again! That mattered to him. He felt a big sigh of relief pour over him. So much for talking the night away, the ended up dancing the night away. This night has changed him, and he knew it.

{{D.F.S. Lavie, Sickbay}}
Sarissa was just completing her morning rounds. Walking back through sickbay on the way to the CMO’s office, she sat back behind her desk and started on PADDwork. The pomegranate bonsai tree was growing again and she would need Kirin to come and trim it. She had tried and hadn't gotten the technique down. An ensign stepped through the door and gestured, “Right this way doctor, Doctor Sarissa should be right through there.” Amiri entered the sickbay with hir two obedient canids in tow. S/he looked around the spartan room to see if anyone was around. Crossing to a biobed, s/he hefted Luuna up onto it. “Hello?” “My apologies. I am Dr. Sarissa. Are you our impending Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Aldana?” Sarissa being Vulcan did stand for the greeting, but did not extend her hand. Aldana noticed the subordinate doctor was Vulcan, so resisted giving hir typical greeting. “Apology accepted. That would be an adequate assumption, I be s/he. I was told we needed to get checked out before we could start. This is Luuna, she wants to go first.” Luuna scented the air, making her appraisal of the stranger. She’d found in her experience those ‘relaxed ones’ with pointy ears were usually trustworthy. She lowered her guard a little, besides Alpha often said these ones dressed in colors like Alpha were safe. Sombra found some space under the table and lay down out of the way. He sensed Alpha was fine for the moment, though he was close if Alpha needed him. ~“It’s ok girl you can stand down, this doctor is just going to check you out.”~ The words were dually spoken and projected to Luuna. When spoken toward a non-humanoid animal the voice didn’t sound all together smooth and normal, yet it might be considered soothing and pleasant to the ear. “Of course.” In a practiced manner, Sarissa retrieved instruments and walked over to the biobed. “Any recent ailments or concerns I should be aware of?” “I think they’re both due for booster vaccines. If you’d like to administer them?” the hybrid doctor mentioned. She also had to consult the database as Amiri was a mix of beings she wasn’t totally familiar with. Checking the records she, she grabbed a pair of hyposprays and vials retrieved from a nearby cabinet. Luckily they were on hand. (and what is a canid?) (generic for canine-like animal, including foxes. Luuna and Sombra are just non-earth domestic canine-types more or less just a dog. Think German Shepherd) Sarissa flipped open a medical tricorder. Scanner in hand and took several passes with it over each canid in detail “Luuna’s, teeth, skin, glands… all normal. I see no issues. I will need to run my hands over her for a physical inspection. Would that be acceptable?” Sarissa asked. Aldana shared the information with Luuna and asked her permission. S/he then looked at the other doctor and nodded. “She consented.” Sarissa ran her skilled hands over the canid in a practiced manner, her training in comparative biology kicking in at last. Most of what she did recently was humanoid anatomy. No lesions, abrasions, lumps, or other abnormalities. Lifting the dog’s lips, she checked the teeth and gums. “All perfectly normal. Sombra next.” Sarissa stated. Then added, “The age of each Luuna and Sombra? Sarissa added. Aldana lifted Luuna gently to the floor, and switched her for Sombra placing him now on the biobed. S/he explained to Sarissa that the dogs were littermates and only a few minutes or hours apart, and told her how old they were. S/he gently instructed the male to stand still both verbally and mentally. Sarissa repeated her exam for the other animal. She had to admit the fur was soft and somehow more soothing than she expected. It reminded her somewhat of her old selat. “No abnormalities.” Looking in the eyes and eyelids, then she checked out the teeth and gums. “They are healthy as are you.” My apologies. It seems my nasal suppressors are less than efficient today.” Sarissa rubbed her nose and reached for a tissue. Sombra shifted, and tried to nuzzle the brown pointy-eared lady. Sarissa was slightly surprised by the unexpected contact. When Sarissa ignored Sombra, the nudge came again, more insistent this time. “I’m sorry, he doesn’t normally misbehave like this, unless…” ~What is it?~ ~The lady not happy, it is small, she resists good, but she needs me.~ “…Unless he’s being willfully disobedient and alerting to something. What is it?” “I would suspect that it might be alerting to an old memory, a former pet I had as a child.” “A pet?” ~No.~ Sombra said, nuzzling Sarissa again, trying to encourage her to pet him. “Sombra says it’s more than that,” Aldana stated. “It was a pet that I cared a great deal for. It died protecting me in the Forge. “These two are much like that. Their breed is specifically protective. That sounds like a traumatic experience. Do you wish to talk with me about what happened? Or Sombra is a good listener too, and he won’t talk about it… not even to me.” “It was a very long time ago. With the crew dealing with the repercussions of that last battle.” Sarissa offered. “Last battle?” Aldana allowed the distraction Sarissa seemed to be using to work for now. The FSF (Faith Special Forces) attacked this ship in number. The outcome nearly destroyed us, as well as the loss of another ship that came to our aid. Had it not been for the gems we had the casualties would have been greater. Aldana’s tiny inner Ferengi woke up, “Gems?” Meanwhile s/he gently lifted Sombra down and lay on the biobed hirself, so the Vulcan doctor could perform her scans on hir. As Sarissa did a thorough scan of the officer, she told her story. “A brief summary may be in order. We lost a number of crewmembers. It hit the Captain harder than anyone. The gems we saw were of particular use and I saw things healed that would have taken surgery and rehabilitation or even stopping death, long enough for us to save the life.” She retrieved a small blue gem and showed it to the doctor as Sarissa started to complete the scans of hir. Amiri cocked hir head, and Luuna craned her neck to see in order to be sure it wasn’t a threat. ~Peace young one. It's just a shiny.