Aidan was beat and the day and barely started. The new training schedule was hitting everyone hard. An hour long holodeck obstacle course with the Marine squads, followed by live fire, and marksmanship. Later, there would be hand to hand combat, and of course bridge duty. He was as hard on himself as he could be as he was a true believer in the value of "fight like you train." He received the VX text and replied he was on the way. Still in BDu's, he was sweaty, holodirt disappeared but it still felt grimy. Walking in the door, he stood the requisite distance from the desk as usual. "You needed to see me Captain?
[Tag Yuka]
"Yes Sir, I told Kirin I would broach the subject with you, honestly with everything going on, it was lower on the priority list than it should be." Aidan replied. We have the lounge on deck 3, a little more decoration can't hurt."

Yuka Layton August 14th 4566 DFS Lavie – Captain’s Ready Room
Once Aidan chimed the door she simply replied with her typical “Enter”. Once he entered she nodded and then said “So I take it my idea of drills is going well… Now the whole thing with Kirin Dragmawl… What are we going to do with him exactly… He could serve some kind of civilian capacity I guess… Neither of us can trust him with anything sensitive but we shouldn’t just throw him to the dogs like Jim if he actually has the willingness to improve and make an attempt.”
Yuka listened to his idea and nodded. “So a bartender of sorts… Yeah we currently have no one doing that frankly the crew needs someone they can just shoot the breeze with… I think it will be good or him too as it will teach him how to make friends. In a way we are dealing with two kids on this ship; Lumi and Kirin… He says he does not need friends and does not know how to make them… She is literally still developing her personality and discovering what it is to be alive… A long with our normal duties we pretty much have to be parents to these two… It really is a tiresome little thing but at least it seems like they both are growing… I feel like I have grown a lot in the past few months myself.” She said as she thought about the past; she felt like she had made progress… Sure there had been hard times but it has been a learning experience and though she had lost two friends she had gained a husband and her father was back in her life; it was not a fair trade as death never was fair but it had been less detrimental to her demeanor than she thought it would be.
There would also be the issue of Sakura Carain and Misaki Hiroki… Yuka would talk to Aidan later about those two though as both of them had requested official assignments to the Lavie. For now they had other more pressing things to focus on… Sakura and Misaki were not going anywhere so that could be addressed at a later time.

"Bartender/Host would be a good fit. Lumi would benefit from that kind of environment as well, but we need her on bridge duty. Which reminds me, we've SO busy since you and I met, if just never occurred to me. Why isn't Lieutenant Kengori in the rotation? I never see him, in fact, the only time I can actually remember seeing him, was when Jim reared his ugly face. He's listed as Second Officer so it should be him in the rotation and we can make allowances for Lumi to give us all some breathing room.
[tag Yuka]
"In that case, with your permission, I plan to review his file and after an interview, I think we need to entertain a few possibilities. Is he fit? If not, I plan on relieving him of duty until he his. If he is fit, we add him to the rotation, or he needs to be removed as Second Officer and that slot can go to Lumi who so far, has done a decent job with some glaring exceptions with regards to understanding body language from my conversations with Mister Blom.

Yuka Layton August 14th 4566 DFS Lavie – Captain’s Ready Room
Yuka thought about what Aidan had said and let it all sink in for a moment . She then replied to him with a nod and then said:
“Lumi is pretty well suited for command as long as she learns better people skills but really until she was not connected to the ship it was kind of a… conflict of interest… giving her command of herself. As far as if Koto Kengori is fit or not… He does well in combat situations… Outside of that I too wonder if he should be in charge of what he is in charge of in security and that right there is a sign that he either needs to learn his duties better or not be Second Officer… I mean if he is having trouble running security outside of combat then why is he what he is…”
She realized that she had not really mentioned to anyone about the encrypted notification she got from Hukari’s Office. She had sent the information to Misaki and to Dr. Shindler in case she needed to talk to him. Even if he was here to monitor Yuka mostly still as a psychologist and one of the few people on board with an actual mental health related degree he would be the best one to handle such a problem. Yuka knew Aidan hated shrinks so she did not mention this part of things.
“You have my permission to investigate… Use Ari Mizriki’s help; she is the best investigator we have right now aside from Misaki Hiroki but… I do not know if you heard… Her ship was destroyed… The fleet found no survivors and so they are assuming her fiancé is dead. I know we are all trained to handle these situations but in this case I think she needs time; so get Ensign Mizriki to help you if you need it.”

Continuation above post Yuka Layton Aidan Thornton Ari Mizriki Captain's ready room/ XO's office.
"Will do Sir. I will avail myself of her talents at once. On a side note, I was overlooking the ship design....the mech bay is getting a bit crowded. Plus if we are getting two ships at some point, we may need more storage. Do you have a second or two to hear an idea?" Aidan offered (edited)
"Yeah... I always have time for you... In work or in play..." Yuka said; she was being honest even if a bit unprofessional.
"Don't. I need to be able to walk with dignity, not a tent in my trousers." he shot back as he winked at her. "Computer pull up Aidan file Luna mod 1 and display over the desk." The hologram appeared of the ship. "Center around the sensor pod area." The image changed. Aidan twisted the ship so that he could see Yuka through the area under the pod. "Empty space" , now if we add a door, front and back, all we need is some plating and a few eps conduits. Instant bay for additional vehicles. Computer time lapse through the added material."
"Well we are going to be getting some support fighters from fleet operations. After the attack that happened they believe we even need more than the two ships we are having built here. They want to assign a fighter wing to the Lavie to support our AMC units operations. We will need space for the fighters... We should just combine the current mechbay and shuttlebay to make one giant bay for the fighters and shuttles... Move the mechs up top." She said as she noted what he was talking about.
"Who needs more room?" He asked. "I think the top bay is going to be about 20% larger." (edited)
"This is a good point for this then too... Commander Carain has requested permanent station here on the Lavie. She has volunteered to command our mech squadron in my stead since obviously sending me out to go die is not really an option... Considering we have Shadow, Defender, Guardian, Zeus and Destroyer I think the mechs might need more space."
"Okay. Will that be all Captain?" Aidan asked. "Oh and we can sweeten the pot for Candy. Since we have the repairs mostly taken care of, at least for mobility. Why not let us go out and find a larger asteroid we can keep in orbit and break apart for raw materials? It would sure speed up a few things here and I know she won't mind." Aidan added. "We could just blow it up for them an leave the remains of smaller asteroids for them to clean up. Outside of those things though... Misaki also requested to join our crew too... Like I said though right now I think we should just give her time to figure out what she is going to do... It must be horrible to lose someone so close..." Yuka seemed sad speaking of the death of someone close.
"I can't say I haven't found her useful. My impression is she's competent. We could do worse. We have worse, but I will talk with her."
"Alright; anything else then... if not dismissed... Let me know how the meeting with Mizriki goes... From what I heard from the Lonhorn guys before they met their sad end... She and her fiance seem to think most of our people are incompetent..."
"Nothing like a good challenge. Captain." He winked at her again and saw her smile. Spinning on his heels to leave. As he passed through the doors, he sent a VX message to Mizriki's com, asking her to meet him in his office. Getting there he said, "computer, extra large chocolate recovery drink with a double shot of espresso." Retrieving the drink from the slot, he took several long pulls on it before sitting down.
Ari acknowledged the message still getting a hang of the new systems she was being exposed to. She was grateful for the request from someone else to be able to leave Dales torture. She tried herself off and headed to the XO's office. She had yet to meet Aidan and wondered why the ships First Officer would be calling her. She pressed the call button as she arrived outside; she was in a BDU type uniform since she just came from training with Dale.
"Enter." Aidan said. Looking up, saw the person enter and was trying not to chuckle at the diminutive woman in military uniform. "Can I offer you anything?" (edited)
Ari saluted upon entering; she got that right... Unlike most of the people on this ship... Dale was a hardass but that much was obvious from how Yuka; even though she was unprofessional at times was trained by him and she is actually able to hold her own in a fight. "Ensign Mizriki reporting as ordered Major." She replied. When he asked her if she wanted anything she looked confused but was trying not to show it. (drill instructor shoving protocol and be a good soldier or else thing down her throat... poor girl...)
Aidan returned her salute, marginally impressed, but salutes were basic stuff. "This is informal. You can relax. I only do protocol on non-draftees. So that's a no on a drink or snack?" (edited)
She lowered the salute and let out a sound of relief. "I feel like I am gunna die... non-draftees?" She was not familiar with the lingo yet. "Um... Whatever you think would keep me from falling over due to exhaustion... Please..." She took a seat next to his desk.
"What do you like flavor wise. Coffee, chocolate....peanut butter...strawberry?." Aidan asked. (edited)
"All of the above actually... I am not that picky... I've learned to be less so than I was before... I'm actually surprised I have not got into a fist fight with your... equivalent to a drill instructor... The guy is a douchebag. Anyway... How can I help?"
Aidan chuckled. "While it's never in the official job description, most drill instructors are harsh that way. A draftee was an old term for people called up to serve the military but they didn't join. A draft of all personnel from other sources. Computer, a large chocolate peanut butter recovery shake with a shot of espresso and four wrapped same flavor energy bars." He placed the drink in front of her with a large gauge straw. "The bars are for later and you can share with your partner. If Dale has a problem with it, tell him to see me." He watched her take a tentative sip, then greedily attack the mix. "Careful, ice cream headache."
"Thanks... So it means the same thing as it did in my time... I'm an idiot... Sorry for my stupidity." She said as she did indeed go after the drink; it was good and she had not really had anything useful in the food department yet so it was almost too good. She still managed to keep manners about her though; she was not being her usual cold self since she did not want to piss off senior officers; she would rather not end up in a cell here. She assumed the brig was far worse than anything she could think up happy that she avoided jail in her home but here... She did not want to be frozen in an ice chamber (cryoprison). She nodded at both of his statements about the bars and telling her to slow down. "I did just kind of end up here so... Well... Like I asked... How can I be of help?" She did not know why she was summoned here though grateful for the break.
"I was persuaded that you may be useful in a delicate matter. I'd like to see what you can dig up on Lieutenant Koto Kengori. He's the current Chief of Security, but his performance has been....lackluster, so to speak. We've be so busy he may have slipped through the cracks, and I just need to know what I am dealing with. Is it simple boredom, or something more."
"Oh... the coffee addicted manic... Yeah... I was sent to him to do target practice... Apparently nobody here has heard of hunting or a civilian ran gun range... cause everyone thought I couldn't shoot a gun... c'mon people I know martial arts and can fire a gun; I'm not a complete invalid... I had to learn pretty fast how not to get my ass kicked with my personality... I'm so charming..." She smirked at her own statement then continued. "So the coffee manic guy... He was like half asleep mumbling nonsense in his office... I don't remember about what though... Something about forms... I dont remember... he seemed kind of insane... So you want me to dig things up on him... So what am I looking for just out of the ordinary work habits... protocol violations? Anything in particular?"
"Is it simple fatigue....or like you suggest, it is manic behavior or worse? That's the kind of thing I need to know. I'm going to amend your security clearance as far as I can and I would suggest you avail yourself of Lt. Trouve's unique talents, and will inform her of your investigation. I'm not trying to dig up the man's life history, just the last year or two."
"Assuming we even need to go that far." He added.
"Okay... That I can do. I was an investigative journalist for my cities newspaper... Was working on a masters degree in journalism... I usually dealt with politicians trying to hide things... This shouldn't be as difficult as that... Trouve... I believe I met her before... yeah Lumiere Trouve the like administrative officer or something... She showed Brandon and I around... So how do you want this delivered; email, in person?" She asked. Investigations were something she could do.
I'll send you a small primer on the VX systems. You can send it privately to me, Lt Trouve, or the Captain ONLY. I would prefer you hand deliver your report in this case. Of course we will need to amend your training schedule accordingly as you will need time for this. Any thoughts on how much time?"
"Well how fast do you want it completed and sure... got it... confidential... Nobody will know."
"I will answer that with a question. How long would you want someone of his nature with access to WMD's that can destroy planets?" Aidan commented.
"Take four hours off my training a day and I can get this done for you within a couple days... I am certain super soldierman will be pissed though..." (shes talking about Dale)
"Done. You start right now. Questions, comments, concerns, emotional outbursts?" Aidan asked.
"Emotional... outbursts... You must deal with 20 something girls all time time then... Oh wait... thats right you're going to marry the Captain... 25 and a Captain... how does that even work... Damn... She must be pretty impressive..."
"I'm still discovering the answers to all that." Aidan answered honestly. "Yes she's impressive. Unless there is anything else, dismissed."
"Cool... So I'll get this to you when I'm done." She said as she stood taking the bars and the drink with her. She felt it interesting that she was not even done training and already going to be using her skills for something potentially life altering.
Aidan sighed. Now the unpleasant part. "Lieutenant Kengori, report to the XO's office on the double."

