"Burn the Ships"
Location: Major Weaver's office, the City-Ship
Andrew awoke with a start from his place on the couch in his office aboard the massive city-ship, his eyes adjusting to the low light of the room as he slowly moved to sit up, his bio-mechanical hand slowly moving over his face as he slowly started to wake up before he finally hauled himself up and made his way over to the bathroom station attached to his office for a quick shower and change before the start of his duty shift.
The MDC for the Trinity stood under the water for a couple of minutes, allowing the heated liquid to sooth out his stressed out muscles from having once again slept on his office's couch without meaning to... but sometimes it couldn't be helped as he found himself going over hours of materials covered by his duties.
And sometimes others, he just didn't feel like returning to his quarters.
The servos in his bio-mechanical hand made a slight noise as the flex-metal clenched tightly into a fist as the thought of one of the reasons why came unbidden into his mind.
He still loved Hitomi, *WAS* still in love with her and while he accepted that she also had a relationship with the living avatar of the "Murasashi"... what the ship had done to Hitomi and him was something that he simply couldn't forget... or really get over.
He felt like he'd been taken for granted, like Hitomi really didn't understand what a relationship was...
Andrew slammed his metal fist into the plating of the wall, adding to the already impressive denting from previous emotional moments before he forced himself out of the shower and away from his darker thoughts, catching sight of him in the mirror as he did so.
If it wasn't for the fact that he knew that he was looking at his own reflection, Andrew probably wouldn't recognize this man that was composed of nothing more than scarred muscle and steel...
... no wonder Hitomi felt she needed something better than him.
Andrew closed his eyes tightly and fought back the negative emotions as they threatened to swell up inside of him again as he went and got a uniform for the day before heading for breakfast.
//////////////////////////////
The rest of the day went normally for him, drilling his marines across decks that were not currently in use on the city-ship for preparations in case there was a hostile boarding action with him and a select few served as the hostiles for the training exercise and they managed to keep things interesting, occasionally getting yelled at by members of the city-ship's operations and sciences departments for his "squads" more... creative uses of tactics.
But in the end, his marines were able to foil his efforts... up to a point when one of his squad leaders managed to tag him with a "killshot" but not before he revealed that he had made a specialized deadman's switch that when released, would've used two entire firing arcs of the city-ship's weapons to take out both the Lavie and the Murasashi with a massive combined salvo.
He would then go onto explain afterwards that nothing should ever taken for granted-if the lead hostile looks like he has something suspicious at hand, you never go in for the killshot no matter what else because in the end, you could create an even bigger situation.

He then broke the groups down for other situations as he went back to his office to grab a quick bite and start working on his reports to the senior command, finding comfort in the loneliness of his office as he peeled off his uniform jacket and tossed it onto the back of a chair before hitting a control on his desk as an Old Earth song slowly started to play through the room as he went to his replicator and started working on his food order.
<Can you hear Valhalla call?>
<Will you dine there tonight?>
<Take this fleet that we sailed here upon>
<And set it all alight>
<Burn the ships and watch them all sink down>
<There's no voyage home, there's no turning around>
<So as you look into your enemies' eyes>
<Fight or die!>