~ Amiri didn’t always speak out loud to hir companions in order to keep from interruptions. “Any complaints or ailments? Chronic pain or inflammations?” Sarissa asked hir. “Hold on, I’ll check.” Amiri spoke with hir companions, both shook their heads. “None mentioned, but as mentioned before, some of our vaccinations need boosters.” Amiri noted. Finishing scans, Sarissa offered, “you are in good health.” Turning around, she grabbed items off of the nearby tray. After loading up the hyposprays, Sarissa walked over and lay a hand on Sombra first, and injected each hypospray in turn, then turned to do the same to Luuna. Sarissa thought for a second and asked, “what about yourself Doctor?” Aldana blushed. “I’m sorry, you’re right of course. You’ll find I often think of my companions and others before myself.” S/he thought for a moment. “I can’t recall any complaints recently. However, because I do tend to deal with non-humanoid animals also in my field more often than others do, I could use at least a rabies booster. Are there any other local pathogens I need to be inoculated for?” “Nothing I have been made aware of. I will make it a point to see if we can obtain that information from the local government.” Now done Sarissa lay the blue gem in Aldana’s hand. “Oh my, I’m not sure I’ve seen anything quite like this. What is it?” “This is a water gem. I have been studying it with little to show for it. When we have the opportunity, I will demonstrate. Amazing though it almost strikes me as magic, though my Vulcan mind says it's just unknown technology. Other colors can do other things. Red for fire, yellow for air, and so on.” “It’s not just an ordinary sapphire? Where did they come from? This healed some of the crew?” Sarissa offered, “no… and they have some mind component as they crew has been able to use other colors for weapons. I do not know the origins, but Kirin Dragmawl has been instructing others in their use.” “What do you mean, ‘mind component?’” “From the way I understand it, you can’t just touch the gem to the wound. You have to think about the healing. No specific thoughts that I am aware of, generalities from my observations.” Sarissa commented. “Hmm… Perhaps I will have to give this… Mister Dragmawl a visit soon.” On the floor now, Sombra nudged Alpha, he wanted to get back to the root of what was bothering the brown lady. “I see Sombra is still focused on something” Sarissa offered, then added, “is there something I can do to assist you?” Aldana looked down at the pooch for a moment and they had a silent exchange. S/he looked back up at Sarissa, “Sombra is ‘alerting’ he’s indicating he can smell something is… unusual about the chemical balance in your brain and in his experience indicates there is something you want to tell him about.” Sarissa became thoughtful for a moment or two. “Vulcans are very… private individuals. In this case, perhaps a slight exception should be given. When I was a small child, we had a pet Sehlat. The best description is large brown bear but with 20.32 centimeter fangs. Many Vulcan families have them, though they tend to be smaller than the wild Sehlats. I had wandered into the Forge. A large desert area, and very inhospitable. My Sehlat Dvir followed me. I was attacked by a wild Sehlat and barely survived. She did not survive the attempt. Since then, I have been……avoiding contact with what I consider pets. The contact with Sombra triggered a memory I was unprepared for. It was a good memory. I could… share the thought if he wanted.” “You may not know, I am also a veterinarian, I’ve worked on Sehlats before. If it helps,” Doctor Aldana crouched to ruffle both of the dogs’ ears, “starfleet doesn’t consider these two to be pets.” S/he looked up at Doctor Sarissa again, “but if you ever need to ‘borrow’ Sombra for something and/or tell him about your day or something, he is encouraged never to tell me anything someone else shares in confidence.” Meanwhile Amiri silently conferred with Sombra. “I will need to touch parts of Sombra’s face for a few moments.” Sarissa explained. “He wants to know if it will hurt. I know it won’t, but better to hear it from you.” Sarissa commented, “It will be completely painless. You will feel nothing except what I felt during my memories. “Would it be easier to set him back up on the table again? I can put him in a ‘down’ too, so he is comfortable and more relaxed for the procedure.” “This will only take a brief moment, but I need a second to complete preparations.” The Vulcan doctor commented. Once she was prepared, Sarissa kneeled down and gently reached up to touch Sombra’s face. Three fingers splayed out on the muzzle, temple and near the left ear. Sarissa sent the childhood memory. A very large red Sehlat appeared and licked the child’s face. There were memories of Dvir (Crimson Shadow), running and playing with a very young Sarissa. Then the image of the two curled up together at night, the small Vulcan girl wrapped in long dark red fur, similar to a blanket. At the end was Sarissa, weeping as the wounded Sehlat breathed it’s last after saving Sarissa’s life. Then the love she had for lost companion and later as she grew, the pride, though an emotion, that she felt at its sacrifice for her. The link broken she stood back up. Turning to Amiri, Sarissa offered, “I do not mind if the memory is shared between the three of you, but I would prefer it to go no further.” Sombra whimpered and nuzzled the brown pointy eared lady. The best he could do for a hug. “Consider it patient/doctor privilege.” Aldana promised. The dogs nodded.

Kirin Dragmawl Sarissa Slane Diego Ramirez (NPC) and other Marines Aug 20, 4566 (just after midnight)
Sarissa walked into the bar. It was late at night. There were a few patrons, soft jazz played over the com and the lighting was low but not so low that you would run into things. Padded chairs and plastic/metal tables were scattered around the room. She glanced around to see where she wants to sit.
kirin notice Sarissa walk in and says to her, "may i escort you to your seat mam." Walking over to her once beside her putting his arm out bent in offering her a peaceful day. (edited)
"That would be acceptable." She answered.
"Would you like a comfortable seat to relax after being on your feet for long periods of time or just a casual day off? That will help me with where to seat you."
"I do not understand the difference. The chairs are deeper so logically, that was the first choice. Where would the second choice be?" Sarissa asked. "Some of the chairs have cushion to sit on that feels like you are on a cloud, others are normal chairs that are steel and after a while you are tired of sitting on it because it starts to hurt."
"Then perhaps it is time to requisition some newer items. Something someone could sit on and not require my services in Medical." Sarissa responded. Then added. "The more cushioned chair would be appropriate."
Kirin replies, "very well madam" walks her over to a swivel chair that has memory foam like look but it is the latest polyurethane and leather. kirin says to Sarissa, "the chairs has many features that you might enjoy one is a massage your upper, lower, or thighs mode, or full body message. it has a cup holder and a extendable tray like table from the side. There is a heating feature for those charlie horses and aching muscle if needed."
"is there anything i can get for you today" kirin asks "Do you have Vulcan port?" Sarissa asked.
Kirin replies, "i believe we do let me check. how large or small would you like for it to be." Kirin walks over to the bar and looks around for it
A small group of Marines walks in and saddles up to the bar. They joke with each other in a loud and boisterous manner.
"Barkeep!" One slams his hand on the solid wood.
Kirin startled saying, "yes sir"
"Tequila shots. We want two each." Their speech was slightly slurred.
"May i ask how many have you had already and if you would like 2 shots per shot glass or 2 normal shots?" while still looking for the Vulcan port
"We want.." One turns to look at the other, as they start whispering to each other, 'two normal shotz."
Kirin brings out two shot glasses and pours them half a shot glass for each and puts the bottle back then finds the vulcan port, kirin says, "Sarissa i found it, sorry for the wait."
She nodded. "I do not understand the attraction in consuming a substance they know will impair them past the point of common decency."