continued from above
Koto enters Aidan's office slowly like a sort of zombie crewman.
He looks at the stern face of Aidan watching him as he enters and the door closes behind him. "You wished to see me Sir?" Koto gives a slow weakened salute.
He returned the pisspoor salute. "Seeing your crappy appearance, 8 up salute, and the fact that you didn't even knock, I will get right to the point." Aidan's mood went from cloudy grey to abysmal black. " How much SHIT is clogging your head right now Lieutenant?" His tone terse but modulated. (8 up is an old army term, It stands for elevation set to straight up, meaning the rounds come right back on your head)
Koto remains in his hunched feeble state. "This will take but a moment." He speaks quietly. He pulls out a syringe. "Stay calm, it is for me." He injects it into his right arm. He then begins to stand up straight and remove the syringe. He looks as though he was woken from the grave. "Permission to explain and do not attempt to contact anyone outside of this office as they are defiantly being monitored." His tone was clear and precise once again.
"Permission granted. Before you even start I want us to see something together. Just so we both know how thin the ice is that you are skating over." Aidan said, then put the wall viewscreen up with the video he received. Once it ended he waited for Koto's response.
Koto nods. "It's fine work that Jessica did there. It took a great deal of time before I could work out when she would make her move." Koto puts away the syringe. "As you may have guessed I was poisoning myself, which I have just cured. I've been looking into the spy who contacted the FSF that attacked us some time ago. We had reports that they had left the ship before we could find out who they were. However we knew something left but not if it was a someone." Koto clears his throat. "Of course I couldn't risk setting a trap without complete confidence that it would work and that action could legally be taken. I know my performance has been awful but it was necessary. I'd heard the crew talking about her interest in taking my position when I next screw up. I took a chance. I couldn't mention this until now as I needed to be summoned by you to somewhere that cannot be monitored by security. You or Yukas office and/or quarters."
He starts to pace. "Secondly I've found Jessica has been different since we left Earth, she's been good, too good, and cold. She has no warmth, nothing behind her actions, just duty. I know I sound like a fool but I needed to give her a chance at taking over." He stops pacing. "If she takes my job she would have control, this is what she wants and she thinks she's planned it well enough to succeed. If this turns out to be false then she can keep the position and you can send me to whatever hell you want." Koto looks Aidan in the eyes. "This secrecy sickens me and you are within your right to deny me entirely but I would not act without finding a way to be sent to you or Yuka first. I needed to keep it hidden from her." (edited)
"Computer, a large coffee. Black." He retrieved it while considering how much crap had just flowed into the room. "Fine, then if that is the case, we do two things. We give her exactly what she wants, just not the way she wants it. Leave that to me. That still doesn't explain the reports I have from other sources going back some time. "
Koto lowers his head. "I'm not saying I shouldn't be punished, I've been a wreck for a long time now. I just upped my game to manipulate her."
"Well, we cannot have you walk around poisoned. You WILL report to medical, understand that is NOT a request. Second, you are confined to quarters until further notice, and will be under guard, Marine Guard, if that eases your apprehension. I have my own investigation right now. We will revisit this once the report comes back. Questions on EXACTLY what you do next?" Aidan said.
Koto smiles. "As long as it looks like a punishment and she thinks she's winning. She is also the best security officer we have and knows she's the most likely to take my position. As for what to do next. I did plan to use my own security clearance as bait for her but that was too risky without help. If you need any further information I'm yours. My rooms cameras currently function but without my codes she cannot see me there. Marine guard is good too keep it away from security personnel."
"Glad you approve", Aidan said dryly. Koto said. "I should also inject myself before they take me. I will need to still be sick when I arrive in medical." Koto injects once more and leaves the syringes with Aidan.
Aidan called in the guards he requested earlier. "Escort the Lieutenant to Medical where he will get a full physical, then to his quarters where he will remain unless eating in the mess hall. If he resists. Put him in the brig." ( Koto salutes properly before being taken away.
He returns the salute. Aidan VX's Sarissa the hyposprays in containment and requests a full report on their contents and what that the medical exam report finds may be part of a potential court martial.