"Would you like for me to leave the bottle while you relax sarissa?" He was keeping a eye on the marines in case they were doing anything shady. Sarissa contemplated the thought and accepted. "Thank you, that would be acceptable." As she took the small dainty glass and sipped, a medium sized Marine in full duty uniform strode in, walking straight up the pair of rowdy guests. "I guess you thought you'd be slick and sneak out. Finish your drinks now....or in the brig. Your choice. The pair stiffened visibly and sobered immediately. Rapidly shooting their drinks, they sheepishly walked out the way they came in.
He turned to Kirin. "Sorry about that." He tapped his combadge. "Corporal Goldman, let me know if those two don't make it back." Turning back to Kirin, he said. "Whatcha serving tonight?"
Kirin replies, "It is ok. That happens. What is your poison for drinks?" (edited)
Sgt Ramirez replied, "it is not okay, trying to keep the Ice Queen from training them to death." Indicating Persephone Larson.
"We have a house special today if you like to try it. Irish whiskey and merlot together." Kirin replies
"That....sounds harsh, I'll take a dark beer, nothing fancy, unless you have a nice tequila. No rocket fuel. It would have to be Tequila Extra Anejo." (at least 3 years old)
Kirin makes up a Tequila Extra Anejo with three olives in it.
Ramirez visibly scowled. "You must be new at this."
"I am, how was i supposed to make it?" Kirin replies
"If it's a shot., you serve it with limes and a salt shaker. I take it tequila is not your thing. So we don't waste this awesome liquor. give me a glass with bloody mary mix and a dash of hot sauce, no vodka. Going to make a Bloody Maria. Tomato juice, worcestershire, etc. Do you have limes?" Diego asked?
"Yes we do have Limes would you like it to be extra sour or just normal." kirin says while looking for the imes
Diego laughed. "The limes are for teaching you proper tequila etiquette. Slice the lime into 4 small wedges and pour two new shots. Just the Anejo." (edited)
"This isn't going to work. I need to be back there." Diego came around and moved next to Kirin. He sliced the lime into wedges. Grabbing a glass he wet the rim, and flipped it into a nearby salt rimmer bowl. The olive shot went into it, and he added bloody mary mix and a couple of dashes of hot sauce. A quick slice and one the wedges went into the the rim. "Just like that. You should taste it. This is called a Bloody Maria. Bloody mary is vodka, usually no hot sauce. My dad works in resorts down in Mexico."
"Oh so that is how you make it." Kirin comments.
"Now... I wanted a shot, which is very popular. It's quick and easy. He slid one of the shots in front of Kirin. "There is a small sequence to this." He licked he hand where the thumb and forefinger meet and sprinkled some salt. "You lick the salt, do the shot quickly, then bit the lime."
kirin_dragmawl [11:39 PM] (so kindof like from the big bang theory)
tugar [11:42 PM] (that;s a tequila shot, just don't expect the lime in Diego's mouth)
Diego licked the salt, downed the shot, and bit the lime in a quick succession of movement. He savored the burn of the aged liquor. Strong but smooth. "Now you Jefe."
"Jefe? what you mean by jefe would you mean try to?" Kirin asked, not familiar with the term.
"Do what I did. El Jefe means boss. I use it as a sign of respect. Lick the salt, do the shot, bite the lime."
Kirin tries to replicate it. puts salt on his wrist then licks it off then does a shot of tequila and bit the lime. "ahhh it burns like needles going down your throat."
Diego chuckled. "Few alcohols don't burn. It'll pass hefe. Most people adapt to it over time. You think this is bad? This is good tequila, for replicated."
"I never said it was bad it just burns the skin, it kinda taste like a fireball or a greygoose." Kirin offers.
"Yes, that's true." Diego added. "If I were you, I would keep a PADD handy or load some recipes on my VX if you have one."
"sure i will do that later when i head back to my room" Kirin replies
"Thanks for the drink Jefe."

Doctor Amiri Aldana 365 D.V.M., M.D. Luuna and Sombra (PNPCs) & Captain Yuka Layton 19 August 4566 sometime after 1700 D.F.S. Lavie, Sickbay/Aldana’s Quarters/Bridge/Yuka and Aidan’s Quarters Doctor Aldana had just gotten hir approval for duty from Doctor Sarissa. S/he had been informed s/he needed to make one final stop. S/he just wasn’t sure where he’d be at this hour. “Computer, locate Captain Layton.” At this point in time Yuka was in her quarters getting ingredients for the dinner she was going to cook for her and Aidan from the replicator and preparing them for cooking. The computer simply responded “Captain Layton is in her quarters”. Yuka had yet to meet the doctor and was planning to meet hir during the morning shift in her ready room; that is unless; somehow they met in some other fashion… Though now it would be off-duty time for her so it might not be the most useful time; even if she could use help cutting and preparing ingredients. Yuka had the belief that home cooked food was better than things replicated even though there was no difference it was something she took from her culture that there was love behind cooking a home cooked meal for someone.
The doctor considered this for a moment. Considering the time perhaps now wasn’t the best time, despite the fact Aldana was wide awake and usually preferred third shift if it wasn’t an emergency. Perhaps now wasn’t the best time for hir to pay hir respects to the captain. “Computer, who is the duty shift C.O. and where are they located?” Meanwhile Amiri knelt and stroked each of hir canids and ruffled their ears. ~“Do you two want to go exploring tomorrow if we’re free?”~ Sombra broke into a panting canid smile. Luuna wagged her tail lightly. ~“The Lieutenant Colonel forgot to give us our assigned quarters, perhaps we could also contact Ops. next.”~ The computer responds “The current duty officer is Lt. Col. Aidan Thornton. He is located on the bridge.”