Major Aidan Thornton Commander Sakura Carain Lieutenant Koto Kengori Mechbay/ Crew Quarters Early afternoon Aug 14 , 4566
After Sakura checked on Koto again she headed to the mechbay to check over how peoples machines were doing. Koto was apparently restricted to quarters; which she could understand... It was the same reason Misuki kept getting locked away on the original Lavie; being an idiot never got you too far especially on a military vessel. She liked having fun with the guy who she called her brother even if they were not related but he really did need to do his job otherwise why was he even the Chief... She had requested an official assignment here; to her cousins dismay but at least she was enjoying herself besides Josh and Misuki could take care of things on Earth; she was just an extra set of hands who Hukari really did not need... Even Kori was by Hukari's side. Sakura was staring at Defender as he was humming a war march. Why was a mech humming... His AI was too humanlike... (edited)
Aidan was talking with one of the Senior Mech technicians. A large padd was in his hand and he was making notes and drawing. Feedback for the new bay, making sure as little as possible went wrong in the building and fitment.
Sakura turned her attention from the humming war-machine to the technician and the XO whom were discussing something. She had really only interacted with the XO... twice if she remembered right; she was also technically above him in rank even though AMC was a different rank structure; that made things even more odd. Though Sakura suspected the only reason she remained at the rank of Commander was her cousin being the President. She hated people trying to get all chummy with her just because she was related to the President/popstar. Sakura came over doing a salute; had she even introduced herself the first two times she met him... She could not even recall that so once a pause happened in the conversation between Aidan and the technician she said. "Good afternoon Major sir. I believe we were never formally introduced; Commander Sakura Carain; I'm sure you were informed I'll be taking command of the 4th Assault Group on board the Lavie." (The mech squads designation is as an assault team since all the mechs are actually quite powerful.)
Aidan returned the salute. He had to do a quick fact check on what she said. "Yes Commander, glad to have the help." He then held out his hand. After the quick handshake he added. "Fleshing out the new mech bay. It's a bit crowded now. If there's anything I can add to the list of wants and needs...let me know."
"Well if a new bay is being built elsewhere a area for lockers and a briefing area would likely be needed... Having to come back down here for that would be inefficient." She said
"Got it...that should be easy to do. A few interior walls and a viewscreen. " He made note of the request. Then thinking about other things weighing on his mind he said. "You've known the crew longer than I have. any insights?"
"Well... Some of the crew... Others I have never known but there are a number of people here who have a really long history with the Federation; actually about as long as yours. I've been doing this 10 years almost so to be where I am... Some people think it is just because I am related to Hukari. Others though... They know the hard work that comes to get here... Like you... Ross and Trent... So many of the older folks even served with Alex Werner on Shadow Fire. The older folks you can count on... Comparatively the kids don't really know where they stand Like Koto as an example... He... had a really hard past; actually about as crappy as my own and while I got PTSD and being a perv out of my situation... he... is a bit unstable that is not to say that he is not capable.... He just; is unstable. Some of the others are like that too... This crew is really an amalgamation of troublemakers, problemmed officers and such... It is a miracle that Captain Layton has even excelled... That is not disrespect; its a fact... A blind college student being flung into the middle of a war with very little training and then given command of 200 people... It is about as stupid as when Hukari took over Delta Force... A teenage girl being put in charge of a military faction that will shape the history of the galaxy... I guess we are surrounded by extraordinary people otherwise how would any normal person be able to accomplish what they have. I hope that was not too off-topic." Sakura commented
"No...insight is always helpful. Hearing you say Koto is unstable in....not good news. I've had to confine him to quarters until further notice. Having you confirm some of my fears was something I was not hoping for." He mulled over the information, cataloging someone of it for further notice. Then keying back to something she said before, his eyes opening wider, "so YOU'RE the one responsible for the me having to teach both...." he let the sentence drop. "Mister....I'll catch up. Let me have a minute with the Commander." The crewman nodded and left earshot.
"Well... I could even be classified as unstable by the right psychologist... Being raped countless times does not exactly make your mind sit in the center of bliss... Something you have to remember is that with proper training anyone can excel... Not everyone can be a leader but everyone can do well. Is he capable of being in charge of security... Well that is not my call; that is between you, Yuka and Hukari... I am just your sword and book of history... If you need me then I am here. I do have one request though; if you talk with Koto I would like to be there; I promise I will not have an outburst like I did with Kirin when Misaka was interviewing him... His excuses just... angered me..."
Aidan replied, "that...might be helpful. You might actually be a stabilizing influence. More an intervention than punishment.." He became thoughtful for a moment. "I cannot change what happened to you. I also cannot imagine the horror you went through or even why someone would want to....but to me that is a blessing. My people have....inventive ways of making sure rape never recurs. None that I could actually do on duty but fun to think about. At least now I understand the reason for your.....proclivities." He winked at her. (edited)
"Any time you guys need anything from me I am here and I have my cousins ear... More so then most... So if you need something just ask." Sakura watched him think for a moment and then after he responded she said. "Nobody can undo what my adoptive father did to me... but I killed them so." She moved on to something else; discussing that part of her history was something she rarely did. "Society should castrate them but we are too humane for that apparently." She said that as a lighthearted sort of response but she was being honest. She would not have had to end her adoptive father and mothers lives if they were stopped from the initial event; as she said though nothing could be done about it so it was meaningless reliving her past. "Sex is fun and it helps me release... Though so far nobody here has taken me up on anything... It is fine though... Besides I am working and this beats sitting at a desk on Earth or doing random errands for Hukari." She said. "Have you actually spoken to Koto yet or?"
"Yes and no. I did have a brief private discussion with him. He was.....less than forthcoming by my standards. Things that didn't mesh with what I already know to be true. So I relieved him of duty and confined him to quarters pending the results of my investigation in his conduct and behavior. I cannot afford to be lackluster when it comes to ship security, or anything else given our already precarious position." Aidan added, "The bad guy is not my favorite role, but this is life and death not grading papers in school. People die from mistakes made here."
"Darius was an ego maniac but I never thought he and his people were as stupid as they have turned out to be... Declaring war on the Federation... Such an idiot... Didn't he see what happened to those we fought in the past... pfft. Yeah... So... do you want to go talk to him?" She asked.
"If I remember he threatened to kill Misuki cause she called him a spineless prick for trying to kill her husband... Really fucked up guy..."
"Nah. I don't talk with rabid animals. Very few choices for a rabid incurable animal."
"He'd blow us up anyway... Want to go deal with Koto though?"
The poison was found in him; it wouldn't kill him but it just caused weakness and made him look ill even though he was not actually so. Medical records state that he was using stimulants, coffee and similar type things to keep him awake for unreasonable unrealistic amounts of time to the point where his body FORCES unconsciousness... basically to the point of almost killing himself. The hypospray was really a medication not a poison it just induced fake symptoms
"I'm advising following full JAG protocols since this could result in an actual offense. Documentation will be prepared and filed since I am now Chief Investigator."
Aidan and Sakura started to walk out of mech bay. Aidan was confabbing briefly with the crewman on what he wanted to do and his expectation. Learning to delegate the details to other people was a skill he was rapidly acquiring.
Aidan soon gets an encrypted message with a special layer of encryption that actually requires him to verify who he is. It was from Ari stating that she had found a number of things and would bring them personally to where-ever he requested. Aidan logs into his VX and opens it once past the encryption. He reads the file, holding his hand out for Sakura to stand-by.
Sakura stops; she was just following at this point anyway. She glances at him waiting for him to speak.
"Sorry about that. I was getting a report that couldn't wait. It's about Koto. Medical stuff. I have to get his permission before sharing it. Sorry, protocol." Aidan offered to Sakura.
Sakura nodded. "Alright... So... where are we going to talk with him; isn't he locked in his quarters?"
"As long as he didn't do something REALLY stupid, which in that case, he's in the brig or back in sickbay." Aidan added. (edited)
She chuckled in a worried sort of manner; he wouldn't fight marines would he...
Koto sits in his quarters, a box has been placed over the drinks machine. He's sweating. He watches his bed like it's his nemesis. They arrived in a few minutes to the door. Aidan saluted the Marines, then tapped the call button on Koto's room.
Koto responds while still sitting shirtless watching his bed. "I'm here. Come in."
Aidan and Sakura walk in. They eye the behavior. Aidan looks over to Sakura since she knows him better.
Koto stands and turns and, revealing a series of old scars on his chest and arms. He salutes.
Aidan returns the salute even though the man in clearly out of uniform. "Want to tell me what you're doing?" (edited)
"I'm um.." He struggles and looks at Sakura for a second. "I'm afraid Sir. I've never slept a night without horrific nightmares since I was a boy but it's been getting worse this last few months." He looks wounded by admitting it.
"I see them die every night." He says quietly.
"Not to belittle your pain Lieutenant, but I'm pretty safe in saying everyone in this room has seen people they loved or cared for killed n pretty graphic terms." Aidan commented. "More nightmares than I care to count. We eventually make peace with them, or we get help to allow ourselves to make peace with it. No shame in that."
"I used to be able to sleep but it's worse then ever."
"When was that last time you actually slept? If you go without sleep. You'll go insane and die. That's a medical fact." Aidan asked.
"I've told you I can try to help you... You should have said something." Sakura said.
"How much I share with Sakura if up to you Koto. I have some news from Medical" Aidan commented (edited)
"I slept two days ago and good, tell her everything." He relaxes slightly. "I had to keep up the act with the drugs and lack of sleep once I suspected Jessica but now I can try and re-balance myself, while I'm locked in here. What's the medical news?"
Aidan was getting more tense. "I don't like that idea. This is not the first occurrence is it....or even the fifth? Got a number for me Koto? How many times have you passed out in the last say....three months?" (edited)
"4 including the mission where I had flashbacks as we fought rioting civilians on a mission. The other three due to exhaustion." (edited)
"And you're still under the impression you don't need help?" Aidan asked honestly.
"Of course I do, I just avoid it at all times, due to a built up mentality that I deal with everything myself." Koto looks like he's speaking to another part of himself, gesturing as if there's someone there.
"You could have even come to me... This would have been handled privately... By letting yourself be this way you are endangering people under your command."
"There is a reason that you are required to be of top physical and mental health... You can't hold things inside of yourself and you cannot lie to or point your superiors in the wrong way.... You need to remember what you were taught in the academy and you should have come to someone when you noticed a problem. Let me ask you; with your inability to sleep do you think you could make a split second decision that could endanger the lives of those under you even with the delays and health issues that come with lack of sleep."
Koto looks ready to burst but it fades. He calms down. "I don't know. I took this to the extreme to deal with her. Prior to that I was failing, I'm not sure if I even noticed until you came on board that something was wrong with me. You hadn't seen me in years and quickly saw that something was off but I ignored it, thinking I was fine and that I could handle it. This has risked lives I'm sure. Do with me what you will but I'll never stop trying to help till the moment I'm dead or off ship. As for sleep I've no clue what else to try. The only time I've slept well was when I passed out in your quarters that one time." (edited)
"One of my previous assignments was in internal affairs; out job was to assist JAG in investigations. During an assignment with IA one of my friends was killed from the lack of our commander knowing how to do their job properly and knowing when to say there was a problem. If you have any intention of having anyone under you then I urge you to accept help... If you want to accept help it is there and we can get through the Board of inquiry as a team but if you don't then... I am certain that everything that was said here will become evidence in that hearing. If you want to sleep in my room; if you think that would help... Fine... but you need to accept responsibility and help... It sounds like you are accepting responsibility... now accept help."
"There's no accepting responsibility in it. I must and will. I'll take whatever orders I must to keep us alive and deal with any and all threats. Tell me what to do and I'll do it."
"But there is; everything is something you have to be willing to do... We cannot order you to change your mindset that must come from within."
"I will try."
"Here's another hard fact. With the board of inquiry, I'm not going to sugar coat it. This could go court martial. Gross negligence, dereliction of duty, conduct unbecoming. The more you cooperate, the easier it will be on the other side of this no matter what happens. You need assistance that for once we can actually offer. Let that pain in the ass shrink earn his keep." Aidan said. "For once."
"Good. Has anything happened? I can imagine she has continued her duties as per normal. So I can assume she will bide her time, but eventually a replacement for me will have to be chosen. She and probably the entire of security expect her as they will all voice their interest in her taking over. Of course they don't get to make that choice." Koto moves on from his own health issues as though they were a passing wind rather than a serious problem.
"That is no longer your concern until your are certified fit for duty. I don't need fancy gadgets or a JAG officer to tell me that. I've been doing this since I actually had to shave. Too many years. You, Koto Kengori, are NOT fit for duty at this time. You are relieved until such time as you are cleared by Medical and any other other board that comes up. Is that crystal clear Lieutenant?" Aidan voice ramping up slightly at the end.
"It's good to hear that you are continuing to look into it. I foolishly feared you might pass it off as my own delusions, due to my horrendous psychological record. Otherwise it's all crystal clear. but can we have the drinks machine and all of the medication removed from quarters. Just to be sure." He points at the machine with the box on top of it. (edited)
"Have no fear of that. You aren't sleeping here. You are to report to medical where they will get you clean and watch you sleep like a baby. Sedated if needed. Clear?!"
"Good plan." Koto cheers.