“That’s funny, he was in the shuttlebay not to long ago. Nevertheless…” Aldana boarded a turbolift and called for the bridge. S/he looked to Luuna, ~one dog on the bridge might be pushing people’s comfort levels a bit…”~ just then the turbolift deposited the trio on the bridge and the doors parted. “Down. Stay.” S/he gestured to Sombra as s/he stepped out on the bridge. “Colonel?” Several minutes later, the doctor stepped back onto the turbolift with the location of hir new quarters, and the location of the captain’s quarters, with the suggestion s/he might visit. S/he called for waste extraction first. After stopping off to let the canids ‘out’ Aldana continued on to hir quarters in order to drop off Luuna. S/he accessed the display screen and brought up something called K-90-V (K-9-TV) and faced it to where Luuna could see it from the sofa. “Computer, secure quarters for ‘pet mode’ one large canid. Allow access to the bedroom.” The Kazarite hybrid replicated one bowl of Luuna’s favorite water before leaving and placed it on the floor. ~Try and relax, we’ll be back before you know it.~ It wasn’t too long before Amiri found hirself outside hir new captain’s quarters. Tugging and straightening hir uniform – Sombra at hir heel – s/he activated the alert tone. Yuka was in the middle of putting ham inside of chicken as part of making chicken cordon bleu. She stopped for a moment wondering who would be at the door at this time of the evening; she was not expecting Aidan for a few more hours at least. She came to the door and opened it. She was in a white dress with her hair tied in the back so it did not get in the food. She was also wearing a white apron. She does not recognize the person who is there but sees them in a uniform. “Lieutenant? What can I do for you” She asked.”
“Excuse me Captain, I’m Doctor Aldana 365, the XO suggested you might not mind if I wanted to introduce myself yet this evening. I’ve just transferred aboard as your new CMO.” “Ah… The new Doctor I requested… Welcome aboard; how would you prefer I address you… I seem to remember something about that in your personnel file… Come on in… I am just cooking right now; you are welcome to help if you like as we talk or you can just take a seat and we can talk while I continue my preparations.” Yuka replied. Moving out of the way of the door gesturing inside the room. It was probably the largest quarters on the ship being that two of the executive quarters were combined into one giant space.
Aldana wiped hir feet before entering, and Sombra followed suit as they entered. S/he nodded, “Thank you captain, I am humbled by your hospitality.” S/he gazed around. ~On me.~ ~I know.~ ~This is Alpha’s alpha, don’t get distracted. Keep to the floor unless invited.~ “Doctor or Lieutenant Aldana is fine, sir; most people drop the 365, and I’m not to worried about it. I usually only use it on formal documents like some peoples middle initial. What are you making, sir?” Yuka nodded noticing the dog with hir. She looked down at the dog and then says to Aldana “Do you mind if I greet your little friend here… In my time it is not appropriate to acknowledge service animals unless told to or they are “off-duty” because their purpose is to serve their handler… I am making chicken cordon bleu, veggies and scallop potatoes along with strawberry lemonade. I have been told that I am a pretty good cook… I had to learn it from living on my own for so long you know.” Yuka explained.
~“Would you like to meet the captain Sombra?”~ Sombra panted a canid version of a smile; tongue lolling out, relaxed. “Please, let him investigate the back of your open hand first, and if you would it helps to get down on his level.”
“Sure; that is how they tell you to greet dogs where I am from… People just do not follow it very well.” Yuka knelt down and moved the back of her hand slowly making eye contact with the dog. “Hi there!” She said cheerfully to Sombra.
Sombra looked down, he was rather uncomfortable with the direct eye contact, but he was a little used to by now. He sniffed cautiously at the offered hand though, and gave a tentative lick. He then offered his chin for petz. A slightly submissive gesture. Aldana chuckled at something offered to hir unheard. “He wants to know who hurt you.” S/he smiled sheepishly. “He notices small details, I think he can tell you’ve had some ocular corrective-ness, but he doesn’t know that’s all it is. I apologize sir.” Yuka moved her hand to pet Sombra’s chin lightly seeing how he reacted; depending upon the reaction she went a little bit harder or stayed at that strength. Once Aldana responded Yuka replied. “My eyes… So nobody hurt me presay… A fire damaged my left eye to the point where it had to be removed… In my home we did not have the technology to replace it so they just gave me a prosthetic eye. Basically they made a specially crafted glass eye that looks like my other eye. “Once I got here they replaced my left eye and corrected the nearsightedness I had in my right eye… I used glasses before but I do not anymore obviously… I am still learning how to use my left eye little-by-little but I can do everything everyone else can… There are just slight things I need to practice and I do exercises with my left eye moving it around; opening it… Things like that. Probably more detail then I needed to go into but seeing as you serve Aldana and s/he is right here it is good for both of you to know.” Yuka said addressing Sombra when answering the question validating the dog’s concern for Yuka’s problem by responding to the dog directly.
Amiri admired the commander’s (lowercase as in generic ‘someone who is in command of something’ not uppercase Commander as in rank) respect for Sombra. S/he felt a bit of humility over Captain Layton’s behavior, and a knot swelled in hir throat for a moment. “Thank you captain, Sombra and I appreciate you treating him like another intelligent adult and not a puppy, or a 3-year-old.” Amiri crossed over to where the food was being prepared. “You’ll forgive him if Sombra is a bit… perceptive on occasion. Now, about your culinary task. What may I help with?” S/he eyed the ‘meat,’ and prayed it was replicated not actually something that had a life and thus a ‘voice.’ Yuka nodded in response “All things and creatures deserve respect… Look at our AI as an example; she became a person and yet she was the ship only two months ago… I think she has developed quite well for only being a person for such a short time. Plus service dogs do a wonderful job caring for their masters; all that bugs me is when people take their pet and try to say it’s a service animal. There are people with real problems who need the help of a little friend and to deny them that just because you ((As in some person not Aldana; pretty sure it's made clear by the dialog but yeah)) want your dog to be in the shopping mall with you. Eh… sorry… I’m a bit preachy about that kind of stuff…” Yuka replied and then changed her focus.
She entered the kitchenette following Aldana and looked at the preparations. “If you could help with the veggies and potatoes…. I’ve got the chicken… Don’t worry everything is replicated…” Yuka responded picking up a change in hir demeanor upon looking at the chicken. “Actually captain, I prefer it that way. You might not be aware, but I can sense the thoughts and communications of everything within the animal kingdom. My father’s race are mostly vegan. I myself don’t like to stand out too much, so I will eat meat, but only if it’s from out of a replicator or synthesized DNA grown in a lab instead of a womb.” S/he got to work on the vegetables. Sombra kept close to Alpha as s/he moved into the room, but he made himself scarce by curling up under the work table.
The two of them got to work on preparing the food that Yuka and Aidan would later eat. Yuka taught hir little secrets she had learned from cooking for herself since most folks in this time used replicators or other devices to generate their food the art of cooking seemed lost so she wanted to pass on her knowledge. Time passes and the meal is nearly prepared by the time they are done.
“Well I still have other preparations to make for the evening; it is getting sort of late; did you need anything else from me tonight; oh and obviously since I am not on duty we can save the formalities for the morning… I will call you to meet at around 1000 hours so we can go over some formalities and all that; okay?” Yuka asked Aldana.