Major Aidan Thornton Lieutenant Misaki Hiroki Early afternoon Aug 14 , 4566
Misaki was in her quarters; it seemed odd how almost immediately after she sent her request to be assigned to the Lavie permanently though Hukari's office that she got notice of the destruction of the Ami and no notice of survivors. Was that God's way of picking on her; that she could be home but then Luke was dead... She was told that she could take time off; but how would that help her situation. She had barely made friends with some of the crew here and now her fiance was presumed to be dead... She had not really prepared for Luke to die away from her like that. She sort of sat there just sulking about this all... Or was it really sulking... She had a right to feel sad.
Continuing to consider if she was sulking; or what she was doing she decided to leave her quarters and head for the lounge taking a seat by a window on the other end of the place furthest from people.
Aidan walks in, clearly in a foul mood. He saddles to the bar and orders a non alcoholic irish coffee. As they bring it her turns to look at the view. One of the few features worth seeing in the lounge. He mood softens on seeing Misaki. We walks over and places a hand on her shoulder in a tender way.
She was sort of staring out the window contemplating things when Aidan came over and put his hand on her shoulder. She simply looks up. "They may train us for this... but... it still hurts... Losing a friend I can handle... but this... this is why you shouldn't get into anything with colleagues in this line of work..." She rested her head on the table staring at the metal of it as it being a cold metal table provides only its cold surface; no support, no encouragement... Just cold, hard steel.
"I don't think any training would be adequate for a situation like this. It's hard loss. May I sit?" Aidan asked.
"It's a free galaxy..." She said looking up from the cold metal surface as he did so.
"It's small consolation, but had it not been for them, it would have been us." Aidan commented.
"I would have rather died to save him and the rest of all of you... He did not deserve to die and neither did my asshole bosses; the omni whatever idiots they were so smug they probably never even saw their deaths coming... scumbags... What am I going to do now though..."
"I'd be honored if you would consider a place here. I could use someone I can count on. Though I get it if you can't. Someone with your obvious talents can always find a niche." Aidan said sipping the coffee and wishing it were a real version. But bridge duty was close and he was still on duty with everything that had been happening.
"I was thinking about staying... I put in an official transfer request... Now though... If I do stay... I'm pretty much alone... Luke was my world. He was the reason I would even get up in the morning some days..."
Aidan looked her directly in the eye. "Find a new reason. I need you. Yuka needs you. So that we honor their sacrifice. Assholes and all." Which made Aidan chuckle involuntarily.
"If we manage to ever board Maximus' ship can I please be the one to shove a magical sword up his ass... Kill that fucking Phoenix thing and end his miserable life for the entire galaxy... I want his men to see me destroy him... He needs to die."
"If I can arrange the meeting, your welcome to it. I have enough deaths on my belt, though I never shirk from a killing that would benefit the universe" Aidan replied.
"So... Finding a new reason to live... What am I supposed to be like Alexandria Werner and get up every morning for my crew and to flip God off showing him that however mentally screwed up it was to watch my husband die of explosive decompression I still am here to spite you...... I'll stop speaking ill of people like that... That comment just depressed me more... That must have been horrible for her..."
"How much combat have you seen? How many of us and claim to not have seen or lost at least one. My count is in the triple digits. Dwelling on it will drive you to drink. Another reason I can't" Aidan offered.
"... I work in intelligence... Have you seen intel officers on the front lines recently... Well maybe army or navy intel but... like actual intel service people. Plus we dealt in critical incidents... So the battles I saw were small scale tactical interventions not massive wars... Prior to this ship I've been in two other wartime situations... Outside of that yeah I saw what we would consider "battle" but my team was not getting killed cause we did surgical strikes not straight up full on blow up planets war... Your a marine so I'd expect you to watch your entire transport explode and you walk out of the rubble preparing to fight."
"I can't say you get used to it, but you do get desensitized to a point. Certain deaths will hit you harder than others. Not proud of it, some I was happy to kill at least initially. Like I said, sometimes it's a service to the universe. Like Maximus."
"I've had my share of those type of kills but see things like that are what we specialize in doing... I guess one good thing comes of this; I am free of the shackles of those assholes ordering me to do their bidding... I can actually be HOME."
"And asshole free." Aidan quipped. "Which is a plus." he added
"So... What do I do with all the feelings though; its not like I can just forget they killed my future husband... I've grateful to be free but not at that kind of cost."
"You channel it. I need a Chief of Security, at least interim. If not that, I am QUITE sure there is something I can have you do. We don't have an actual intelligence officer for example." Aidan commented.
"Isn't that priest an intel officer... Though he seems more like a command type anyway... Why is he chief of intelligence anyway.... He seems more like a security person to me"
"I always forget about him. Combat chaplain is more like it. How are you at infiltration? I did that for close to 8 years." He asked (edited)
"Between security investigations and incursions that is pretty much what I did... Father inteligence of targets, find out all I could about them and either detain them, "join" them or you know that sort of thing... Then the investigation part... So."
"Good. Find us a list of fat juicy targets in the FSF so we can start hurting them for a change. Time to go on the offensive."
"Okay."
'Stuff not too heavily defended, but necessary installations"
She nodded; work would keep her distracted and so she decided to head off and begin the work to keep her form thinking about her loss.
"You're welcome" Aidan said to himself polishing off the last of his drink then headed out himself. "Thank you... Sorry... I just... need to keep busy... We can... talk when I am less like this." She said before leaving.
Aidan headed for the bridge to relieve Yuka, as his shift started soon anyway.