It wasn’t long before Amiri finished the task. All the food was starting to smell good and s/he regretted having to had turned down dinner, but Sombra was getting close to his limit tonight, and s/he explained that Sombra and Luuna needed to be fed and walked too. “Understood captain, I will anticipate your call,” s/he said standing in the doorway again, Sombra attached to hir as if by tractorbeam. “Have a good night and see you in the morning then Lt. Aldana.” Yuka said and then waved to Sombra “And you have a wonderful night too friend.” She then got to setting up the table and all the other things she had to get done for the night she had planned. “Yes, sir.”

DFS Lavie, Luna Class Mk IV Destroyer Flight Deck Operations Center 08/20/4566, 0700 hours
The room was full of commotion. This operations center was the secondary hart of the DFS Lavie. The Captain controlled the bridge and made the overall top decision, but in this room, Dom had the difficult task of monitoring and regulating all the small craft vessels including the mechs in his bay. The new operations center was already online and for the past few days. Today would be the first day that Dom ran the operations for this center, this was a good opportunity for him to prove his command leadership ability.
Dom was only a Lieutenant Junior Grade in rank, but the work he was doing was more comparable for an officer with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Dom had left the mess hall and was ready to work, there was a lot of work ahead of him and he knew it.
This morning according to the roster, 5 mech units were being pulled in for an inspection and pre maintenance checks, two fighters were going to be launched on simulated combat patrols, 3 shuttles were heading down to the planet on various task and this was in the first hour of working. Keeping track of every small craft was no small task. Luckily the destroyer was not a carrier, the number of small craft he was supervising was smaller and easier to keep track of.
Dom walked into the room and made a straight line for the replicator and got himself a coffee. With a good cup of coffee in one hand a data pad in another hand, he walked over to the operations and table and prepared to take command of the facility.
Dom looked at the pad, and then started to look at his crew, especially his AFO, a young Ensign by the name of Julie Summors. She was an attractive young female. But Dom, was not interested in her in that manner. Dom made it a rule never to date a co worker. Dom's heart was still chasing a certain Senator. And after the night they had last night, his desires re sparked in a more positive manner.
"Ensign Summors, I have operations" Said Dom as he made eye contact with Julie Summors. "Yes sir" said Julie, she was so relieved that Dom was here to relieve her of this madness. "Shuttle 3 and 4 are on final approach from the surface, fighter 4 and 5 are still on patrol, fighters 1 and 2 are prepping for lauch with fighter 3 being on alert call" said Julie as she paused for a moment to catch her breath.
Before Julie could respond, Dom took that moment to ask a question. "Are the maintenance bays ready to received the mech units" asked Dom as he continued to read the pad.
"yes sir" simply said Julie.
"Very well, you were saying Ensign" asked Dom, he wanted her to finish her train of thought.
"I was going to mention that to you sir, also the new tie brackets for the MAG's have not been tested outside simulations, Engineering teams are not sure how they will hold up, they asked us to schedule a quarterly maintenance review on them and asked us to report back to them on it" suggested Sarah, who was a little annoyed engineers expected them to do their jobs.
"I hope you told them, they can preform their own maintenance checks" asked Dom.
"No sir, did not want to piss off the Lieutenant" said Julie.
"Ensign, its not small craft issue, then the maintenance requests need to go through the Chief Operations Officer of the Chief Engineer of the DFS Lavie, if they have an issue with that, they can talk to Major Thorton and file a complaint" suggested Dom.
"Understood sir" said Julie. She was happy to see that Dom did not take any slack from a superior officer.
"If we give them an inch, they will take a mile, we do not have time to preform tasks from other departments" said Dom in a stern tone. He wanted her to know he was not joking around.
"Very good sir" said Julie.
"CFO Martinez, fighters 1 and 2 are requesting clearance to land" called out Corporal Brilgor (Tellarite), who was one of the operations centers flight deck controllers.
"CFO I have fighter 1 and 2 in the bay preparing to launch" called out Lance Corporal Jonos Barker (Earthling).
"Advise fighters 4 and 5 to perform a holding patterns, I have three shuttles on final approach and two fighters on standby, the pattern is full at Bay 2" said Dom as he got down to business.
"yes sir" said Corporal Brilgor. As the scene starts to fade.
The day was just getting started, and so far things were going smoothly at flight operations center.

DFS Lavie, Shuttle Bay August 19, 4566, early evening
Offloading was continuing at a brisk pace. It was nice to see the needed supplies. The fresh faced brought a mixture of emotions. Losing crew was hard on everyone, but especially senior staff. Even if you do everything right, the agonizing of already made choices lingered in the mind.
Aidan tried to shake it off and continue with the work. Another shuttle came in and started offloading. It was a mix of personnel and cargo. A bit odd but not unheard. He looked at the PADD and the dwindling number of people that had not checked in yet..
The shuttle Osiris had just docked on the DFS Lavie, and Emily walked off the the shuttle and had ear buds in her ears. She was listening to some music, and bobbing her body to the beat while keeping a duffle bag over her right shoulder as she slowly followed the other officers and enlisted off the shuttle. They all formed a line and Emily was towards the back of the line.
She noticed a slightly older man checking people in. She thought to herself, 'damn he is fine, probably married', she smiled as she got close to the line and popped out her ear buds. With her free hand she handed him a pad. "Ensign Emily Martinez requesting permission to board" said Emily as she snapped to the position of attention and saluted his fine ass.
While standing at the position of attention and waiting for him to respond, her eyes gazed at his physique. He was well built, very well maintained for a man of his stature, she noticed he bore the rank of Major, he had to be ship's first officer. Well there goes any chance for a hook up thought Emily as she fought to keep the grin from showing.
Aidan looked at the PADD, then up again at the face. "Martinez....we already have one of those. Probably a a common enough name, right Ensign?" "Not common enough sir" said Emily. She paused for a moment, then went on to say. "Lieutenant Martinez the CFO is my brother" said Emily, she hoped he would not judge her based on his lack of humor or ability to see past duty and honor. She loved her brother, but she was nothing like him.
"That's....interesting to say the least. It's unusual to place two family members who aren't married on the same ship as casualties have caused tragedy in the past. During an ancient conflict back on Earth, during one of the great wars, five brothers were killed when the enemy torpedoed their ship. After that, it was nearly impossible to have family serve together." He finished checking her in. "I'm sure it's been brought up , but you and the CFO are okay with him being your direct boss and brother?"
"I was told you needed a pilot sir, DFS Command told me to report a board, I have not had a chance to talk to the Lieutenant, spent the last four days with my sister she is the XO on the Essex, I will have plenty of time to catch up with him" said Emily as she took a breath. "I am a capable helmsman sir, my brother is a capable fighter pilot and CFO, I doubt we will see much of each other during duty shifts" suggested Emily.
"Then I am going to be very blunt. I've dealt with my own sibling rivalry in my family. Bringing it here is a non-starter. I will have this same conversation with your brother. I expect professional behavior from everyone. Clear?" Aidan offered.
Emily tried to keep her eyes focused on his rank, focusing on his eyes, was to much of a distraction, plus he was taller than her so it did not look to obvious. "Crystal" simply replied Emily as she tried to keep her composure and not check him out. She was still young, and just graduated the academy, she wanted to venture out a little and party, but sadly she had to report to duty, to early. Typically new officers were given a week to get their affairs in order, she had to do all of that enroute to the DFS Lavie. (edited)
"Good. Is there anything I can do to make you arrival more pleasant?" Aidan asked, with a tease as he noticed her gaze.
Emily wanted to take advantage of that question, her first response was not an appropriate one, she smiled and asked "maybe you can show me around sir, maybe a tour" said Emily in an upbeat tone, her thoughts were getting the best of her, but she maintained a professional demeanor around him, but barely.
"I....will see what I can do. No promises. However, you could look up one of our civilian acquisitions. He might be a little more your speed and available. Niklas Blom." Aidan offered.
Emily did not smile. She felt like he was trying to pass her off. She barely flirted with him, she thought to herself, he is probably in a relationship. His loss and hers too, plus even if he was not, he was still her XO, and there was regulations against that. But a one night stand, could have been fun, ohwell thought Emily. She was not sure who this Niklas Blom was, but she rather make her own decision. "No promises sir, what kind of girl do you think I am" teased Emily. She was only playing around.
Aidan simple helded up his left hand, with the ring on it. "Like I said, VERY flattered and very taken, Ensign. I don't care who has relations with who as long as the work gets done. I was not passing you off. Unless there is anything else, I think we're done here. Dismissed." (edited)
Emily smiled as she sauced by him. "I'll get the work done sir, I'll make you proud" suggested Emily as she strolled out of the shuttle bay. She liked to tease, and she could tell that Aiden her boss, was going to be fun, but she better be careful on how to she played this.

Doctor Amiri Aldana 365 D.V.M., M.D. Luuna and Sombra (PNPCs) & Major Thornton Diane and Myron (PNPCs) 20 August 4566: 01:30 D.F.S. Lavie DFS-02348-A, beach section of the arboretum
Doctor Aldana found hirself in the beach section of the arboretum sprawled out in a lounge chair. Comfortable in hir natural appearance s/he was laying on hir chest working on getting rid of hir tanlines. Hir tail lazily swaying and switching; flip-flopping loosely every which way.
Meanwhile the pooches were running about froliking back and forth with each other. Luuna had managed to discover a large bone with a wad of dried flesh hanging off of it. Sombra was chasing her; both were enjoying a nice game of keep-away. Fortunately the arboretum utilized holo-technology for a large portion setting that was non-foliage.
Aidan let the ‘twins’ – as he called them – off leash. One of the nice things about shipboard duty was that Aidan had programmed the enhanced arboretum for automatic waste removal. As he did so, they were nose to the ground and doing what he liked to call ‘checking pee mail’ though the computer did a near perfect job keeping up. Soon Myron and Diane bolted off towards another pair of large canids. They were in full run before he could stop them.
Sombra had managed to catch up with his sister, and latch onto the other end of the bio matter. The pair were now engaged in a bit of friendly tug-o-war. They began ‘arguing’ boisterously back and forth, each one taking sudden sharp jerks and tugs in an attempt to either tear off manageable hunks of the flesh, or wrench the other end from their sibling’s maw.
Diane and Myron made a beeline to within a meter of the Sombra and Luuna. Myron let out a series of loud barks while Diane stood silently behind him.
Noticing the pair of strange puppies, Luuna dropped the bone. Standing confident she assessed the little cutenesses. Standing tall, with tail back and up slightly, Luuna approached scenting the air.
Meanwhile, Sombra, triumphant in their game, scampered off more focused on the prize, and rather unaware, at the moment, of the recent arrival of whee ones.
Myron approached cautiously, intent on all the new information his senses were received. His ears weren’t back, his tail relaxed and wagging slightly. “You look like a large me.” Diane was more wary, she padded over next to Myron, scenting the arrival.
Luuna stood over the young one to sniff over the male pup. “My Alpha says I am Luuna, I am large because I am older and grown up. Do you know your name?” She sensed the little female’s cautiousness, and did not approach her yet. She gave the she-pup her space as she checked out the male, her own tail wagging high and with greeting.
Suddenly Sombra realized he was alone and no one cared for his victory prancing. He went back to where he last saw his sister, but from a distance he could smell two unfamiliar scents, so approached slowly. Upon noticing they were puppies, he pranced over and yipped, play-bowing. “Puppies!”
Myron sniffed tentatively, then barely squeezed under as he was growing by the minute it seemed. Clumsy and now inquisitive. “You just peed! I need to find out where!” He was off running in a random pattern, nose to the ground. Diane stayed where she was, not trusting Myron’s instincts fully.
Luuna glanced at her brother, “actually I didn’t…” She tried to follow after the male.
Sombra just looked confused, “Maybe he doesn’t know his name.” He went over to the female pup. “What’s wrong little-one? What about you, do you know your name yet? Do you want to play?”
Diane was still leery. “I don’t know you. My dad isn’t here. You stay back.” She growled lightly. In background, Myron ran at full tilt across the park, stopping when a new scent or movement presented itself.
Sombra sat where he was at. In a soft calm voice he responded, “I am called Sombra by our Alpha, my sister Luuna and I only just arrived on this place not too long ago. We’re new here. Our Alpha… our mom/dad brought us here just to explore and get some exercise. We’re just looking for new friends and playmates. Do not be afraid little one, I mean you no harm.
Luuna soon lost track of the strange male pup, but she too caught a scent, just somewhat familiar. She thought she recalled it as ‘betaAlpha, protect level 7,’ she diverted from following the young one to hir own game of ‘seek.’ “Young one, over here, look I found a new scent. Ever play ‘seek?’”
“No! How do you do that?” Myron asked, his tail beating the air like a propeller. Diane meanwhile had lie down on all fours. No advancing or retreating.