Part 1: Dom's intro
Tuxpan, Mexico Residents of the Martinez Family August 15, 4566.
Dom was a little excited and a little confused on why his services would be needed on a destroyer. Dom had served on the DFS Falco an assault carrier, a mid range carrier. Now he was being told that he was going to serve on a destroyer as the Chief of Flight Operations under a young captain that was barely battle tested.
Dom was told this was going to be a good way to get himself noticed with the DFS and the Federation and a fast track to getting a command of his own some day. As an officer and a solider, Dom the knew the importance of following his chain of command and orders, but sometimes he wished they would make sense.
In Dom's mind having a Chief of Flight Operations Officer aboard a destroyer seemed pointless the ship had no fighters. It was a hard packing warship a destroyer, designed to support vessels like carriers or to protect the borders from small raiders.
But his job was not to question his orders just receive them and carry them out. Dom was almost ready to go when he heard a knock on the door of his old room. It was his sister Mable.
"Mable, I was hoping you come to greet me personally" said Dom with a grin. Family meant everything to him. He reached out to give her a hug.
Mable embraced his hug. "Of course little brother, it also appears that I am going to be escorting you as well" said Mable with a grin.
"What do you mean" asked Dom with a confused look on his face. He pulled away from his sister and was trying to read her body posture.
"The Essex is to transport you to the Lavie at New Soong Colony, and asap, are you ready to depart" asked Mable.
"I have not been debriefed" pointed out Dom.He assumed he would have to meet up with some Colonel, Captain, Admiral or some General and be personally briefed on his new assignment.
"I will debrief you enroute" suggested Mable.
Dom was shocked, he could tell that Mable was amused by his shock. "Very well, I am ready" said Dom as he grabbed his duffle bag.
"you pack light" teased Mable.
"I really do not stay anywhere to long, no reason to have to many personal items" suggested Dom. He did not want to grow to many attachments, he had a goal and that goal was to command his own ship. He sacrificed a lot already and he knew that he would have to sacrifice more.
Being in this house, was drawning up the fact on how much he had sacrificed. He noticed at his old desk, where he would study, there was a picture of Sarah. The picture dragged out old memories.
They seemed so happy and in love. It seemed so long ago. Hard to believe it had been over seven years since he last spoke to her. Dom had heard that she had married and was now a senator. He also heard that was pregnaunt and going to have a child.
He was not really keeping tabs on her, when he returned home after a two year absense, his parents where sharing the local town gossip, and Sarah's name came up in the gossip.
Dom was sad that there relationship ended but his career was important to him and her career options were important too. Love was not enough to keep them together. It was clear in both of their eyes. Looking at her picture was still not that easy for Dom. She was the lady he allowed to be close in his life and now she was gone.
"She is doing well" pointed out Mable. She noticed that Dom had looked at the picture of Sarah, she could tell he was lost in thought.
"Are we ready to beam up" asked Dom as put the picture down and back on the desk. He was ready to leave this place, the memories here where a little to intimate for his taste.
"yes" said Mable. "After we tell ma and papa we're leaving, don't be rude" said Mable with a cheesy grin.
DFS Essex (Heavy Carrier) Transporter Room
Dom and Mable beamed up to the Essex. Dom had never stepped foot on the Essex, his service time was aboard the smaller assault carrier a support carrier to a vessel like this. The ship was impressive to Dom.
Dom beamed into the transporter room. It was a standard layout, he noticed the chief was standing at the consoles. "Permission to come aboard Chief" asked Mable. This was protocol more than actual permission.
"Granted ma'am the Captain is asking for you to report to the bridge at once, he said you will have plenty of time to get Lieutenant Martinez settled in" said the Chief who was only acting as a messenger.
"Thanks Chief" said Mable as she walked off the transporter pad.
Dom debated about walking off the pad too, but he knew he should follow protocol, he was a stickler about rules and protocols on the ship he serves and he did not want to embrace himself on his sister ship. "Permission to come aboard, Chief" asked Dom.
"Granted sir" said the Chief.
Dom walked off the transporter pad. He noticed that Mable started to walk out of the area and he decided to follow her. Granted the Captain did not ask for him, but where was he going to go?
Mable did not stop him and nor did the chief as he left the transporter padd. He was hoping not to frantize with any of the crew, he was only going to be on the Essex for a short time.
DFS Essex (Heavy Carrier) Command Center (Bridge)
The bridge on the Essex was massive and impressive at the same time. He had never seen a command center this big. It could be mistaken for a starbase command center with its size. Dom was impressed. He followed Mable as she made her way to the Captain.
Mable snapped to the position of attention and Dom followed her lead and also snapped to the position of attention. She saluted her captain and said "Commander Sanchez and Lieutenant Martinez reporting for duty sir" called out Mable, in a monotone style tone to her voice.
"Welcome back Commander, and Liuetenant welcome to the Essex" called out the Captain.
"Thank you sir" said Dom, as he kept his response short and to the point.
"You asked to see me sir" asked Mable.
"Correct, why don't three of us go to my ready room" suggested the Captain.
Dom followed Mable to the captain's ready room. While they were heading out he could hear the captain telling another officer he had command of the bridge. The Essex was still in orbit over earth and Dom knew that the ship was going to break orbit soon.
Dom, Mable walked into the ready room with the Captain he motioned for the two of them to have a seat on his couch. He grabbed a chair from his desk, he grabbed one of the guest chairs and turned it around so it was facing them at the couch. He placed his duffle bag by the side of the couch.
Dom did not waste anytime taking a seat. He remained quiet and waited for the captain and his sister to start up the dailogue. "Lieutenant, we were told to brief you by the sensate on your new assignment" suggested the Captain as he looked directly to Dom.
Dom wondered what the senate had to do with his new assignment. He knew to keep quiet, despite the fact he wanted to ask why.Typically the senate did not issue out orders to the DFS or to Starfleet. It was a little unsual to say the least.
The captain noticed he did not react, so he went on. "The Federation council and the senate are concerned that a lot of support vessels need more protection, our frigates, warships, destroyers and cruisers currently have no support in deep space engagements were support can be called in, this potential downfall has cost us several warships and support vessels, we needed to address this concern and the senate along with the research and development team came up with this plan" said the Captain.
"The Senate has convinced the Federation Council to allow your team to be the test pilot for this new program, you were hand picked by the senate for this honor" said the Captain.
"Yes sir" said Dom in a confused tone. Who in the senate would have recommended him? His first thought was Sarah, but then he thought, no that can not be the case, why would she think of an ex for this prototype assignment.
The Lavie is getting refitted at New Soong Colony, she will be able to support five new fighters and several new attack support drones. In your quarters on the Essex you will be given full access to the techinical specs of the new elite drones and I believe you are familiar with the eagle class fighters, they are a little crampt but given the space limitations and the amount of firepower they are capable of, they seemed to be the perfect choice" pointed out the Captain.
Dom was not sure what to say, so he decided to be a little conservative and keep his comment limited. "Understood sir" said Dom.
"do you have any questions or statements to make" asked the Captain.
"No sir" said Dom. He was keeping his feelings in and was trying his best to keep his confusion to himself.
"Are you sure, Brother" asked Mable as she sort of broke protocol.
"Yes I am sure, Ma'am" said Dom as he decided since they were in the captain's ready room to be respectful to her rank and to this stranger who was the captain of the DFS Essex.
"okay" said the Captain. He looked to Mable and she looked back at him. "Well Lieutenant, I am going to dismiss you , please get yourself situated aboard and go over the material we have provided for you" said the Captain.
He was surprised how quiet Dom was. He was nothing like his sister. His sister was outspoken and very warm. Dom seemed a little cold towards people. The captain knew he was a very by the book officer and a decent pilot, his last captain gave him a glowing review.
"Yes Sir" said Dom, as he was eager to leave the area.
"Your dismissed, Mable please show the Lieutenant to his quarters" ordered the Captain.
"Yes Captain" said Mable as the scene ends on part 1.