Sombra craned his neck trying to scent the air for the little female’s distinct signature. “What does your daddy call you little one?”
Luuna paused and waited for the little adventurer to catch up. “Well instead of going from one strong-scent to another strong-scent randomly you try and find a weak scent and see if you can locate where it is the strongest. It is really more of a game you play with your person, but we can practice it on our own too. Wanna try!?” She play-bowed and yipped once excitedly, her butt and tail high, and wagging almost as much as the pup’s.
Something in Diane’s mind triggered a response. While she didn’t know this ‘Sombra’ every opportunity could be a learning one. She craned her neck in reflection of the adult and scented the air. She was surprised at what her nose was able to tell her about the stranger above and beyond his species and gender. She didn’t know what it was, but she could detect a new smell to her, and it made her curious enough to ask what it was.
“Yeah, yeah! Yeah!” Myron yipped excitedly. He darted ahead of the other dog and pressed his nose to the ground trying to locate it. Suddenly he play-bowed with excitement – not knowing what else to do – “I found it!” He knew what it was, but he didn’t mind, he wanted to learn this new game.
Sombra quickly figured out that the little bitch was talking about oxytocin. He explained the effect it had on the brain, and that usually it required external stimuli to produce it, such as petting and being pet, or nursing, but with training, one could teach their body how to release it on their own. “In my work I generally need to remain calm, and so Alpha helped me learn how to release it. I could teach you if you’d like.”
Luuna caught up behind the pup. She wanted to be sure he didn’t lose his course. “Do you notice how it’s getting stronger as we keep going? Don’t get distracted, keep on it.”
Myron was silent for a change and following the scent. Diane even joined in, wondering what the fuss was about. The pair sniffed around following something on the edge of a tree. It petered out down by the small stream where it hit the water. They kept sniffing around trying to pick up the scent.
Sombra cocked his head. He wasn’t sure where the little bitch was going, but he joined in. Soon he caught up with Luuna and the male pup. “Where are we going sister?”
“I am teaching the little one how to play ‘seek.’”
“What did you find?”
“I can’t be sure, but I think it might be ‘betaAlpha Protect Level 7;’ Shh, you’ll distract the little one.”
Diane and Myron kept at it. They walked through and around the arboretum. They lead a merry chase. Soon they walked past a small hedge together as the scent became nearly overpowering. “It’s dad.” Diane said first. The pair made a beeline to him as he whistled for them to come.
Aidan was enjoying the last puffs on his Meerschaum pipe. With lack of activity and increase in paperwork, he’d been able to use it more. The colors were coming in nicely. The eagle claw holding the bowl was turning a soft orange and brown. He cleaned and packed up the ashes into a nearby container he had installed, then wiped the pipe down before slipping it into the pocket of his sweatpants. As he did so, he noticed Myron and Diane walking around the back of a short hedge. “Come on guys.”
Pretty soon the adults came up behind them. Sombra, more or less “off duty” went up to him and sat gazing up for pats. Luuna skirted around to the side, sniffing his empty hand. Sombra looked at Diane, and in their doggie-language asked, “so is this your dad you mentioned?”
Meanwhile Amiri set down hir PADD. S/he rolled over bringing hir tail up between. S/he fluffed hir pillow, but something caught hir eye.
Diane started to jump on Aidan as she said, “This is dad.” Aidan corrected her, with a soft but firm no. He had to repeat it before she obeyed. “Hi guys and gals. We meet again.” Aidan offered petting Sombra and scratching behind the ear, a known spot as he’d been around dogs all his life. He switch to Luuna, scratching her under the chin. Attaching the leads to both of pups, he turned to go.
Sombra cocked his head, “it was nice to have met you little one. Maybe your dad can set up a play date with Alpha soon.”
Luuna was sad to see the male puppy go, she had never had someone look up to her before. “Hey,” she barked, “we never got your names.”
“I’m Myron, this is my quiet sister, Diane.” Diane turned and nipped at him. “I’m reserved, you’re a goof!” They started wrestling in front of Aidan.
Aldana spied hir precious-es across the way interacting with her XO and spotted two cute puppies. “Major is that you?”
“One and the same, Lieutenant…...Aldana?” He offered.”Nice quiet night. Letting the pups burn off a little nervous energy before bedtime. Yourself?” He asked.
Amiri nodded, “that’s correct, though I prefer Doctor Aldana, since to me the health and safety of the crew comes before all else. What good is life without good health? That's where I come in.” she held hir hands down at puppy level.
Sombra came over to Alpha, ~they don’t seem to know their names, can you find out their names?~ he pleaded, he hadn’t caught them in all of their comtion.
Amiri tried to coax the pups over gently cooing. S/he glanced up at hir commander, “They’re awful cute, do they have names?”
“Myron is a male and Diane is a bitch. Diane is the one on top” Aidan offered. “German shepherd/ rottweiler mix. A friend of mine runs kennels and a bitch was impregnated unintentionally, and here we are. I agreed to take two though I wanted the one.”
~Myron is the boy, and Diane is the girl.~
~Thanks, Alpha~ Sombra replied.
Luuna nudged her brother. ~I coulda told you that. You weren’t paying attention.~
Amiri smiled. “Well I hope my little terrors behaved themselves and were gentle with you little rascals” S/he reached down and rubbed the boy. “Hi! Myron!” s/he added in hir best excited high and squeaky voice.
“I wasn’t worried. Not much is going to happen in the arboretum.” Aidan reached out to the tree he was under and knocked on it. It’s been a long day, so if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to put these guys and myself to bed. Good night Doctor.”
Amiri nodded. “Sleep tight sir,” ~play nice little ones.~ S/he admired the puppies’ exuberance.

Niklas Blom DFS Lavie/guest quarters Aug 20, 4566 0200 hours
Niklas was bored. That's all there was to it. Bored could be dangerous. He knew that. No reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other could be putting one foot in the grave. He'd seen people get depressed and seek permanent solutions to temporary problems. As an android, it was even worse. He could 'sleep' but he didn't have to. Just a waste of time.
That he needed something to do was more than obvious. His skills while considerable for colony or facility, was something he wasn't sure he wanted anymore. He didn't really need much in the way of a living. He'd have to go and find out if the government would pay out on the pension since he was forced into voluntary retirement.
He went to the desk and started a list of things, he could do. Nothing wrong with mind. Synthetic and positronic though it was, it was still sharp and now orders of magnitude faster, with more capacity that he ever imagined. He'd already absorbed more music than he needed. A concert pianist would be an option. He was good as a human and since the conversion had time to polish and practice his skills to a fine point. But that life didn't hold much appeal for Niklas.