Dom's intro, (part 2)
DFS Essex Personal Quarters
Dom was already situated in his temporary quarters aboard the Essex. He only had one duffle bag to unload. He quickly unpacked his stuff. He was eager to get situated. On a personal level he hated the idea of living out of a bag, he liked to get situated, he was very detailed oriented and each item that he had, hd a purpose and a place in his quarters.
Speaking of his quarters they appeared to be a little big, especially for a low raking officer. These quarters were bigger than his quarters on the DFS Falco. Dom had no doubt this was his sister doing. She was probably trying to make him feel important. In reality, Dom hated the oversized quarters. So much wasted space.
Dom sat down on the sofa in his large room. The room felt a little a off, a little bare for a room its size. It was a nice room, just a lot of wasted space. His judgment might have been impaired, because back at his parents residents, there house was large, but it was filled with knick knacks, colorful pictures and art work. It had a warm feeling.
This room was anything but warm or charming. It was a very generic looking room, a little depressing to be honest. The only color in the room was the three wool blanket with bright colors that Dom brought with him that went on the edge of his bed and on the corners of the sofa.
The room still looked a little generic for his liking, especially for a room its size. Dom sat in his room and after a few moments he realized that he was focusing to hard on the things that really did not matter. Dom was only going to be on the DFS Essex for a short time.
Dom needed a distraction from the plainness of the room. "Computer play me some classic latino music" called out Dom. No music played instead Dom heard "please specify time period and artist" asked the computer of the DFS Essex.
"Chantaje by Maluma and Shakira a 21st century pop culture song" said Dom. It took the computer a moment to play the song. But in typical fashion the music was played at a low volume. This was unacceptable to Dom. "Computer turn up the volume by 30 percent" ordered Dom. The volume increased and Dom felt himself move to the groove of the song.
He was sofa dancing but only for a moment. He quickly got up and started to dance around the room. Granted he was dancing alone but that was okay, Dom was not really a man that liked to open up to outsiders or people he had no personal connections too. The song was starting to end and Dom spoke out "Computer pick more songs of 21st century latino style music"
The computer began to create a random shuffle of songs. Next up was Enrique Iglesias and his song "Bailando". It had a really good beat. Dom was enjoying the moment and dancing all alone. Most of the time Dom was alone on his own personal time. And Dom liked to unwind and relax by dancing and unwinding on his own. He was not big on after hours socializing.
The computer kept playing song after song after song. Dom was totally in the grove. He loved the musical choices of the computer. After about 20 minutes felt a little bit of sweat pour down his cheeks. His heart rate was up and he was getting a good workout. Dom knew he should probably take a break but he was really feeling the grove of the beat when he heard the door bell chime.
"Computer pause music" Called out Dom. As he turned his focus to the door. He walked over to the door and it automatically opened. When the doors opened he noticed his sister was standing outside of the door.
"may I come in" asked Mable.
"please" said Dom as he moved to the side to allow his older sister to walk in. She made her way over to the sofa.
"I see you brought a few comforts of home with you" said Mable as she grabbed one of the blankets. It was the blanket she bought him when they were kids. Dom use to always complain about how cold he was in Mexico. So on his birthday Mable bought him a wool blanket, but so did his parents and his little brother Johnny.
Mable loved to see that he still used them. She just took a seat on the sofa and grabbed one of his blankets and wrapped herself in it.
"I am surprised you still have this" pointed out Mable.
"it hold sentimental value, plus my big sister gave it to me" suggested Dom with a wink. Family was very important to him.
"Are you settled in" asked Mable as she was now making small talk.
"I am well, are you hear to brief me again" asked Dom. He wondered if her visit was a social call.
"no, I wanted to check in with you, off the record, I wanted to see my baby brother" teased Mable.
"Your only three years older than me" suggested Dom.
"true, but I do have the right to ask if you are settling in" pointed out Mable. She had heard of Dom's reputation of being by the book and not being very socialable. She was slightly concerned that he did not open up to others. She wondered how much impact loosing Sarah had on him. She also knew that Dom was very focused on being a good officer, she knew he wanted his own command.
"settling in" simply replied Dom at first. He began to think what those two words really meant. Dom started to think, why would his sister ask him that? Did she want him to go out and socialize in the local drinking hubs on the DFS Essex, if so, he was not really interested. Dom had learned how to be keep his separation.
"Yes" simply said Mable as she could tell that her brother was lost in thought.
"I have unpacked but I doubt I will settle in onboard my sisters ship" suggested Dom.
"I heard you have a hard time settling in on any ship" flat out said Mable. Time subtly was over. Time to get to the root of the issue, the question she wanted to ask him, since she picked him up at their parents home.
"direct and to the point, I can respect that sister" said Dom with a slightly annoyed tone in his voice. He knew that Mable was not going to let this go and he had a personal connection to her, so why not tell her, how he was feeling.
Mable slightly chuckled.
"I am focused, what more can the DFS ask of me" asked Dom as he went on, he took a moment to gather his thoughts as he began to spoke, "I am focused on getting my own command, I do not have time to buckle down and establish long term relationship's with my fellow shipmates, look at your sister, your three years older than me and already an XO, I want to follow your example" said Dom.
"I did not get here by just strictly focusing on my career, I created a network of of professional contacts and socializing with the political brass and upper echelons of the DFS Command.
"were going about it in two different ways, didn't your captain said that someone in the senate has noticed me, and you can not tell me this assignment will not put me on a fast track ticket to my own command" suggested Dom.
"its a gamble, you have to do it your way, don't you" teased Mable in a tone that sounded like she did not agree with him and judging his decision. Mable wondered how much Sarah hurt him and how much he hurt himself with ending things with her. Dom did not have to say anything, she noticed it back at there parents residency. It had been seven years since Dom had open up to someone outside of his family. It had been seven years since Dom last saw Sarah in person.
And now she was married and having a child. Mable knew it must be hurting him, even if he refused to admit to himself or to her. But she was a little nervous about bringing up the topic of Sarah to him. She felt like she should but she did not want him to shut her out.
"You have to admit, it's easier to say goodbye to fellow shipmates, when you are distant with them, it's not personal to me, its business" said Dom in a serious tone.
"almost a robotic answer" teased Mable.
"not the first time you have accused me of being that way" suggested Dom.
"Yes your freshman year of high school, when you ran for student treasure" said Mable in response. It was clear that Dom was trying to hard to prove his worth even as a freshman. Dom was always by the book, the best thing that ever happened to him was Sarah, and he let her go. That was foolish, in the opinion of Mable.
"seems like another life time" teased Dom.
"Perhaps but those bad habits slipped back into your life" pointed out Mable.
"a lot of people put the careers first, your married and happy, and for you family is important, more than your career" suggested Dom as he went on to say "and I agree with you to a point, family is just as important to me as well, every chance I get, I try to see all of you" suggested Dom. He hoped that would be a good enough answer for his sister.
My husband is important to me, he is now my family, and someday down the road we will start our own family but our parents have accepted him and his parents have accepted me. But with you, it seems like the DFS command is your family and getting your own command is your only way of knowing if you are accepted as a member of its family" suggested Mable.
"to a point your right, I have placed my career first, I guess you can say the DFS is my family, they have been loyal to me and I have to them. My job is to defend the federation and I am going to do that" said Dom, as he sounded all patriotic. Dom honestly felt it was his duty to serve in the DFS and to help protect the citizens of the Federation.
"I mean this with love, you can serve and find happiness" said Mable with a serious tone on her face.
Dom looked at her. He hesitated for a moment. "I am happy, I am content" suggested Dom.
"I believe your content, but happiness, I have to question" said Mable.
Dom was annoyed with her response. "that's your opinion, can we change the topic" asked Dom. He was really annoyed with the direction of the conversation. In his mind, he felt they should be trying to catch up, not talking about his happiness. Granted family talk about the hard topics, it can not always be superficial conversations.
"typically I would, but there is something you need to know" suggested Mable. She was hesitant on telling him. But she felt like he had a right to know. She was not sure how Dom was going to react to the news.
"say what's on your mind" flat out said Dom, with an annoyed tone. He wondered what she was keeping from him. Dom did not like the fact that Mable was keeping things from him.
"Senator Gillman is aboard the Essex" flat out said Mable.
Dom tried to hold his emotions as he said "Understood" said Dom in a robotic tone. It was clear to the both of them that he was locking down on his feelings with this news.
"That's all you have to say" asked Mable. She wanted Dom to open up.
"there is not much to say, I have no doubt the Senator is here on official business, thank you for the information" said Dom as he tried to quickly find a away to change the topic.
"That's one way to look at it, aren't you curious on how she is doing or to see her" asked Mable.
"No" said Dom. His response was a lie, of course he wanted to see her, but she was a part of his past. It was better to leave her in his past. They both made choices and placed their careers first.
Mable knew he was lying but it was clear he was closing down and she did not want to press him to hard, she wanted to spend time with her brother before he went onto his next assignment. "Okay, I just wanted to let you know" said Mable as the scene starts to fade out.

Dom's intro (Part 3)
DFS Essex Personal Quarters 08/19/4566
Dom had managed to hide out in his temporary quarters aboard the Essex, he managed for the most part to avoid Sarah, he managed to get Mable to get off of the topic of Sarah and focus more on catching up. Dom was more interested in how Mable was doing. He was happy that she recently got married. His only regret was missing her wedding. His old assignment on the DFS Falco was on a sensative mission, an he was not able to get back in time for the wedding. Dom felt guilty, but Mable understood. He was military man, just like her.
Mable filled him in about the wedding, about her new husband. Sadly he was serving on another ship at the moment. He was transfering to the DFS Essex but it was still a few months out. Dom could tell that his sister seemed happy, a little lonely. After all her husband was on another ship. But they had a good visit.
When Mable was not visiting Dom, he was taking advantage of the time and bringing himself up to specs on the DFS Lavie and of her crew and of his new duties the Chief of Flight Operations. For a test pilot program, Dom felt the felt pressure to do a good job. This was a fast track promotion opportunity for him.
Dom needed chances like this, despite what his sister told him, he did not want to suck up to the brass or kiss ass with the delegates and politicians of the Federation. Recent history shows how currupt a politician and delegate can become. Dom wanted to focus on protecting the federation not become part of its problem. Dom was now packing up his stuff, he heard the Captain call his name over the intercom. He wished the Captain would have not done that. Dom was concerned that Sarah might have head that he was on board. He tried to reassure himself that Martinez was a common last name, maybe she will not put two and two together. He was not sure but he was not really in a mood to see her.
Dom had a lot going on and he needed to get to the hanger bay of the Essex, he was personally going to fly over one of the fighters. His fighter crew was also coming along. Dom had yet to meet them. He was trying to bottle himself up in his work, he knew there would be plenty of time to meet his crew. He did read their service files, they were all capable fighter pilots, what more can you ask for, thought Dom.
Dom had spent of his time in his temporary quarters, so he made sure to grab a data pad with a map in it. The DFS Essex had a different layout that his old ship the DFS Falco. Dom finished packing up his duffle bag and grabbed the pad and headed out the door. He made quick time door the corridors of the Essex.
Dom was on a mission. He wanted to get to the cockpit of the fighter he was going to be flying. Dom wanted off the Essex as soon as possible and board the DFS Lavie as soon as possible. Dom wanted to make a first good impression on Captain Layton and Major Thorton. He knew the Lavie was under going repairs and that the Captain was eager to get the Lavie back in space, and his new fighter contingent would help the Lavie in her future missions.
Dom followed the data pad and trie to avoid the sea of people that were down the corridors. Dom managed to make it to the shuttle bay, and Dom walked into the bay and was greated by the CFO of the DFS Essex. "Damn Lieutenant, your early" teased the CFO.
"Yes sir, I want to begin preflight checks, permission to board my fighter" asked Dom.
"negative sir, your needed in the war room" said the CFO as he pointed in the direction of the war room.
"Lieutenant leave your bag with me, I will make sure it gets aboard the Lavie" ordered the CFO.
Dom handed the CFO his duffle bag. He then looked at the war room. He made his way to the war room, hoping not to run into Sarah. He hoped it was Mable waiting for him inside the war room.
DFS Essex War Room 08/19/4566
Dom made his way into the war room and to his surprise, there was only two personal in the room. One was the ship's captain and the other was an unknown man to Dom.
Dom was not sure what to make of the situation. He approached both men. He noticed the Captain started to walk to him. "Lieutenant Martinez, I want you to meet Senator Candor of Andoria" said the Captain.
"nice to meet you sir" simply said Dom. His response was short and to the point.
"its nice to place a face to a name" said Senator Candor.
Dom was not sure how to respond to that statement. "yes sir" simply replied Dom.
"I chose you for this assignment, personally, I believe if anyone can make this test pilot program work it will be you" said Senator Candor.
"I'm honored sir" said Dom, as he felt him sucking up a little to the senator. He hated this feeling. But his sister maybe onto something. But he prefer to do it his way, no sucking up, no politics.
"These next six months are crucial, I know you will make me proud, Lieutenant" said Senator Candor.
"Yes sir" said Dom.
Senator Candor, liked the fact that Dom was a man of few words. He allowed his actions to speak for him. He was a promising and upcoming DFS officer and sadly at this point, he was expendable.
"I know you need to depart, I wanted to meet you before you left the Essex, your not an easy man to get a hold of" suggested Senator Candor. He was surprised that he did not cross paths over the past few days.
"I'm sorry about that sir, I was deep in the manuels and technical spects of my next assigment, I was not notified you wanted to see me sir, for that I appologize sir" said Dom in a apologetic voice.
"It's understandale, I will let you get on with your preflight checks" said Senator Candor.
"Dismissed Lieutenant" said the Captain.
Dom left the area as quickly as he could. He walked over to his fighter and began preflight check lists. The scene starts to fade.