The exhilaration of being a bodyguard was for him a unique experience. It wasn't something that he could do full time. Soldiering wasn't his niche. He knew that. If it came down to self preservation, that was another matter, he could defend himself, now that he knew how.
What was required was a complete shakeup. A new life for his new body. But what....first and foremost, he needed to learn more about himself. Why did his beloved scotch taste like crap, when he knew damn well that it should not. Pulling up the meager resources in his quarters, he was not impressed with the results. The workstation he was using was incredibly slow and some of the files he requested had been classified or just not informative. He needed help. Candy was out of the question. She might be willing to let him learn, but he would never trust her again. Not with what had already transpired.
He'd have to go back to school. Hard science class. Theoretical physics, computer sciences, and a dozen others he thought of in just a nanosecond. Before that, though, he needed some changes in his quarters or access to faster informational systems. Lumi was the key. She would at least be the start of his journey.

Kiyoko Ino August 20th 4566 DFS Lavie - Mechbay - Morning
Kiyoko had been at the Rigal Operations Base for a few months now; to say she did not like that assignment was an understatement… She was then assigned to the Rim with her brother; an assignment she equally distasted however she found something else out about she and her brother; they loved each other. Once their father found out he wanted to murder the two of them however he just reassigned them both. She was now assigned the DFS Lavie a ship that was assigned to the core worlds at least from what she understood it she did hate being away from Hikaru though She had commented to Hikaru once that she wanted to be assigned to one of these ships but she did not want to be away from him so even though she wanted this assignment it was torture knowing that her father separated them. This assignment was going to be a tough one she knew as she had heard from operations and from getting the reports on their previous battles… The Lavie seemed to have pretty good people and even a celeberty; Sakura Carain… The cousin of the President famous for her skills as a pilot… At least Kiyoko had meeting all these top notch people to look forward to.
She had gotten her gear together and left it in her quarters. She was now in the Seeker as she was set to patrol this shift; this was originally she and her brother’s AMC unit; an AS classed Echelon Type Unit. She had used it for a long time and it was similar in specifications to those assigned to the other pilots on the DFS Lavie and at the Earth Presidential Compound so the mech was better than most anything out on the line; unless FSF appeared again which she hoped… She wanted to crush some scornful pilots whom supported the enemy. She was sitting on the edge of the Seeker’s cockpit with her legs facing outside. She was already in her flight suit ready to leave whenever they actually gave her deployment orders.
Kiyoko was 29 and had seen combat during the wars of 4562 and 4560. She was decorated and known for her skills even if her people skills were meaningless. Her long black hair was tied into twin-tails even though this was not regulation she never really cared and neither did command. Even if she did piss people off she was a capable pilot and those were in short supply. Her blue eyes were scanning the people 50 feet down; maintenance technicians had already cleared the Seeker so people were working on other things; falling from this distance would be a not to fun experience if you did not have a flight suit on to absorb the fall. She had been partnered with her brother since they both passed their qualification test for AMC. She was the pilot, tech and logistics member of their team where as he handled navigation, negotiations and infiltration. She was a better aim than he was so she flew the mech and used the weapons. Though now those usual assignments did not matter as she was on her own with the Seeker now; she wondered what had become of her brother and hoped she would see him again. She was initially pretty shy and not outgoing when she was younger but as she got older she became more brash, opinionated and sort of had a shoot first ask questions later personality even if it was sort of erratic. She was not a people person though she is a pretty good cook, survivalist and liked to draw and sketch things even if her skills at drawing were piss poor. Waiting on her permission to go on her deployment was starting to become a tedious task so she decided to continue reading a book she was working on about the lives of two romantic lovers. She was nearly done with it after her time at Rigal then in the Rim with her brother. She liked these sorts of books though; it detailed the whole of their lives not just the juicy parts either… That was pretty interesting… Before she began to read though to her dismay a new maintenance tech was preparing the connectors for a leg repair wrong on another mech. She hurriedly took the lift down from the Seeker and walked up to the tech as his crew chief was nowhere to be found. “You’re doing it wrong.” She said coldly. The tech just continued his work thinking she was not talking to him. “Hey… Stop… Do you even know how to do your job!?” She asked finally pulling the man off of the part. “I’m workin’ here!” He yelled. “You’re being incompetent is what you are doing.” By this time one of the crew chiefs noticed her holding the guy and came over; they knew her quite well. “Lieutenant Ino what seems to be the problem?” Kiyoko turned her attention to the crew chief. “You man is an idiot chief…. Does he want this machine’s legs to break off upon deployment… Sure the pilot was stupid enough to get their leg blown up… But honestly…” The chief sighs. “Jeffers… Go work on replacing the weapons on the Destoryer.” The new mechanic nodded and left. The chief then crossed his arms and said “Do you always have to get into arguments with my boys… Take your concerns up with me and stop badgering my men!” He walked away from her before she could reply. She stood there for a moment contemplating how she could have handled that conversation differently.
After a moment she headed back up to the Seeker and got inside putting her book down and checking over the mech powering it. The cockpit was well-equipped and was actually quite large for unit the size. Considering there were two seats the pilot’s seat and further back raised up a bit was the gunner followed by the back small living area. It was spaced for the seats to actually go into a sleeping mode as well as an actual bed in the back of the cockpit as part of the “living space” however small it was. There was also a refrigeration unit and food preparation unit in there as well directly above the bed to save space as it was still pretty space conscious even for being so well outfitted. Their bags were meant to go under their seat in a small storage area under them. It seems like this was designed for long duration missions and to basically have the pilots to be entirely self-sufficient. She powered on the unit’s main computer and the emblem of the Galactic Federation appeared on the screen along with the AMC logo and motto. (Qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum). The AI then spoke “Welcome to the ACU-03 Seeker. Pre-operational check completed; all systems are operational. Lieutenant Kiyoko Ino of the Delta Force Ship Lavie within Trinity Special Operations Division 1 has been confirmed.” She set the mech’s AI on automated diagnostics considering how stupid the mechanics were she wanted to make sure they did not screw anything up.
(The flight gear has light body armor, shock absorption, O2 systems and other comfort and lifesaving functions. Then there is the VX Armor chip in your head… a com, energy shield and HUD in one. It can even deploy nanoprobes to save the user’s life or kill foreign organisms in the user’s body if required. She has her helmet off right now.)