DFS Lavie Main Shuttle Bay August 19, 4566 In the evening hours.
Aidan watched the Essex come in on sensors and then later on the viewscreen. "Lieutenant you have the con," Aidan said once they were verified. HE took the turbolift to the shuttlebay and watched the procession of cargo and personnel come in.
Dom's fighter had landed in the main staging area of the shuttle bay system. Dom took a good long look around. The ship felt compact, mainly because he spent the last few years on bigger carriers and now he was serving on a small overpowered destroyer. The 'Lavie' really had a starfleet meets military aesthetic to it. It felt bigger than it was, but still felt very cramp to him.
The bay was swarming with activity. It was clear to Dom that the ship was being resupplied and repaired all in one. A lot of commotion and pretty soon, Dom knew it would be his responsibility to manage all of this commotion in the main bay. Well all three bays were going to be his responsibility. Dom took a good look around and already in his mind was taking mental note.
There was a lot of things that needed improvement. Dom was very detailed oriented and hated unorganized clutter and chaos. Things were getting done, but Dom felt things could be improved with a little proper motivation from a good department head. Everyone appeared to be going through the motions. It was clear that the team was pulling long shifts and taking shortcuts. Dom was never a fan of taking any short cuts. Lives depended on there diligent to duty and there dedication to there jobs. Dom would remind his new team of this, even if they did not want it. They were professionals and they would show that under his care.
Dom was eager to prove himself, but he would like to get acquainted with the ship before he dived in. He knew that may not be possible and that he might have to just jump in feet first and hope for the best! Dom looked around for a moment and saw a small group of personal checking in with the man that appeared to be the Executive Officer. He matched the picture from the data pad. Dom made his way up the line and snapped to the position of attention, when he called out. "Good evening Major Thorton, Lieutenant Junior Grade Domingo Ramon Martinez requesting permission to board, sir". Dom waited for Major Thorton to respond. He wanted to make a first good impression. Granted he was in a flight suit and not a standard uniform, but it was decent looking enough.
"Did you forget how to salute after that long flight?" Aidan said in a semi joking manner.
Dom was surprised to see the executive officer in the bay and not the assigned duty officer. This sort of told him, maybe he would not get time to settle in. Dom knew from some of the reports that he read, that Captain Layton wanted to get the 'Lavie' out of dock as soon as possible. Dom was annoyed at himself, he was so distracted with the comotion at the bay he forgot to salute. Dom quickly raised his hand and saluted the man. "sorry about that sir" simply replied Dom.

Dom was a little tired, but he was eager to work. He was already picturing in his mind what needed to be improved on in this maintenance bay, he wondered how the other two bays were operating. Granted this was the main bay, perhaps the chaos was limited to this bay, Dom had a sneaky feeling the other two bay were also in disarray. Dom needed to focus on this moment though, it was already bad enough he forgot to salute the Executive Officer, now he needed to wait for the Major to return his salute.
"I'm not a huge stickler for it, but first impressions, right?" Aidan grinned slightly, as he held out an oversized hand after returning the salute.
"Yes sir, permission to come aboard" again asked Dom. Dom's tone was flat, he wanted to portray a voice of calm and try to show his new Executive Officer that he could be calm and collect even in embarrassing moments like this, or even in stressful environments. Dom wanted to prove his worth to the ship and crew and to the command staff.
"Permission granted. Not much going on at the moment. You'll want to get settled and check on your pilots I assume. Is there anything I can do for you at the moment? I know it's normal to do this with the quartermaster but I like to keep my hands on the till and meet my new people."
"Understandable sir, I would like to settle first before diving right in, I believe I have a date with the sickbay" said Dom in a monotone tone. He did have emotions but at the moment, he was embarrassed and wanted this moment to pass. He was not sure if Major Thorton was going to escort him to sickbay or continue to meet some of the junior crew. There was only a couple off officers and enlisted crew behind him. The fighters were the last thing to enter the bay from the DFS Essex.
"Okay Lieutenant. Carry on. I believe Sarissa is on duty in Medical right now."
"Yes sir, I'm heading to sickbay now" said Dom as he reached up to salute the man goodbye. He waited for Major Thorton to return the salute.
"Oh and we will have the new shuttle bay finished hopefully soon and it won't always be this crowded." Aidan said, returning the salute.
"I will see that the new bays are online as soon as doc gives me the all clear for active duty" suggested Dom as he started to walk away. He wanted to get out of this embarrassing moment. Next time he meet the Executive Officer it would be under better footing and his dignity.
Aidan turned away, concentrating on other tasks now.
DFS Lavie Medical Bay Facilities August 19, 4566 In the evening hours.
Dom left the bay with his duffle bag in one hand and a pad in the other. He made his way down the corridors of the Lavie. Dom felt very confined, he wondered what the DFS was thinking when they decided to create a hybrid test pilot program on a destroyer?
What was command thinking?
It was really not his place to question the will of the DFS Command structure, it was his duty to carry out there orders, no matter how far fetched they seemed at times. Dom continued to go down a few corridors and in the turbolift to the right floor where the medical bay was. The Medical Bay appeared to be a standard layout, it was smaller than a bay on a the carriers that he had been serving on. Everything was smaller. Dom needed to get use to the fact that the Lavie was smaller and not a carrier and this assignment could get his name circulating for a command opportunity down the road. Dom walked in and noticed a beauty, a gem that stood out in the paleness of the room.
Dom thought to himself, the service file picture of Sarissa does not due to her justice.
"Lieutenant Junior Grade Domingo Ramon Martinez reporting in to sickbay" said Dom as he decided to salute her. She was really pretty and he was trying to show a sign of respect and trying to stick to protocol.
Dom was not sure what Sarissa wanted him to do first, so he stood there trying not to over stare at her sure beauty. She was by far the prettiest Vulcan that he ever laid eyes on. Dom knew from her file she was married, he thought to himself her husband is one lucky Vulcan!
Sarrisa saw the young pilot walk in. She was concentrating on her files and the updating of the same. "Sit on the bio bed to your left, I will be there momentarily. Coming to a stopping point in her work, she retrieved the nearby scanner and tricorder after loading his medical file on her VX for temporary viewing. "I am Sarissa, welcome to the 'Lavie', Lieutenant. Any complaints, ailments, chronic conditions not in your file I should be aware of?" She asked as she waved the scanner in a methodical fashion over the man.
Dom hoped up on the bio bed. "No" simply said Dom. He was going to call her doc, but he decided it would probably be best if he avoided humanoid terms like the knick name of 'Doc'.
She put down the scanner. Taking her hands she poked and prodded in practiced manner. "No soreness in the morning, trouble sleeping?" She moved from his chest to her midsection. Finally down to his legs where she tested his reflexes.
Dom looked around the room as Sarissa began her examination. He did not want it to be obvious that he had checked her out. Even though he did check her out, he would never react on his feelings of lust, in some ways like a Vulcan, he too could resist his temptations for lustful thoughts. Well at least in the presence of strangers. He tried to talk his way around the question. Overall he was in good health, but he felt if he mentioned his legs were a little sore from the 8 hour patrol, Sarissa may ground him from active duty. The Fighter cockpits were not very comfortable. But pilots needed to be physically fit to endure the prolong exposure of sitting in awkward and unusual positions.

But pilots needed to be physically fit to endure the prolong exposure of sitting in awkward and unusual positions..
"depends on the night Doctor, I am a pilot and now the CFO, we have our good days and our bad days, but overall I am doing well" suggested Dom, as he wondered how intense of a background check she was going to do. He was a capable pilot and for the past two years he was a good ACFO. He was ready to prove himself to the crew of the 'Lavie'. And he was ready to prove himself to the DFS.
Sarissa being a touch telepath, found it disrupting but necessary to do the physical exam. She had mental blocks in place and therefore didn't notice or care that the young Lieutenant had an attraction. Grabbing a nearby hypospray, she moved in closer to his arm and rolled up one of his sleeves. "I need a small blood sample for the records.
Dom relaxed his arm as she took her sample. He focused straight ahead. She was a little to close for the liking of Dom. He normally kept a good distance between people as a general rule. He was not suffering from any type of germ phobia, he just was not into public displays of affection or being touched in general. Dom knew she was doing her job, and she was very professional. Unlike him. He had allowed his thoughts to be slightly lustful. He would work on resisting his thoughts. He was not Vulcan and he did not have years of trained discipline like she did.
"That will be all Lieutenant. I have everything needed to update your records. Is there anything else you require?" Sarissa asked.
Dom thought about the first time he sat on a bio bed. It was the DFS Falco his first command and an Andorian Doctor with a slight aggressive attitude did the physically. It was not a great experience. Dom felt more relaxed around Sarissa, despite the fact she was in his personal space. He really appreciated the level of professionalism that the Vulcan society had in relations to other races. The first doctor was not as professional as Sarissa was, he was grateful for that. "No Doctor, I would like to settle in now" suggested Dom as he jumped off the bio bed, he started to slowly walk towards the direction of the exist. "Thanks again Doctor" said Dom as he continued to walk towards the exit, hoping Sarissa would not stop him.

((runabout Congo en. route to D.F.S. Lavie-A)) Dr. Aldana had been traveling, for about two weeks on the DFS Essex. As per customary s/he traveled with two companions. These were hir non-terran domestic canines; a male who was hir service animal, and female who was a sort of new security officer for the Lavie. Now, it seemed s/he couldn’t believe it. They were seemingly on the final leg of their journey. They had been traveling with a being who was now the pilot – a non-com looking forward to being assigned to flight control on the D.F.S. Lavie – was a hermat, and Aldana had spent part of hir time aboard the Essex connecting and getting to know each other due to their commonalities. Now the pilot was making an announcement that they would be arriving at their destination shortly. As the senior officer on the ship Dr. Aldana donned a uniform with modifications – approved by Starfleet – to it that better suited hir species’ needs. Aldana took the forward most seat next to the pilot, and watched out the viewport as the vehicle did a grand-tour-style flyby of the Lavie. “That’s her?” Aldana asked. The pilot nodded. “Woww…” S/he trailed off as s/he thought to hirself, *bit excessive maybe?* “Open a channel.” -=/\=-This is D F S 0 2 3 4 8 Alpha, we have you on our screen now. Please identify.-=/\=- “Roger, DFS Lavie, this is shuttle Congo commencing with crew replacements and transfers, requesting permission to land.” -=/\=-Roger shuttle Congo we have you cleared for shuttle bay four. ((D.F.S. Lavie INT. Shuttlebay III))
Aidan continued the moving of cargo and helping out with in-processing as needed. He wanted to get the Lavie out of orbit and onto juicy FSF targets to even the score. This was the third time the FSF had attacked and twice they attacked his ship personally. It was getting on his nerves and payback was something he would savor and hate at the same time. Meanwhile, another shuttle came in while he was deep in his PADD. Business as usual went on around him as cargo and personnel began to off load; if he had to pay attention to everything, none of his own work would be done. Doctor Aldana stepped off the transport shuttle onto the grav plating of Lavie. Hir padded feet flexed as the coolness of the metal traveled up hir bare toes. S/he carried a pack on hir back with a few essentials, including a PADD with hir orders. The pack was gunmetal-grey with medical teal highlights. Attached to the strap over hir shoulder was a commbadge. Other than these items Aldana sported only hir freshly groomed, brilliant black and white striped, fluffy furcoat. Trailing behind hir obediently were a pair of non-terran domestic canines. Aidan looked up at the procession coming towards him. Mentally bracing himself for the oddness of the small group, he tried to take the view in stride as his many years in Marine duty had certainly conjured up strange combinations before. Keeping an open mind, he checked the roster of incoming personnel as they were arriving in front of him. Aldana stepped up to the commander, and retrieving hir PADD, handed it to the Terran. “Chief Medical Officer, Aldana and Search and Rescue Specialist, Lunna reporting as ordered sir. Lunna fell in step behind Aldana, standing rigid and with ears back slightly. ~Identify. Man. Safe?~ She saw the male before them wore green, she was not familiar with this color with regard to Starfleet uniforms. She waited for clearance. “Welcome aboard. I’m Major Aidan Thornton, the XO of the ship. Are these your service animals?” He asked. Aldana tilted hir head toward the male canid with what were considered panda markings for his breed. “He is, she,” s/he reached down to just behind hir left calf and skritched Lunna between the ears, “is the SaR specialist and new security officer.” Sombra came forward and sniffed the man’s knee. Despite being on duty, he allowed his tail to wag just a fuzz at the scent of two other canids. ~Lunna, identify beta-Alpha, protect. Level 5. Stand down.~ Lunna relaxed a bit. Her black and tan sable coat smoothing out again. Aidan knelt down and held his hand out and palm up under the canine’s head to let them greet him. Once accepted he instinctively scratched the one on the left behind the ear. “We always talked about having a K9 unit aboard, might be time to revisit that.” Amiri heffed a sigh, “well that’s nearly taken care of…” s/he trailed off feeling like there was something more, but it escaped hir at the moment. “Thank you sir.” “Sarissa is on duty in the Medical bay. Let me know if you need anything.” Aidan turned and went back to his PADD.

DFS Lavie, Destroyer type Carrier Personal Quarters: CFO Martinez August 19, 4566, in the evening
Dom made his way out of the medical facilities aboard the 'Lavie', his next stop was to get assigned quarters. It did not take him long to meet up with the Quartermaster and to get new assigned quarters. Dom made his way into his new quarters, this was more to his liking. The room was small but efficient. As he walked in he noticed the almost "L" like shape of the room.
Dom quickly put his duffle bag inside the quarters and stepped into the room allowing the doors to close behind him. Dom took a good look around and thought to himself, this room will do, home sweet home.
The room had a unique entrance system. He noticed a small wall in front him that covered most of the room, the wall was about 4 feet from him and off to the right was a small hallway with a small portal of window. And a another small door, Dom assumed it was the closet. Dom walked deeper in to the room and noticed the room was split up into three sections. The middle section was the largest section it housed the bed, desk, sofa and all of the storage areas. The room was lacking a table, but Dom could eat at his desk if he needed too.
Dom noticed when he first walked into the middle section, you could see the medium size window portal from the ship. It was the centerpiece of the quarters. The window was an oval ship that looked directly out in space. Dom could tell by looking at the window he was on the port side of the ship. The room itself was not very big, but it was big enough to suit his needs.
Dom noticed the bed was about the size of a full size mattress, a full size mattress for Dom would be a little to big, and having a bigger bed could come in handy, especially if he had extra guests over he could use the space for people to sit down. Dom hated he ugly blue blanket that was on the bed. He picked up his duffle bag and opened it up and dug into the bag and grabbed out all three blankets that his family had given him.
He tossed them onto the couch and grabbed the generic soft pillow and tossed them onto the couch and reached down to grab the blue blanket and ripped it off the bed. That blanket had to go, thought Dom as he smiled as he pulled it off. He rolled up the blanket and tossed it on the computer chair, thinking to himself, 'thank god, I brought my own blankets'.
Dom walked over to the sofa and grabbed the large blanket and placed it the bed and remade his bed. The room seemed to be dark, and all of a sudden a bright explosion of color pierced through the room. His blanket was bright and really made the room pop, but not in a good way. He needed more bright colors and other items to offset the room to make it feel more like home and not like a military bunk quarters.
Dom walked over to the last door in the room it was the farthest door as you entered the room. He opened the door and noticed it was small but efficient bathroom with all of the basics, like a sink, toilet, a real shower, a couple of shelves. It was compact but it was a very efficient design. Dom was very impressed with the room.
He was glad that he fought the Quartermaster on this room assignment. The Quartermaster wanted to give him a room about twice the size of the room he is occupying right now. In a lot of ways this room still felt very big to him. Dom grew up in a large family. 7 siblings, plus him and his parents made a total of 10 people living in one house back on Earth.
Dom was very happy with the room layout he chose. He started to unpack his stuff, which he did not have a lot.
Dom chuckled when he noticed that he had over nine storage shelves in the main part of the room. At this current moment he did not need nine shelves plus he had a rack over the top of his bed that needed to be filled with some items. Dom knew he would need to get some more items. But he wanted things that reminded him of home, so next time the DFS Lavie or Dom make it home he would grab a few small items.
For a living quarters situation, these were the biggest quarters that Dom had moved into while serving in the DFS.
Dom knew there was not much more he could work on in his living quarters and he was not yet tired and the idea of going down to the bar area, did not seem that appealing, Dom decided he would go work out for a bit in the gym. He had to keep in shape. This would be the first time today that Dom would have a chance to work out in the gym. Dom changed out of his flight suit, and walked over to the replicator, he needed appropriate attire for the DFS Lavie. He called out "Computer I need a basic 'Lavie' gym gear clothing, replicated in large size"
The computer's replicator fabricated the clothing, and Dom grabbed them. A t-shirt, gym shorts, gym sweat pants, a towel and a pair of socks sat in the replicator. Dom grabbed the clothes and placed them on the bed. He grabbed the t-shirt first so he could put it on.
The t-shirt was a generic looking a dull gray with a silhouette of the 'Lavie' and said "DFS Lavie" under the silhouette. The shorts where a darker gray color and Dom wasted little time changing over. Dom quickly placed the shirt on, it was not a cotton blend it felt more like a polyester blend. The shorts were more less a cotton/polyester blend while the socks and sweats were completely cotton along with the towel.
Dom did not waste anytime getting ready. He placed his flight suit in the closet and grabbed his towel and draped it over his shoulders and walked out of his room. His next stop was getting to the gym.
